About This File

**This removes the nag screen that informs you if a rom doesn't work correctly, or if at all, if you use this no nag, then please do NOT go to the mame support site with issues with games, please only use if you understand that there will be no help from anyone at mamedev as you are using a modified version of mame.

Contents: mame.exe - Normal Mame with Nags removed. (Note mame no longer carries the 64 in its exe name changed by Devs in 0.229)

This version also allows the games Akai Katana and Dodonpachi Saidaioujou  to be played.

It's advisable to download the full mame official pack and install it, then just overwrite the exe with the replacement, this covers any changes the mame devs may have made to the support files.

After you have done this, make sure you copy the folders artwork, ctrlr, cheat, hlsl, ini, folders and the ini files from the root of your original mame folder, and move/copy them to the new install.

If you are using your own installed/setup of mame then make sure you also set in the mame.ini  'Skip_gameinfo  1'

If you got Launchbox to setup mame for you when asked, you only need to replace the exe and play.

As some are not sure about  False Positives, and report a virus was detected, As goes for all versions i upload, they are all ran through virustotal before i upload, and if by any chance something did end up with an issue it would be noticed very quickly after upload and would be removed/restricted.

0.285 - VirusTotal - File - 4bcfb12b87f63afa1f0241915d7e812ecbf14e83faa6ed62af1b49582d70930d

All NEW versions of the No-Nag will be posted in this download thread only, if you wish to get the new releases every month, either follow myself or the thread, As the download section will not show any new releases.

Released

From /r/mame

MAME 0.286

It’s time for MAME 0.286, bringing you more adventures in emulation. This month, we’ve added support for SDL3, which will be used by default when building on macOS (the default is still SDL2 on other UNIX-like platforms). You can choose SDL2 or SDL3 by adding OSD=sdl or OSD=sdl3 to your build options, respectively. There may be some teething issues, so if you build against SDL3 and things break, let us know.

In arcade emulation, we’ve added a rare early version of Mario Bros. (which may have served as the basis for the Apple II port), the original Tecmo release of Back Fire, and the elusive Monkichicchi no Fuwafuwa Puzzle. Outside arcades, dozens of systems have seen updates over the past few weeks, including the ZX Spectrum and its descendants, the Apple II family and clones, the Epson QX-10, the Canon X-07, and the Sharp MZ-80B. There are also some nice software list updates, including the latest prototype cartridge dumps and plenty of homebrew software.

If you want to read about everything that changed this month, check out the whatsnew.txt file. As always, the source code and 64-bit Windows binary packages are available from mamedev.org download page.

Thanks again! I really appreciate your work.

I have another small request: would it be possible to include the DAT files as well?

After each MAME update, I find myself checking this page more than a hundred times to see if the new DATs are available:

It would be fantastic if, once MAME is updated, we could immediately use RomVault or any other tool to verify our sets, what’s complete and what’s still missing.

Thanks again for all your efforts!

Sorry, but as this is a modified mame, the dat set would be incomplete as there are 2 games that are re added by me, so no unfortunately i cant add the dats, and i no longer use dats.

As for normal dats just search 'pleasuredome git' in your fave search engine, you will find them on there fairly easily, or you could create the dats with clrmamepro and the mame.exe (this last one does have some draw backs though)

Followed every instruction in these comments to the letter, still getting nagged when I launch a game. Using MAME 279, really not sure why it isn't working.

You to be a bit a little more descriptive on what is showing up on your screen, or a screenshot, this will help narrow down somethings. (are you running mame as a standalone emulator, or are you using the Launchbox installation, as these require two different approaches.) Some times people mistake what this actually does and removes, we will try to help you as much as we can, but as you are the only one reporting an error, it must be a simple error, that can probably be remedied easily.

Most times just replacing the exe file in you mame setup will result in it working, if you run a standalone version that you installed manually (not using Launchbox's install option) you need to edit the mame.ini and just make sure  'Skip_gameinfo  1' is set. Thats all there is to it, you will know if its working as when you run a game that has a yellow/red warning will show a Warning Information option in the Tab menu when you are in the game.

Forum UI doesn't really reflect it but if you push Download File there are several versions you then have to pick which one to download. Just grab the one you're searching for.

Awesome, thanks for the help! ( see it wasn't that hard to just help out @GodElite) I never went that far because I just assumed that would have been just the 0.281 version

Just discovered this version today and it is very good thank you.

Can you add support for Clockwork Aquario? Apparently it is supported in some other versions of mame but I prefer your no nag version.

Unfortunately not, as far as i know it was never released in the arcades due to it being canceled before completion, and as such has never been on mame. Im sure i read that there was a "possible leak" of the roms, but other than that, i think your best bet is either

the PS4 or Switch version of the game. If there is  a version that was added to a version of "mame" was probably a bit of a Frankenstein build of it.

I try to keep the no nag clean as possible, so adding something like a game into mame that wasn't there before is not something i would want to do..

Sorry..

It seems like it only requires changes to segas18.cpp https://git.redump.net/hbmame/diff/src/hbmame/drivers/segas18.cpp?id=723738d56e87a9c448e492dec4baf3bba0540338

Again as i said, the game was incomplete, and was never added to mame, so i will not be adding it to the nonag. Just add the game to your LB and just set the emu to hbmame for that one game.

I did in the past, but there just isn't a demand for it. There was someone else posting it a few months back. But its not something i will go back to doing, as i have no use for it.

I am sure I seen it once, but now nobody seems to be doing it.

Thanks again 👍

There's no reason to do that in Arcade. If you go to the Advanced menu and change Seconds to Run to 1 that should enable it.

I used to just download the exe, pop it in the mame folder and the nagging stopped. This isn't the case anymore- the red warning screen still persists. Is there another step required now? (Have also set Skip_gameinfo to 1 in the ini)

Give an example of a game it does this on, then others can test it.

Thanks for the reply. Sorry- I assumed the nag was just blanket removed for all games not still there for some (in which case, might I suggest calling this “some-nag mame” ;) ). Anyway, the games I’m seeing this on are: Teraburst and ThrillDrive.

Both those game are classed by MAME as Not Working, hence the nag screen showing.

I am not sure, but I thought No-nag just removed the working games info.

My xml only has working games on it for the reason I actually want them to load when I play them.

Whats annoying for me is nag screens telling you info you don't need to know. The game NOT working isn't one of them IMO.

Okay, that’s fair enough. I just thought/hoped this build was one for those of us who understand if a game doesn’t work fully we shouldn’t nag the MAME folks saying it’s buggy. For my money, Teraburst is now running beautifully (having said that I never played it in the arcade so can’t compare it to anything) and Thrill Drive, provided you have the right version, is as fun and playable as I recall. Neither (by my standards at least) needs flagging as not working :/

When I say not working I mean MAME on the emulator designates it as a non working game (not good enough to go into their 14,000+ games/clones working games category)

It might run, but is obviously not good enough ... YET.

As I say, I only use a custom xml that only has working game son it, so I never see these games till they drop onto their working games list, so that's probably why I never notice MAME nonag emulator flagging them up all the time.

Okay thanks. Just a shame MAME has such exacting standards for working versus non-working games. I’ve played Teraburst start to finish without any  issues and even Video Games Esoterica has been raving about how well it runs. I’m not sure what else needs to happen for it to be classed as working. I guess I just have to keep waiting for now :)

I tested and the no nag works as it should with this game, and shows no warning to me at all. Do you have multiple versions of mame and you are adding the no nag to incorrect mame. Other than an incorrect folder the only other thing is the skip gameinfo flag.

I do have multiple MAMEs but made sure to download only the latest no nag for the latest MAME. I haven’t had chance to check yet but I’m hoping the earlier suggestion that the ini file could be at fault might be it. Due to wanting to keep my various controllers working without much faff I tend to copy the mame.ini from my previous MAME so maybe a file diff will reveal the problem.

Hi guys. Just wanted to know, when you use the Mame No-Nag build, does it get rid of the "Type OK or move the joystick left or right" screen that pops up even for working games?

That was removed from mame a long long time ago, you must be running a very old version.
