About This File

LIGHTS OUT! BEZELS UPDATED TO THE NEWEST MAME CODE

Mr. RetroLust created a series of bezels which is a masterpiece :

Yet as he uses a rather old version of MAME, some of those bezels are not compatible with the latest releases which use a redesigned artwork system (MAME 0.226 onwards).

As I intend to continue to enjoy his creations in optimal conditions, I have undertaken to update all the lay files and to correct recent incompatibilities.

The original project uses a reflection and scratch layer to add a realistic effect which defines its style.

You will find here the complete arcade 4K widescreen collection updated to the most recent lay code and expanded in various ways.

Mainly based on the version 5.9 of its collection :

I’ve updated/edited all the lay files (but one*).

Converted and integrated some of his non-MAME specific arworks**.

Renamed files in sync with latest MAME release (0.267 at the time of this writing).

Merged some archives to avoid any conflict with the classic artworks of Mr. Do and progetto-SNAPS.

Replaced most of the screen overlays based on pics with lay-coded ones according to the latest MAME sources (ex : Circus).

Corrected some MAME artwork display known bugs (ex : Dead Eye).

Added a toggleable gear shift for racing games when possible (ex : Pole Position).

Added some color variations (ex : Barricade).

Added some BIOS specific bezels (ex : Deco Cassette System).

Added generic horizontal and vertical bezels to use as fallback art files for every game missing individual artwork.

Included a folder INI file to display a list of all games of the collection.

If you spot a bug, or a game I forgot to add a gear shift, please indicate it in the comments, I will try to rectify it ASAP.

* : For the moment I have not managed to update « Golly! Ghost! » efficiently, the one included here is the original version from Mr. RetroLust.

** : Converted for MAME and upscaled to 4K some artworks from HD Lights Out! Retroarch Bezels 8.5.

Converted for MAME  the Sammy Atomiswave 4K Lights Out! Realistic Bezels 1.0.0.

Converted for MAME the Sega Naomi 4K Lights Out! Realistic Retroarch Bezels 1.3.

It is essential to use the included horizontal.ini and vertical.ini files to make the generic fallback bezels work.

The vector.ini and the vector-mono.ini are highly recommended but not essential.
The raster.ini is only to be used if you use the D3D HLSL graphics mode.

I personally use BGFX for the rasters and the fantastic ArcCabView shader from Houb :

https://www.mediafire.com/file/71eylbzx8oom5ji/ArcCabView_MAME_BGFX_Chain_2.2d.7z/file

INSTALLATION

Easy way :

Unzip all LightsOutRevisited0-Z archives in MAME/ARTWORK/

Install updates one after the other, just unzip and replace all files when asked.

Put horizontal and vertical INIs in MAME/INI/PRESETS/

Advanced way :

Use the provided DAT to rebuild the collection with Clear MAME Pro.

Place the resulting ZIP files in MAME/ARTWORK/

Put horizontal and vertical INIs in MAME/INI/PRESETS/

Optional :

Put vector, vector-mono and raster INIs in MAME/INI/PRESETS/

Put Lights Out Bezels Revisited INI in MAME/FOLDERS/

Let's play !

After downloading and testing the release, if you enjoyed it, please come back and react by reviewing or liking the page.

It will take you just a few seconds and help me give visibility to this project.

Very Cool, thanks for this.  I'm having trouble using the ArcCabView with these overlays though. For some reason I get wavy lines overlaid on the screen.  If I go into slider controls and change ArcCabView to something else, then switch back it fixes it, but doesn't save it.  Wavy lines return after restart. Works with OrionsAngel overlays, but not Mr. Retrolusts.

**Update** - found the issue in mame.ini     now it works great! Thanks again!

    # OSD ACCELERATED VIDEO OPTIONS

filter                    1
prescale                  3 <---- problem - originally set to 1, causes issues when set to 3

Strange, I play in 4K with prescale 3 and never had this issue.

Hello. While I'm downloading the archives, I want to know where to get the horizontal and vertical INIs files? Or will they be among the archives?
I also read that there is something called: crt-geom-deluxe. What's better?
And one more thing, is the Mame emulator separately much better than the one available from Retroarch? Is RetroArch just more convenient?

Please tell me, do I need an update if I have Mame 0.268?

And please tell me, in the update archives, in addition to the ARTWORK folder, there is a FOLDER folder and in it the Lights Out Bezels Revisited.ini file. Where should I throw this Lights Out Bezels Revisited?

I’ve basically sorted out the placement of files, everything seems to be correct. Now we need to make changes to mame .ini . And yet, I had to manually create the folder folder, so it didn’t exist or maybe it will appear after saving the system data. What kind of folder is DAT? Is it absolutely necessary and what does it affect, please tell me?

1) ArcCabView is simply an optimized modification of the crt-geom-deluxe included with the MAME distribution.
You can use whichever one you prefer, or even another - it's a personal choice.

2) the original MAME is infinitely better than the horrible adaptation supplied with RetroArch.
My artworks collection won't work with RetroArch anyway.

3) As it stands, the vast majority of the collection should work with future versions of MAME.
All that's needed is for the name of an artwork to match the name of the ROM for which it's intended. Even if I never update again, 99% of the collection should work with MAME 0.268 and later.

The DAT is designed for users who use Clrmamepro or a similar tool to manage their ROM and artworks collections.

I had a problem when using the "The MAME Arcade Pre Configuration Project" by Warped Polygon and these artworks.
The problem was with Neogeo Games, not showing artworks.
At the end of the "CFG" files by Warped Polygon there is this label:

        <video>
            <target index="0" view="Screen 0 Pixel Aspect (10:7)" />
        </video>

Don't know what it does, but when you change the valour "target index" to "1", problem is gone, and the artwork is shown,
After testing the game, i opened the CFG again and the "<video> </video> " label was gone.
I don't understand why all of this happens, but that was the solution.
I hope this would help to anyone with the same trouble, because it was a little hard for me to find the cause.

Those artworks are UHD 4K 3840x2160.

Here's the one you're looking for in HD 1080.
I converted it just for you, quick n easy way.loht.zip

What's the need for this new thread then? There's already this one for Mr retrolust's lightsout 4K bezels, isn't there?

Thanks btw, that's a great bezel! :)

Thank you for the post and thanks to Mr RetroLust of course !

For those who want to remove the scratches and the reflections, here is an automated way :

- Install ImageMagick from https://imagemagick.org/script/download.php

- run this command line (update the path where needed)

"C:\Program Files\ImageMagick\magick.exe" mogrify -channel A -fx "a<0.263 ? 0 : a"  "C:\Emulators\Mame0269b_64bit\artwork\1941\1.png"

and...that's it !

This works but it needs smoothing around the cut area, a small shadow would look nice too.

You could do this by lowering the 0.263 value, but this would leave the most prominent scratches. Then you could remove them by hand in an editing software (easily as they would be in the middle of the screen).

So nothing automated unless you want to go one step further : 1 pass as above, 2nd pass reads the screen coordinates from the layout file and erases the inside area
