How to keep the start-up screen on untill a game launches
Kefka2b replied to Kefka2b's topic in Troubleshooting
@JoeViking245 hey I did a bit of experimenting. So strangely enough it seems that both settings time values actually add up when using both which I don't think is supposed to happen. However setting minimum start-up screen time to 0 and only using emulators startup delay time works well, but not on all emulators, for example the model 2 emulator doesn't respect the value selected and opens after less than a second making the loading screen almost useless. I also noticed for Dolphin as an example that using both settings together allows for a cleaner startup as it hides the quick Dolphin windows that flashes when starting a game. When not using minimum startup time it flashes on top of the startup screen. -

@JoeViking245 while I have you here Do you have a quick explanation on how the emulator start-up delay and start-up screen minimum time work together? -

How to keep the start-up screen on untill a game launches

Thanks, I actually tested but it's not easy to implement as each game will be very different so I bulk disabled the start-up theme (and pause theme) for all Steam games, a bit cumbersome to remember to do it each time you add a new game though, hopefully we can get the same options soon as we have for emulators. But most useful would be simply to have start-up option that allows you to select a minimum displayed value and then launchbox auto-detects when a game has started and switches to it if more time is needed. -
So that might be a bit of an easy one I guess, so I have my start-up screen (Slipstream) to be on for 3.5 seconds which is the time the loading bar takes to fill and is a great value for all emulators I have. For Steam games however, often this is not enough and screen goes back to launchbox or Bigbox until the game starts. Is there a way to set a maximum time value, detect when the game has launched and switch automatically?

Alright I guess I'll wait for the CTC to be updated and make those selectable as they aren't for now (Unless the object is not actually a badge anymore). I guess I'll just stick to displaying a screenshot for a couple of seconds before playing the videos as these are instantaneously showing. Thanks for the tips!

Thanks mate ! Strangely enough regarding point 1, I did set all the elements to load during selection and it works great when navigating within the CTC after applying the changes, but within BigBox I still get that extra lag before videos load unlike all the other elements which are instantaneous (the behaviour is identical in the Supergrafx platform which only has 5 games or within the platform categories section which has only 6 elements, behaviour is identical compared to a platform that has 500+ games), there's also something strange with badges where the "unplayed" badge doesn't show up in BigBox but does in the CTC, maybe it's linked to new progress features in 13.22 and CTC needs an update for it.

Hey folks, I've started going into theme creation (well modification for now...) and I have a few questions: 1. Is there a way to have videos and badges (and possibly other items but these are the ones I noticed) load instantly without a small transition like clear logos or screenshots do? There's no animations set on them but still they require a couple of seconds each time the selection wheel is moved, I want to make my theme quick and snappy during navigation. 2. Is there a way to load items based on the connected controller/device? Idea to have an image set to a Sinden Light Gun Border on top of the theme when Sinden Gun is connected for navigation with the gun. 3. How do you edit the following elements? Game details screen, Pause and Start-Up themes (I am trying to modify existing themes) 4. Is there a way to remove some platforms from the Game Discovery Center? (I created some Light gun Games playlist set as platforms)

Hey @DarkanParx, I have to say these are my favourites by far, thanks a lot for creating them! I'd love to create more for my build, like a collections and light gun games ones, but also would love to get a UK version of the favourites one, would you have a template to share?

Thanks!!!!!!

Hi folks is there a set of platform categories logos where all of them look similar please? I am looking for these: - Consoles - Arcade - Handhelds - Computers - Favourites - Collections - Light Gun Games - Pinball - Tools (to put utilities like reWASD, Nvidia app, MSI Afterburner etc) If that's not a thing yet, I am also open to a matching set of regular clear logos.

That looks awesome, thank you !!! Hope you'll add further platforms From my collection these are missing if you need some inspiration - Sega Mega Drive / 32X / Mega CD (Pal) / Game Gear / Master Sytem / Naomi 1 & 2 - Sammy Atomiswave - Nintendo Gameboy / DS - Sony PS3 / PS4 - MS Xbox and Xbox 360 / Dos - Arcade / MAME - NEC Turbografx 16 / tgCD / Supergrafx - SNK NeGeo AES / CD / Pockett Color

Somehow sometime it works, however when using the pause screen to quit a game it then blocks again. Probably has to do with 2 apps using exclusive full screen at the same time or something like that.
-
Is it actually possible? It gets stuck behind it I think, or just crashes, it's impossible to quit it from Steam's menu, it will remain as running, even when launching another Steam game on top, it remains as open in the Steam overlay menu, again closing it from there does nothing.
-
NVidia app is pretty useful the with newer auto HDR options and DLSS overrides. For MSI AB, I overclock/undervolt my gpu which is quite good as it lower the temps a lot, and I like to bring up the RTSS overlay when trying to tweaks grahic setting in PC games (I also have a reWASD hotkey to do that).
-
Yep I have auto hide on, I'll try to add -silent to all my startup apps (Steam, reWASD, NVidia app, Sinden software and MSI Afterburner with RivaTuner)
-
Thanks ! I'll give it a shot. I think I'll just keep Windows running as shell for now as there's still a few missing features in BigBox to make it a fully console like experience, I created a few feature request recently so hopefully they implemented at some point. I am trying to find a way to have the taskbar hidden on boot, it always shows up for a bit after going hidden...but it seems impossible.
-
I am struggling a little bit with this one, so I have a few questions and issues that I hope someone can help me with: 1. How do you start other programs without them being launched on top of BigBox on startup (I.e. completely minimised, and also so that alt-tab doesn't display them)? this happens mainly with Steam but it's random. I tried to add -minimized as parameter in the startup apps options but it's not doing anything. 2. Is there a way to still have Windows features (or alternatives) like sound control or bringing up virtual keyboard (I have hotkeys created in reWASD for both doesn't work when BB is set as shell)? 3. Is there any performance benefits running BigBox as shell or any downsides maybe apart from what I described already?

I run only 1 instance of Retroarch, you just need to setup your Gun inputs on port 1 and 2 correctly before anything else, then create content directory remaps for each core where you select the lightgun instead of the console gamepad as input, for that you just need to put your gun games under a subfolder in your platform rom folders (this also allows you to create content directory shaders with megabezel where you can enable the Sinden border on top the amazing CRT shader, removing the need to use the Sinden border shortcut manually): Games/Mega Drive/not a gun game.zip Games /Mega Drive/Light Gun Games/Gun Game.zip For Input setup in Retroarch, this video helped me a lot (the Sinden wiki wasn't making a lot of sense to me in some instances I am afraid), you can also use hotkeys in Retroarch as keyboard keys can be set as secondary hotkeys: For Bigbox you have to use Enter and escape to confirm and go back, so you need to map those keys in the Sinden software, which also means that you need to ensure your gun inputs in each emulator take that into account. I also setup F12 as the hotkey to open the LB/BB Pause screen so that I can actually use it with both controllers and the gun (mapping it also in the Sinden software). For other emulators like PCSX2, Super Model, Model 2, Dolphin etc, I had to create duplicate emulators mainly because of easier controls setup and for putting the Sinden border via Reshade, again eliminating the need to bring it up manually with the gun and freeing up a button on the gun. Good luck, you're in for quite a few hours I am still missing RPCS3 (where setting up gun controls looks absolutely crazy) and OG Xbox which I understand requires the CXBX-Reloaded emulator(Which I haven't yet looked at), but Retroarch has handled all other platforms for me regarding light gun games.
