  1. If I remember correctly, there's a startup folder in the start menu in old windows versions. You could add a shortcut there, and it would show up in the msconfig startup section. I'm not sure how to auto start it from a command line, though.
  2. I'm not a developer so I can't answer any of those questions, but I have seen this same error pop up quite a few times because I'm impatient. Every time it's happened, I've been moving between views too quickly. Or, if I select a large list that takes a while to load, then select a different menu before it changes over. Lately I've been making a point of not rushing. If I press a button and hear the audio cue, don't touch anything until it changes pages. For some of my long games lists (100+ games) , it can take up to 20 seconds to change over. But I haven't seen that error since. My guess is that core/themes is a working or temporary directory, so moving too quickly could make BB try to load a temporary file that doesn't exist yet.
  3. Have you tried running a fresh copy of 12.14? Launchbox is portable, so you can move it to another directory (also making a backup wouldn't hurt either), and install a fresh copy. I'm not sure if it's related, but my launchbox installation didn't work after updating to 12.14 Launchbox just failed to start though, it didn't force my computer to shut down. I was able to repair it by copying my data, images, themes, and video folders into a clean install. Could you describe how it shuts down? Normal windows shutdown, BSOD, just cuts to a blank screen?
  4. So, after a lot of trial and error with various programs over the last 2 weeks, I finally got most of my controller issues sorted out! I'm now using a combination of Steam, Hidhide, Bigbox, Retroarch, and Moonlight. All my controllers are now functioning and can be rebound, can be streamed with Moonlight and Steam Link (with active controller forced to port 1), Steam games work with big picture rebinds, and Retroarch even support local multiplayer with potentially up to 16 players. I just have to turn on the controllers I want (player 1 first), start moonlight or bigbox, and it's good to go. I wrote a couple long replies to this reddit thread, describing everything I did.
  5. Moving the database, images, themes, etc. into a fresh install did work, and everything's up and running good again. Here's the broken installation, if any developers want to take a look at what happened. I removed the images, videos, and license file to compact it because the whole directory was 25 GB. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1vJW4C6bxgQPq6TajLUqO8nrWhnfFxaNu/view?usp=sharing
  6. So, I just started up launchbox a few hours ago, and there was a notification about the new 12.14 update. I wanted to play a game at that moment, so I picked the option to not update. I played some games for a while, closed Bigbox, then an installer popped up to update anyway. So I switched to my computer (I was streaming it to my TV with Moonlight), and the update wizard was gone. I never started the update wizard as I didn't have a keyboard or mouse at the TV. Now, both Launchbox and Bigbox do absolutely nothing when I try to start them. I have them installed on a network share, so maybe the installer only had partial permissions or something, and corrupted a core file. I'm going to make a clean install and copy all of my database files into that. Hopefully that will work, I don't think I would have the patience to rebuild my database from scratch again.
  7. That looks like it might be exactly what I need, I'll try it out tonight, thanks! I thought use all controllers was necessary, because I wasn't able to control anything over moonlight without it checked. But I think it was just a coincidence, that I had other controllers connected while testing a stream. I just tried again last night, and I definitely couldn't control anything over moonlight, when an xbox controller was plugged into the launchbox pc and the UAC option enabled. So I'm not sure now. I actually already have LB booting through Steam with the overlay, I forgot you can rebind specific controllers with that. I'll be sure to try it out tonight too. I was originally using Steam Link to stream (which worked fairly well), but switched to moonlight. Moonlight can't boot software installed on a network share directly, so I'm using a steam shortcut instead as a workaround.
  8. I just ran across something weird: somehow Bigbox auto-generated two identically named folders in the same directory, which should not be possible at all. I unfortunately have no idea how to replicate it. I had bigbox open in the background and copied these two folders (Images/Platform Category) from another console, I think it was gamecube. I then renamed the folders to Super Game Boy, maximized Bigbox, and refreshed the platform images, and suddenly there were two of each. One had my custom files, and the other had an auto-generated banner. I browsed to the directory in command prompt to make sure I wasn't crazy, and only one of each was listed. Maybe because the folder couldn't be created again, it used the old 8.3 name format or something? I didn't look over the entire list of folders as there's a couple hundred. For the record, this was on a network share, another windows 10 machine acting as a file server.
  9. Edit: I seem to have figured out most of my controller problems after two long, frustrating weeks! I wrote a couple long replies to this reddit thread, describing everything I did. I'm having a bit of trouble with binding controllers. To put it simply, I have an Xbox controller, generic wireless controller, and an 8BitDo SN30 (plus several more that I'll look into in the future), and would like to reverse the A/B and X/Y buttons on only the xbox controller. The catch is that I can't use Retroarch's rebinds, as I have to use Bigbox's Use All Controller options. The wireless controller's dongle acts as a connected wired controller at all times, whether it's active or not, and retroarch seems to always have this controller take priority. For the xbox/8bitdo controllers, they are both treated as the same xbox controller, so I can't rebind one without affecting the other. Oh, and to add to the complexity, I have streaming set up with moonlight too, but afaik that treats everything as an xbox controller too. Basically, I'm looking for some kind of program that can accept inputs from multiple controllers connected (but not used) simultaneously, be able to rebind each controller individually, then output as a single universal controller to launchbox. Huge plus if it's a virtual controller that can have additional analog sticks and buttons w/ deadzone configuration, so I could use my flight stick too. Does anything like that exist? A program with a similar concept is Voicemeeter, I'm looking for something like that, but for controllers. Multiple different inputs, able to tweak them, then output as virtual hardware to the OS.

  12. Long load time warning banner set, Smash Bros Melee theme View File I decided to compress my ROM files for all platforms to conserve space, which had the side effect of dramatically increasing load times for some platforms. My family (myself included) is impatient, so I made these images to use as playlist banners. They're to remind us to not spam buttons and crash BigBox while it's extracting a file for 1-3 minutes. I chose to use the Smash Bros Melee challenger approaching screen (A new challenger: Impatience lol). Each platform has a silhouette of the console and controller, made using viking's console image set. If you want to create a silhouette, cut out the image, paint it all black, and use a feather edge selection (With GIMP, i used a setting of 50 to 75 then hit delete) to create a semi transparent border, then paste it all on top of the template. I've included templates (with and without custom text), and both 16:9 and 4:3 versions of all images. 14. BigBoxStation - BigBox Themed PS1 Startup Video View File I spent waaaaay too long trying to make this as accurate as I could to the original Playstation startup, but I think it turned out good. I also included variants, if you want the scan lines, noise, or both removed. Please don't be too harsh lol, it's my first real attempt at creating a video, and I learned how to use a lot of new software. It was my first time ever seeing 2D animation software, and davinci fusion scripts. I modeled the BB logo using CAD software, which I'm also very new to. The original startup, if you want to compare: Submitter Zkyo Submitted 07/15/2022 Category Startup Videos

  16. After a lot of research and headaches today, I was able to successfully add DSiWare games to my Launchbox library. It's nowhere near as simple as dragging and dropping files like most consoles, but possible. I decided to record a tutorial video explaining how I did this. Please excuse the frequent rambling and stuttering, I'm not the best at verbal communication and this is my first spoken video. I also just released some cover art templates to go with these. Attached is a zip file with the folder structure i used, and a much shorter written guide. 1640958790_DSiWareSetupGamePacksTutorial(RetroarchMelonDSLaunchbox).zip

I was unable to find any decent quality images of DSiWare templates, so I decided to make one. I tried my best to mimic the dual border design used on several eshop games. I also decided to make a version for sets of 6 DSiWare games, which I'm dubbing Game Packs lol. The images are partially hand drawn, and I tried to mimic the DSi home screen. I recently figured out a way to add my DSiWare library to launchbox, and grouping them saves a considerable amount of storage space. If you want to know more about that, check my forum post for a tutorial.

  20. Hi, I was wondering if it's possible to specify a location for the launchbox and big box cache outside of the main directory. Basically, I'm trying to set up a single LB installation on my NAS, then letting any connected device simply run that installation. My setup works great on my home network (for the most part, I'm still working through some issues with android devices and streaming, but let's ignore that for now). I just tried it from outside the network, and the performance is horrible (takes 5 minutes to launch BB, 5-10 seconds to change menu options). In hindsight i really should have seen this coming lol. I'm connecting through a VPN (Zerotier one), so performance isn't going to be great to begin with but I'm fine with that. I think that most of the network traffic is from the image transfer. I think that if I can set the cache location to a local drive that's guaranteed to exist on any computer (IE C:/LaunchboxCache), it would help the performance. I'd still have the initial performance hit of it downloading images, but once it's all in cache it would be usable. Maybe I could even set it to use Windows's temp folder to automatically wipe the image cache when it's not being used. I haven't looked into that at all yet. If moving the cache isn't possible, then could I do the inverse? Create a barebones LB installation that I could zip and copy to other computers, extracting when I want to use it, and able to freely delete. This installation would need all configuration files, media images (except for cache), databases, videos, etc on the NAS, with all essential files on the local drive.
  21. Zkyo's Game Gear Console Overlay View File This is a custom Retroarch overlay for the Sega Game Gear. I made it by merging these overlays: -OrionAngel's Game Gear Overlay (Used texture for screen glare) -flatuswalrus's Better/Fixed Game Gear Overlay (Used most of console) -Images of a master system background and game gear logo I found on google Included are four versions, so you can pick between having logos and a glass screen. I also included the source pictures, if anyone wants to modify it in the future. And yes, I know the screen is off center. It bugs me a bit too, but I'm not skilled enough at photo editing to fix it. 25. I actually think I just figured out why this happens. I changed the configuration of Retroarch to store some of the files on my NAS (config, overlays, saves, screenshots, states, and system folders) so that I could sync them between two computers. How to fix this is another question. I'm not familiar with how the bezel project works, so I'm not sure how I could sync these too. Simply copying the overlays folder to the NAS partially works. I can select the overlays, but it doesn't change when switching games. I'd have to set the overlay manually for each game. Edit: Never mind, I'm dumb. Don't be like me, and split retroarch across two devices. I just moved all of retroarch to my NAS and reset the main config. It's working great now.
