Yes, that makes sense. Good point, not sure, but they may not be cross compatible. Regardless, when I do add that feature, it'll be off by default. Not a bad idea; I just don't think this has come up before. I'll add it to my ideas list.

I'm not positive/clear on exactly what you want to do here, based on the above. However, you can structure the platform categories view however you want, from inside of LaunchBox. In the left sidebar, select platform categories. Then you can right-click on items in the list and select Edit. The Parents tab specifies where in the structure that item will appear, both in LaunchBox and in Big Box. -
Can always back up your folder first, if you're skiddish. Without more information, there's not much I can do to troubleshoot.

The first 9.11 beta is out now with the following: Fixed: The PrioritizedPathSelector control that is used in a number of Big Box themes has been fixed to ignore characters in titles that are invalid in the file system Fixed: The LEDBlinky implementation was throwing errors if you happen to have invalid characters in game file paths Fixed: When scanning for added ROMs, LaunchBox was not properly using the default emulator on the added games (was using the first emulator found for that platform instead) Fixed: Potential errors when loading up empty platforms in Big Box Fixed: Platforms with mismatched capitalization (Nintendo Entertainment System vs. Nintendo entertainment system) were sometimes causing games to not show up in Big Box Just some random fixes at this point.

Check the Region field on the games, as I believe that defines what region should be used for images. If a game has a specific region specified, it should be using images from that region if available. If no region is specified, it should be using the region priorities list and taking the first available image, in the order of those priorities. Also, make sure you refresh your images (right click, Refresh Selected Images) in case it's a relic from previous data. If you're still seeing things that are incorrect after all of that, let me know, and I'll do some further testing.

Bigbox Crashing when choosing NES Header 9.10

Alright, I have this figured out. Sorry for the delay. There were actually two separate issues here: Empty platforms were throwing up the error you had above in some cases Mismatched capitalization in the platform name was causing games to not show up in Big Box I'm not sure how it happened, but somehow your games got set to "Nintendo Entertainment System" as the platform name, while the actual platform was titled "Nintendo entertainment system", so that is what is causing the problem. I've fixed both of the above issues for the next beta, so the next beta should fix it when it comes out (I think later today). Alternatively, you can just edit the "Nintendo entertainment system" platform and change the name to "Nintendo Entertainment System" and that should resolve the issue, even without updating. Thanks Turv3y. -
Hi Claudio, I know the EmuMovies logins are working in LaunchBox, so maybe try replacing your username and password, just in case it changed. If that doesn't work, you would have to contact EmuMovies support.

Bitdefender has a history of being over-zealous and crying wolf, just like so many others. I run every single release through virustotal.com, so I'm always aware of the anti-virus programs that are consistently inaccurate, and Bitdefender is often near the top of that list. But yes, it's a false positive.

Yeah, and that's weird too because there are two types of drop downs: the drop downs with the checkboxes, and the standard Windows dropdowns. Both use the standard Windows drop downs underneath though, so I guess that's why they're all like that. -

This is pretty strange, but I've confirmed that Windows is doing it for some reason. Not sure if it's Windows 10-specific, but I would guess that it is. I installed LaunchBox 8.0, which was a version even before .Next, and it does the same thing. Must have been a Windows update I guess. -
I have to admit I'm extremely confused on this, as none of it makes any sense and I've never heard of any users having either of those issues. If you're on 9.10, though, there should be no updates prompting, as 9.10 is the latest. Let's start there. Are you on 9.10 and still seeing update prompts?

The backup and restore settings option is probably more what you're going for with the above. That way, you could just back up your settings, and then play around however you want, and restore them later. The theme-specific stuff means that if you change your main theme, Big Box will remember views and other settings for the previous themes that you've used, so you can switch between them and have the same experience as you had before.

We almost put all those on the poll, but there wasn't a whole lot of interest. Unfortunately the GOG one that is on the poll isn't being highly voted, either.

A controller companion-type solution was discussed in the stream, but didn't get a whole lot of positive responses. I can see it being very useful, but there are also good apps out there for it already. This is on the poll and doing well at #5, so it looks like this will be coming. Steam achievements aren't doing quite as well as I would have hoped; currently at #21, but that's close to the cutoff. That sounds a bit more involved than simple game-specific MAME leaderboards, but there are some good ideas there.

Not really sure what you mean, as LaunchBox is already multithreaded and you can already carry on using LaunchBox while an import is running. That functionality has been available for a long time. Hi @viking, just FYI, the startup videos currently will play the full video, unless you press a key; in that situation it will cut the video off whenever Big Box is ready. So the first item there is already possible, assuming you don't mind pressing a key. It works well this way because you have the option of displaying the whole video or not. I've noted all of those items. I agree they would all be amazing, though I will admit the bottom two are major changes so they would be a serious challenge.

It came up during the live stream and there wasn't much interest, especially considering that we have the wheel spin random option already in Big Box. As long as Android ends up in the top 20, we'll be tackling it, though I will work on it off and on a bit so that the desktop version isn't starved for new features. I am surprised, but it didn't come up in my search for items for the poll, or in the live stream. Noted though. MAME high scores with community sharing is #13 right now, so it's definitely on the docket, at least for now. It's one of the ones I'm most excited about as well.

The Rocket Launcher solution requires running everything in windowed mode (not exclusive fullscreen mode), which is more than a bit of a hack. So far, we've managed to implement both the startup and pause screens with proper support for exclusive fullscreen mode games and emulators, and I took that approach after a lot of research and study. I believe that a lot of the trouble that Rocket Launcher runs into with emulator updates (and a lot of the added complexity) comes from trying to do things the windowed way, and I've decided that we won't be taking that approach. With Retroarch supporting more and more platforms these days, it doesn't make much sense to hack in a Rocket Launcher type solution.

Ah, that makes sense. I've actually never heard that request before, but I can see how that would be nice. Noted. I'm surprised that didn't come up in the live stream, but maybe it's my fault for saying that bezels are better handled by the emulators themselves. It's definitely a possibility for the future that we could manage bezels for MAME and/or Retroarch. It just would have to rely on the emulators to actually show them.

There's almost always still ways to speed things up, yes. I'll add that to my list to see if I can speed the process when pressing OK on a game edit. Can you explain? I'm not fully following.

As cool as it would be to support Hyperspin themes, it's just not feasible. With Hyperspin theme support comes all of the well-known current problems along with it, not to mention it would require integrating a completely separate theming engine, which I don't believe would be time well spent at this point. I'm not an expert on Hyperspin's file structure, but I believe all you have to do is modify the platform folder location settings in LaunchBox if you want to use Hyperspin's media folder structure.

I can understand that. Android is at least a step in the right direction though. We've been trying, as observed by the poll we put out some time last year. We just didn't really get enough of a positive response.
