Yes, though not in this initial release. That's pretty important though so that will be coming soon. The issue with using a NAS is that you'd have to be local to the NAS, or have some kind of a public-facing web server hosting all the stuff. Plex does it well but it's very complicated. It's possible that we might support something like this eventually, but it's a fairly long ways off. The initial goal for the app is just to make everything work locally, and with the size and cost of SD cards these days, I don't see that as too much of a hindrance. I have a list of known issues that I was waiting to post until Google finally approves the Android app and it goes live, but this is a known issue that I was planning on posting. Bin and cue files will be supported, but they're not supported yet.

One more thing that I do want to mention: anyone can test the Android export process by going to Tools > Export to Android in the LaunchBox beta. You don't have to have the app installed to get a collection ready on your Android device. Then, when you do get the app installed, your collection will automatically show up in the app.

Also, watch ETA Prime's channel on YouTube. He's going to be putting out a teaser video later today.

I've been back and forth with them several times now. Hopefully the one I submitted this morning will be the last revision. There's been a lot of confusion about whether the app is a game or not, and Google hasn't exactly been straightforward with me in explaining exactly what needs changed. But anyways, yeah. If we're lucky, it'll be ready today. But yes, I'll announce it once it's live for sure.

Sorry for that guys; beta 3 is out now to fix the issue with the missing game details sidebar items.

Please HELP! Scan for added roms shows games already in my collection
Jason Carr replied to DVNT's topic in Troubleshooting
I believe I've found and fixed this for the next beta. I think it's a bug that was introduced a while back during some performance optimization stuff. -
I just put out the 10.0-beta-2 release. I decided to switch up to the 10.0 release (instead of 9.11), because I've made some major backend changes to support Android and such. This new beta includes the following: New Feature: A new Export to Android wizard is now available under the tools menu Fixed: Big Box was erroring in some situations for games without any platform set (and possibly no games found situations) I'm currently waiting on Google to approve the Android release, but that should be out in beta form very soon. I'll create a new forum post for the Android release when it's out.

I have yet to be able to replicate this. I've tested it on several occasions, and it seems to be working fine, so I'm lost on it currently. Has anyone else seen any issues with background music randomization?

Please HELP! Scan for added roms shows games already in my collection
Jason Carr replied to DVNT's topic in Troubleshooting
It's probably somehow related to how the additional app is configured. If someone can screenshot me an additional app that is being duplicated, I'll dive in deeper. -
I am aware of this issue, but it's defeated me a couple times in trying to fix it. It's still high up on my list though, so I'll bang my head against it again soon. Is there a reason why you're quoting this here?

Playing ROMs from the cloud would be on very shaky legal grounds, so unfortunately I don't think we'll ever go in that direction. Also, I was headed that way back when we originally build the LaunchBox Games Database, but I learned that most people were not very interested in a cloud-based solution (which surprised me at the time). Noted, though I did make an attempt to get these on the poll, and they didn't get much excitement in the live stream. We'll get them in there eventually though. The first Android beta will be out in the next few days; I'm just waiting on Google to approve it, so all these questions will be answered. For the moment, though, forgive me, but I'd rather focus on dev than provide elaborate answers here.

Please HELP! Scan for added roms shows games already in my collection
Jason Carr replied to DVNT's topic in Troubleshooting
The scan tool was built to acknowledge additional apps from the beginning. It's possible that there's a bug, but I'm not currently aware of one there. -
@viking I think that FTP problem should be fixed now. Videos are looking great.

Sorry for the delay on that guys; I've just enabled the new version. -
Please HELP! Scan for added roms shows games already in my collection
Jason Carr replied to DVNT's topic in Troubleshooting
That feature hasn't been changed in a long time, so I'm doubting that this is a new issue, but I could always be wrong. It sounds like maybe it's an issue because of bin/cue games? Maybe it's picking up the bin or the cue as a new file. -
That doesn't sound normal; if you would, please zip up and PM me your LaunchBox\Data folder, and I'll see what's going on.

bug Custom fields duplicating, games disappearing, videos disappearing
Jason Carr replied to xevidroid's topic in Troubleshooting
@xevidroid One more thought that @Retro808 brought to my attention. Google Drive has the potential to mess everything up, if it's syncing files incorrectly. It's been years since I tested Google Drive, but back when I did it had some major, major problems with things not syncing properly. If I had to guess, it likely has to do with Google Drive. It's worth moving LaunchBox out of Google Drive to see if you are running into the same issues.- 18 replies

Jason Carr replied to xevidroid's topic in Troubleshooting
@xevidroid It is hard to say at this point where the problems lie, but I will say that you're running into a bunch of issues that I haven't heard of anywhere else, which still makes me think they're somehow related to system instability. I have well over 10 years of programming and troubleshooting expertise, and I know better than to try and track down bugs on a system that is just obviously unstable. You have to track down one bug at a time, or else you'll just end up spinning your wheels. Even if there are legitimate bugs in LaunchBox related to your setup, I can't really do much to track them down or trust any results until you're working with a stable system. My apologies, but it really would just be wasting my time if I dove in deep when there's obviously more serious issues at play.- 18 replies

bug Custom fields duplicating, games disappearing, videos disappearing
Jason Carr replied to xevidroid's topic in Troubleshooting
@xevidroid LaunchBox does not and has never randomly deleted video files (or image files, or anything else, for that matter). That has literally never once been an issue in the past and it never will be; it doesn't happen. What this means is that there's something else on your system that is causing serious issues like this. It could be anything from drive failure, to a corrupted file system, to a virus or malware, or even something strange like an app conflict. I'm sorry you're running into these issues, but stuff like this is not caused by LaunchBox. Let us know if there's anything further we can do to help identify the root problem here.- 18 replies

It's hard to know what could be causing it, but it's most likely either a driver issue, or an issue with a corrupt installation of the .NET Framework. Probably the next thing to try is reinstalling the .NET Framework 4.7.2. Are you running Windows 7 or Windows 10?

There are many more reasons for parental filters with games than hiding porn games. I don't keep porn games in my collection at all, but I would prefer if rated M games with videos weren't displayed for them. You're a bit off in thinking that it's just a matter of trusting your kids; it doesn't really matter if that's an issue or not if a kid can stumble on content they shouldn't see. My kids don't want violent content because they don't like it, and so they don't want to see it. I don't really understand why you're so passionate about this, but I just wanted to clarify this because there seems to be a lot of confusion. Filters are not a replacement for parenting, and they should never be, but they're also very useful. You wouldn't put a bunch of porn ads in front of your kids and expect them not to look. That just doesn't make sense.

Both LaunchBox and Big Box have separate settings to show or hide "hidden" and/or "broken" games. So you can hide both categories independently throughout all of LaunchBox and/or Big Box. You can't hide things *just* from attract mode though, currently.

Gotcha. Yes, we have had good luck re-routing traffic through VPNs on occasion, so that is definitely worth a try. Sometimes traffic gets routed differently, which can help, and it also gets around any ISP filtering/slowdowns. I have observed that some ISPs are unfortunately slowing down our traffic, so VPNs can solve a number of issues.

Unfortunately I don't really have a tried and true test, no. The best test I can do is to just verify that everything is up and running and that I can connect to it properly from where I'm at (and use a VPN to test locations around the world). Unfortunately the Internet can occasionally be a fickle beast connecting various locations around the world. Where are you located and who is your ISP?

I just tested everything and all appears to be well, so it must just be some kind of connection error, or a weird hiccup in the interwebs between your machine and the server, I guess.
