Non-installed Steam/GOG Galaxy/Origin games import feature
bd00 replied to CliveBarker's topic in Features
OK, here are my results from the new 4.9-beta-2: Dolphin and PuTTY have gone. The others are the same. -
Yeah, I believe Steam preallocates disk space and creates shortcuts, start menu entries, etc. prior to actually downloading and installing the game. So it wouldn't be a stretch to believe that it creates the appmanifest files at this point too. I'm pretty sure a cancelled download leaves these files behind. I recall this happening to me before. I cancelled a download I started by mistake, but the shortcuts remained on the desktop, in the start menu and even in the uninstall list in the Program & Features area of Control Panel. I didn't check for a leftover appmanifest file, nor do I know what happened to the allocated disk space now I think about it. That was on an old machine, so no way to check now. Yeah, Windows leaves a trail of carnage in it's wake. You can get 3rd party unistallers that perform a "deep scan" for leftover files (including registry items) after a programs unistaller has finished. You might be surprised how often and how much, Windows lets apps leave behind. IOBit Uninstaller and Revo Uninstaller are two that come to mind. NOTE: It is worth checking the list of items they find before hitting the delete button and be careful of those that require a restart after unistall. They usually add a task to clean up locked files that couldn't be deleted at the time, this can cause issues. I had a problem with Samsung Kies (a program I already loathed) where I used IOBitU and the next time I restarted my system was crippled. In the end I managed to do a system restore, unistalled it and deleted the leftovers manually after a restart. I seem to have drifted of topic. Back to Steam, did you find/consider any other avenues to get the appid for installed games. I am actually considering shortcuts at this point. Put them in a directory and use those to get the appid. Everytime I install a new game, create the desktop shortcut and move it to that directory. When I remove a game, delete the shortcut. It is a bit of a dirty hack that requires manual intervention, but I will have full control over it and games I need to remove will be easier to find. I will also avoid the issue of Steam creating files for games that are not installed. In fact, I could just import the .url's as you would ROM's and I could use the emulator feature to bypass the "bulk edit additional apps" problem I am faced with. Also, I no longer need to inject the xml file. I won't get the benefits of the Steam scraper, but I can live with that since I create my own uniform covers for PC games anyway and I don't mind adding the metadata to a few games now and then. Also, that reminds me, do you have a "bulk download missing data" and/or "bulk download missing images" feature planned/in-the-works? Sorry for the long post.

Lol yeah. Considering computers do exactly what you say, they still leave you wondering "what the heck is it doing?" I suppose the problem is they only do exactly as you say.

Non-installed Steam/GOG Galaxy/Origin games import feature

Hippyshake said Ok, now I'm even more confused. I have Battlefield 3, Bejeweled 3, and Dolphin installed. Why isn't it seeing them for me? Beats me! Maybe Jason could shed some light when he returns from slumber. -

Non-installed Steam/GOG Galaxy/Origin games import feature

It worked for me. Found both .lnk and .exe files. Also picked up Dolphin and PuTTY. I used this one: Jason Carr said Try this one instead now guys: https://www.dropbox.com/s/q1ni7ov0t2uarfh/LaunchBoxTroubleshootingBuild2.exe?dl=0 -
So am I right to assuming when a game is uninstalled, Steam leaves behind the appmanifest file? This is what causes the issues? So you got the appid from the appmanifest files, then used the Store API to pull the rest of the information you need, or SteamKit or something like that? Sorry to keep pressing on this, but I am considering creating my own solution so I can import installed Steam games and it would help if I knew what problems you faced.

Out of curiosity, did you use the appmanifest files with the old method?

Maddoc1007 said Me too its 3.31a.m here lol thanks for all your help sorting me out bd000 No probs. Anytime. Yeah, I live in England at present so it was 3.31am for me too. Was up at 6.30am this morning and had a busy day so far. Got one more errand to run shortly, then I should be able to relax for the rest of the afternoon. At least until I pick my son up from school.

Looks good. I am the opposite to you. I have to finish a game even if I am not enjoying it, borderline OCD.
-
If Jason creates his own games database he could tailor it in so many ways. What you describe would definitely be possible.

Maddoc1007 said Ye think thats bad my days and evenings with my daughter are shirley temple, pippi longstockings, my little pony, my little petshop, fairies, pixies, dog films, sleeping beauties like me almost now lol, films with rats cat horses any animals furry cutie, and i end up tootie same for games lol LOL Maddoc1007 said have fun with it and wait till they want to put makeup on you or do girly shopping lol LOL Jason Carr said Oh man, you're a better Dad than I am. That crosses the line lol. and LOL Feeling tired and deflated today and you guys just perked me up. Thank you, great thread. I sometimes think it would be nice to have a little girl next time round. HAHAHAHA! YES! Thank god it worked this time! Right I am off to bed. Night night.

Haha. Has he seen the Sonic movie? Or any of the TV shows? Remember The Adventures of Super Mario Bros. 3, The Super Mario Bros. Super Show, The New Super Mario World, Captain N and all that? I made the mistake of introducing him to it all. It's not that bad I suppose because he has an iPad and I set up Plex for him, so he sits and watches an episode before bed and I don't have to partake, unless he decides he wants me to watch it too. I'm like "Go ask Mummy!" he always replies "No! I want to watch it with you!" The wife was smart, she nipped it in the bud at the very start, he knows not to bother her with it.

OK, I was able to recreate and found the problem. I updated the script. Seems that you need to be in the emulators directory in order for it to work. Which means I had to separate the emulators path and actual exe into two separate variables. So now you need to add: Path to rom directory Path to emu directory (don't included emu_name.exe, just the directory) Executable name (e.g. emulator_multicpu.exe) I missed this because my script is a little more complex and is already in the emulator directory when it hits this command. EDIT I just found an error, it is corrected now but if you happened to copy it before I fixed it, then your batch will fail. It is good now so copy it again. I'm so tired, I really need to go to bed.

Are your roms stored in the proper directory? Inside the emulator directory?

A banner like this would work for installed Steam games though. Everyone could use that, even if we do have to set it manually. It would work with posters and/or Steam banners.

I know what you mean, but to be fair I am enjoying playing PvZ and I don't mind Mario games either. Sure beats some of his other favorite games like Woodle Tree Adventure. He loved that game so much. We had this little thing where he stole all the berries and I pretended to be really cross, he would laugh his little head off. STOP PINCHING MY BERRIES! It was great to start with, but by the 50th play-through I was literally on my knees begging him to play something else. Fortunately that phase is over, but we do revisit it now and again, because I do enjoy seeing him like that. Another random Steam game we stumbled across is Ostrich Island, it is bearable and he really enjoyed it. I do wish I had the time to get my teeth into GTA V though, looks incredible.

OK. Thanks. I will just use the profile method. I already have my Installed games imported, so all I will be importing is non-installed anyway. After that even with a big bundle of new games, it would be easy to pull out the installed ones manually. I was just imagining if I was setting it up for the first time. I'm not crazy, I was thinking of new users. Just leave it as is, don't add it on my account as I doubt many people will separate installed and non-installed like I plan to. Especially if it is has bugs and no further support.

Non-installed Steam/GOG Galaxy/Origin games import feature
bd00 replied to CliveBarker's topic in Features
I'm going to bed soon, it is quite late/early here, but I will try it tomorrow if you still need help. I still have a few days off and not too much to do. Though I really should be playing some of these games while I have the chance. -
Jason Carr said Sure, yup. Steam simply prompts you to install the game if you don't have it installed, when you try and start it through LaunchBox. Still, I don't see any issue with re-enabling the old importer. I'd just put a little tiny link on the wizard to take you there if you'd prefer (though I don't see putting any more work into it, so it won't support any of the new features). Thanks, that would be great. What new features are you talking about? Also, do you have any plans to differentiate between installed and not-installed games? That reminds me, the keyboard shortcut to navigate to a letter has been gone a while now and Ctrl+F for search doesn't work in fullscreen, are either of these in the pipeline?

SentaiBrad said It was flawed in the sense of it wasn't too accurate. It couldn't pick up everything like it can now. If you uninstalled a game and tried to run it through the old method it would fail. It could also pick up a game if you previously uninstalled it but there were files left over. This way, if a game is uninstalled it will prompt you if you would like to install a game and where like normal. It is also more accurate in pulling images and metadata. It is 100%. Unless its a game that later gets removed (which can happen) it will find everything on your account. I never knew that, but I don't have any uninstalled games. It never missed any games for me either, but I imagine it could. As far as setups go, I do prefer DOS, GOG, Origin and Steam games to be seperate and anything else left as PC generalized. It not too hard to do if you do it at the right time. Agreed
-
Of course, I didn't think of that, so simple. But what if I don't want all my Steam games, but only installed ones? Actually how does it work? If I try to run a game that is not installed does it open Steam with the download dialogue? Or does it do nothing? And how does one differentiate between installed games and non-installed games. I was unaware that the old method was flawed, unless you are referring to it only picking up installed games. I never had any problems with it and as of late, was probably my most used feature. I really think the option to import only installed games should be available, surely some people out there would prefer that. Thinking about it, I would probably separate installed games from the rest, using the platform field: Steam (Installed) or something like that. Having the option to import using both methods would make it easier to set up and manage. Note: I use a seperate instance of LB for PC games and I use Steam, Origin, Uplay, ISO, etc. as platform names. This is because PC games are not portable like the others, which are synced across my network. Each computer has its own individual instance of LB for PC games, reflecting what is installed on that system. So importing only installed games (excluding those that already exist). This would import them with PC as the platform and I could bulk edit and change platform to "Steam (Installed)". Then import via profile link (excluding those that already exist). This would import them with PC as the platform and I could bulk edit and change platform to "Steam (All)". Easy. Saves sifting through all the games to manually find the installed ones. Am I the only one here who has a set-up like this?

You're awesome Jason, do you know that?

Games Finder (Website for finding games similar to your favorites)
bd00 replied to CadetStimpy's topic in Games
You know what would be great, if you could find some way to show similar games directly in the game details pane/sidebar.
