  1. I agree with Brad. Using both Plex and Kodi myself, I could never see me switching to LB for multimedia purposes. LB would need a lot of work to catch up to either of those, time which would take Jason away from LB's core purpose. In my opinion, it would be a mistake for Jason to consider anything like this at this moment in time. d3vilsadvocate am I right in understanding that you are not looking for a media centre app, but rather a cataloguing app for your physical DVD/BluRay Collection? This would be different to what Plex and Kodi do and probably more in scope of what LaunchBox is (visually speaking), however it would still take considerable time away from LB's core purpose. You have to remember Jason is the sole dev on this project. Also a cataloguing app as you describe is a whole different market to what LB, Kodi, Plex, etc. offer. If Jason decides to open LB to plugins however, something like what you described might just happen. Have you ever considered digitizing your physical media collection and experimenting with Kodi or Plex? I did this back in 2009 (reluctantly) just because I was moving country, but now I am so glad I did. Physical copies of anything these days just go in the attic to collect dust and it is dust I don't have to clean every week. For those of you who really really want to add movies/tv to LB, it is possible right now only without the benefit of scrapers. Just download a media player such as VLC (must be able to control it from the command line) and set it up as you would an emulator. Then go to Tools>Import>ROM Files... and point it to your movie/tv collection. Skip all scrapers and your movie/tv collection should import, named like the filenames. Of course this is by no means a perfect solution and you will have to add all the artwork and metadata manually, but it is possible. However, if plugins were supported, scrapers for any content a user desires could be created. Adding game footage videos is a completely different kettle of fish, as I assume you would want to add it to a specific game as you would fanart or screenshots?! +1 for this and this was something discussed many moons ago and something far more likely to happen in the near future. Jason mentioned above that he is already planning on adding video support, so this is an exciting prospect.
  2. I updated LB to 4.8 yesterday, only to discover that you have removed the ability to import Steam games using the old method. (Scanning the SteamApps directory) This is very disappointing. Both mine and my sons Steam profiles are private and this seems to leave us no way to update our Steam libraries in LB. If my hand was forced I would consider making my profile public, but under no circumstances would I make my 6 year old's profile public. He is just to young right now. (Note: I am sure a lot of you disagree and don't see any harm in making his profile public, but I have heard all the arguments before and my mind will not be swayed. I have no desire to get into this debate here.) I am unsure if this was a concious design decision or if you just didn't consider all the angles, but I would like to make a request to bring back an option to import only installed Steam games. (from the SteamApps directory) Thanks
  3. Jason Carr said I think my son actually *believes* he is Sonic. When he runs he sticks his arms out behind him. He thinks it makes him blur. HaHa! I know exactly what you mean! He asks me to watch him run really fast like sonic and I pretend he is a blur. It's funny how similar kids are the world over. Mine also jumps up with his fist in the air And now he is trying to grow a moustache! SentaiBrad said Jason Carr said I think my son actually *believes* he is Sonic. When he runs he sticks his arms out behind him. He thinks it makes him blur. I can make that happen... just saying. Anyone remember the coin on a string trick? Not that I ever would or did... but you know... I heard about it. *Edit* I think I may of misinterpreted Brad's post. I thought his response was to Duckeenie saying "Sadly I can't get 5 mins out of a credit these days" but it looks like he was referring to running fast like Sonic and becoming a blur. I just felt compelled to clear that up. Video editing? Or are you just really really fast?
  4. Jason Carr said Me too, bd. Me too. *Ahh Choo* Sorry, what?
  5. kamyk2000 said Edit: Urgh, it didn't post your zip file either... That's strange, I can see it and download it. Am I the only one? Either someone is winding me up, or there are few issues with the forum that Jason should really attend to. SentaiBrad said Don't forget, you can always paste the full text on something like PasteBin and post the link to it on the forums. Hi Brad. Yes I know, I just prefer to keep things "in house" but it looks like I might not have any other choice. It is not great that code cannot be posted in a code block on your forum, without being distorted that is. And on top of that, uploaded files only accessible by the uploader... not good. Looks like the forum needs a little TLC <3
  6. My first was also Atari 2600. I too have introduced my son (also 6) to retro gaming, but he gravitated towards Mario. He loves Sonic too, but Mario is his favorite.
  7. Keep an eye on the Humble Bundle site (https://www.humblebundle.com/) They frequently have digital comic bundles in their "books bundle". Not sure about girl specific. My Little Pony maybe? https://www.comixology.com/My-Little-Pony-Friendship-Is-Magic-4/digital-comic/37847
  8. I had an Atari 2600 and I remember my Mum making it very clear that we must take very good care of it. Now I know why! I have the fondest memories of playing Chuckie Egg with my brother.
  9. Muchas gracias! I'd mow your lawn, but I have hay fever. Sorry!
  10. Wow OK. I checked the preview and it was fine. The problem occurs only when actually posting it. I should of checked the posted version I guess. My bad. Glad you got it figured out. The forum doesn't allow uploads of *.bat files so I stuck it in an zip archive and uploaded it instead. Just in case anyone else wants it.
  11. Ahh, yes you are correct. I am so sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused. The code was correct when I copied it to my clipboard, however it seems to have had an issue when pasting it to the forum. I found the problem! I created a code block inside a blockquote, which bizzarely seems to have chopped the pasted code up. Very odd. Anyway, I have fixed the original post and here is the correct code again (no blockquote this time): SEE 2 POSTS DOWN FOR BAT FILE The forum seems to remove the whitespace I added too. Can't seem to fix this one... Very annoying. REMEMBER: Create and run the batch file from your DESKTOP, this is important. If it is an issue I can easily change it, but wait for the updated script. At the time I figured most people would prefer to work from the desktop, so I built around that. If you need any more assistance just shout.
  12. Smart playlist would work here
  13. Create a playlist called "Music by Koji Kondo" or "Designed by Tim Williams" would probably work I suppose. Then add any games that fit the criteria to the relevant playlist. However, I do see your point now I think about it. I am just put off by the time it would take to set it up and the mess it would make of the details pane, but I guess that is just personally subjective. Your idea would appeal to many people I am sure. I still believe playlists have something to offer. For example, if I wanted to create a group of games, say "Top 10 Games From the 80's" I would much rather have a playlist than a field that then shows up in every game in my library named "Top 10 Game From the 80's". Then 90's, 00's, etc. etc. What if I wanted top ten from 2015? 2014, 2013, 2012, 2011, 2010, etc, etc, etc. Then top ten rpgs, shooters, racers, platformers, etc, etc. Then top ten Sega titles, Nintendo, Atari, etc. etc. I could go on, but I think you see my point by now. Imagine the game details window now. Also, i have mentioned this before, but playlists could be shared among friends/family/the community. For example, you create a playlist called "Breakthrough Games" which contains all the games you see as breakthrough games. You can then share that with me. I import it to my library and any games that I have will show up. Any games that I don't could have a default poster which displays the fact I do not have this in my library. Any games I have but have never played, I could give them a go and see what the fuss is about. Any that are missing and I want to try, I can go looking for them. Things like Music/Composer, Designer, working condition, etc. would definitely be better in fields though. Also, working condition should have color coded icons overlaying the poster or at least in the in the sidebar/popup which are easily visible with a quick glance. But now I am starting to head of subject so I will stop here. At the end of the day I guess, in my opinion, both custom fields and playlists would both be useful additions. It all depends on what each user is looking for.
  14. Sure no probs
  15. Xananax said I would like to second this and say what is needed is simply custom fields. For example, I'd like to have a field "historical relevance" in which I could choose between "grandfather" (games like Colossal Cave or Rogue), "breakthrough" (Doom, Ultima), "Game Changer" (Final Fantasy) , "Iconic" (Mario, Zelda...) I'd like to have a field to store "Working Condition", in which I would fill in "not tested", "works but needs tweaks", "doesn't work"... I'd like to have a field "Controller Type", which would allow me to know if the game works with my Xbox controller or not A field called "Time Pace" to know which game are turn-based and allow me to play when I want to sleep and don't want something too trigger-heavy A field called "point of view" in which I'd store "3rd person", "1st person" "Graphics type: 3D, 2D, isometric", "Self-produced, indie, published" ....And so on All these fields are not useful for everyone and adding them by default would bloat the soft to no end anyway; However, if there was a "custom field" option, I could order and sort my library with all the minutiae of the freak I am. Wouldn't each field need to be applied manually on a per game basis? This could be very VERY time consuming, especially for those with large libraries. Do playlists not make more sense here? With drag and drop, context menu, etc. for speed and ease. Not to mention cluttered game details windows. You could just add an element to the game details window displaying all the playlists that particular game is in, like tags or something. Maybe an option in the game details page to add to playlists too. Playlists can also be shared easily. Am I missing something?

    Feature Requests

I have a handful of requests for your consideration, some aesthetic, some functional. I will keep it brief, let me know if you need me to expand. 1. The ability to add custom art for missing artwork image on a per platform basis. 2. Custom backgrounds on a per platform basis. 3. Allowing the user to customize contents & order of game info sidebar/popup. 4. Allow transparency (fade) options for sidebar(s) backgrounds. 5. Allow the user to add an icon next to the platform name in left sidebar. (Think this may have been discussed already) 6. Move [X] from right sidebar. Too easy to mistake it for LB exit when in full-screen. 7a. Launch random game based on platform currently viewing, as opposed to entire library (Unless 'All' is selected). 7b. Keyboard shortcut for "Launch Random Game" and maybe ability to map to a controller button I guess. 8. Keyboard shortcut for search when in fullscreen. Ctrl+F only works when search box is visible, not in fullscreen. 9. Option to scrape only missing info/images on a per game/platform/all basis. (I get this is a pretty huge one and I'm sure it was discussed before, but I thought I'd mention) 10. Playlists. Now I know this is on your radar but how about allowing users to share playlists with friends or the LB community. So say someone makes a playlist of all Mario games from all platforms or all co-op games for PS2, etc. They can export it to a file and share. The recipient can import it to their library and it will display all the games that they own. Taking it a step further maybe even show them which games they are missing. If you catch my drift.
  18. Jason Carr said Most definitely; big thanks to bd for his work on this post. As I had previously promised, I've finally started to integrate these settings into LaunchBox itself (so they automatically populate and such). I just put out version 4.2-beta-1 ( https://bitbucket.org/jasondavidcarr/launchbox-nightlies ) which includes settings for a handful of them. I'm adding them slowly in because I'm testing them one-by-one. Quick question. Since LB now includes preset CLI options, do you still need me to maintain this thread? or is it obsolete? Or rather, will users still reference it?
  19. Long time no see. Sorry I have had no time to commit to you as of late, I do miss this project. Just noticed 4.4 was released so I thought I'd stop by and say hi. LB seems to be coming along great, excellent work. Hope all is good on your end.
  20. A quick Google search says DAEMON Tools (Lite) should be installed here "C:\Program Files (x86)\DAEMON Tools Lite\DTLite.exe" So... @echo off set daemon="C:\Program Files (x86)\DAEMON Tools Lite\DTLite.exe" start "" %daemon% -mount 0, %1% start /wait "" "SSF.exe" %daemon% -unmount 0 ... should work. Unless you do not store the .bat file in the SSF directory, which means you will need to change SSF.exe to the full path.
  21. Jason Carr said Thanks Wolfereign. Command line switches are actually pretty easy to add in; I do have a few in there already (though they're undocumented). I'll see if I can't get -f in there soon. Ooohhh, please share.
  22. You can change SSF.exe to the full path , though it shouldn't be necessary if you created the .bat file in the same directory as SFF.exe Adding the full path would allow you to store the .bat in a different location if required. The commands look fine to me. Try this: @echo off :: !!!! Change the path below to the location of DAEMON Tools on your system !!!! set daemon="C:\location\of\daemon\tools\here\DTLite.exe" start "" %daemon% -mount 0, %1% start /wait "" "SSF.exe" %daemon% -unmount 0 The empty command prompt is normal, it is the batch file running. If you remove the @echo off from the top, you will see everything happening. The empty quotes are necessary but not being used here. The var=%1% is setting the variable that LaunchBox passes in, i.e. the full path to the game. It is not needed here and you can remove it, I changed my mind while writing the script and didn't clear it myself. The above should work fine. I can't test it right now, but I am sure that will work for you. Also, make sure when you add your path for DT that it is in "quotes" if it contains spaces.
  23. Ah, OK I see. I don't think it is possible at present. I don't use the additional apps feature because I have scripts set up for all my emulators. You could do that for SSF. This should work for SSF: Goto the SSF directory on your system and create a new text file. Open it up and enter this (remember to change the path for DAEMON tools): @echo off set var=%1% :: !!!! Change the path below to the location of DAEMON Tools on your system !!!! set daemon="C:\location\of\daemon\tools\here\DTLite.exe" %daemon% -mount 0, %1% start /wait "" "SSF.exe" %daemon% -unmount 0 Save and close the text file. Rename the "New Text Document.txt" file to "SSF.bat" Open LaunchBox and batch change the emulator from SSF.exe to SSF.bat That's it. Now you don't need to add anything into the additional apps field, since the batch file does everything.
  24. Jason Carr said Btw guys, anyone having trouble with LaunchBox Forums emails going into their spam folder? I noticed that mine were recently and I'm not sure why they are now but weren't before. Here. Also, it looks like your doing some great work Jason, keep it up. I will find time to do some testing soon, i promise.
  25. Batch is possible if you create a .bat file to do all the work and point to it from LaunchBox as an emulator (talking about Windows games here, right?) You just add them as you would roms and use the batch file as the emulator. A single batch file can mount the related image then load the game, if you organize your disc images in a certain manner. e.g. (simple pseudo) - LB passes in the variable (as if passing it to emu) - call it VARA - Take the name of the .exe from VARA and put it into a new variable - call it VARB - Use VARB to find the disc img in your disc images folder and set it as a variable - call it VARC - Start Daemon Tools DT with cli and set path to VARC - Start VARA and pause batch until game is closed - Unmount img in DT - Exit This single .bat would allow you to load all Windows games that require the disc to run, providing you have the img's of course and organize them correctly.
