I just get aggravated when douchebag hardware purists shit all over emulation as being inferior and unplayable when they clearly haven't touched an emulator since the days of Nesticle and ZSnes.
-
Really cool discussion about emulation.
-
There was one in the works but as far as I could tell it was never released if finished. I don't know if Mess is the only option but I do have a copy of the non translated one and it works fine.
-
A couple of things could be done to possibly to alleviate this. One thing to look at first is are you using integer or non integer scaling in the video settings ? Integer will leave black borders at the top and bottom, especially on a 1080 screen. Also take a look at setting a custom resolution to resize it to fit the screen better but this may cause issues in other games since not every game uses the same resolution. Try setting your aspect ratio to 4:3 and integer scaling to off. This should get you full top to bottom screen fill unless the game ran at a weird vertical resolution. This will also have the possible side effect of ugly scanlines if you use a crt shader, some shaders do not work right with non integer scaling.

The clock speed of that CPU seems low for emulation purposes to me, going by this spec page on that cpu http://ark.intel.com/products/41447/Intel-Core-i7-930-Processor-8M-Cache-2_80-GHz-4_80-GTs-Intel-QPI Overall I would say the 140$ is a good price for it but the 2.8 - 3 GHz speed I worry about. Newer system emulation really likes faster. Now I also have zero experience with the newer generation Intel CPUs, been using AMD for a few years now. Going to switch over to Intel on my next full build however. I noticed the upgrade to Windows 10 for free line, that offer isn't available anymore as far as I am aware, unless MS extended it.

How to update your MAME ROMset to a newer version with CLRmamepro
Lordmonkus replied to SentaiBrad's topic in Emulation
I bit the bullet today and decided to try and use clrmamepro to update my 177 rom set to 178 because apparently now the Capcom CPS2 roms requires a .key file. I have tried to use clrmamepro in the past but just gave up because it is such a pain in the ass. CriticalCid has a great and in depth tutorial here and really is awesome but if you are newer to the whole thing and want a simpler and easier to follow tutorial I recommend giving this one a try http://www.cphsolutions.f2s.com/guides/cmprotutorial.htm It's done in a step by step video which pauses itself til you are ready for the next step. I followed this and it worked out perfectly. -
What version of Mame are you using ? Pre 172 HLSL was shit looking and the 177 version now has BGFX which is better again. But then again if you don't like scanlines or the crt look then you probably won't like that either.
-
Good to know that 178 adds another file to be needed with these games. 177 still works fine with the older rom sets though.
-
Are you running through RocketLauncher ? Also do you have integer scaling on or off ? If it's on it may be causing issues. I can change aspect ratios without problems but I also don't ever anything other than "core provided".
-
Usually its the qsound.zip file.
-
Mames new BGFX really advances HLSL to be way better than it ever was.
-
I generally prefer core provided but 4:3 is fine as well. If you want to stretch it to fill a 16:9 display then set it to 16:9. Personally I don't like to stretch it at all, I prefer the natural intended look. If your Netsopia core is full screen filling out to the sides then that core is set to a 16:9 or 16:10 display.
-
That would be in the video settings, change it by changing the aspect ratio.

Wow, I was away for a couple of days and I miss out on this. Going a little over board here on a simple front end for video games aren't we ? I was going to rant all over this but you know what ? I simply don't care. If you feel Jasons extremely minor and very discreet bible quotes are that offensive then you got some issues, get over it. For the record, I am extremely anti religion and I mean I despise it big time but what Jason has been very discrete about slipping a few quotes in here and there which is fine by my standards. As long as I don't see popups and a little Bonzi Buddy in the bottom corner of my screen quoting bible stuff then we're good to go. Locking this thread before it goes any further with needless non emulation and Launchbox related stuff.

1. Full screen is in the video settings. You may or may not have to do it for each core if you turned on per core settings when you first started to set it up. 2. There are a lot of different scanline shaders, the presets are located in the CRT folder. 3. You should be able to. I can use my controller or keyboard to navigate Retroarch. Retroarch is a little more work to get used to the UI and everything that it does but because it does so much stuff the UI bloat is a necessary evil. Once you get the hang of it it will make sense and become easy.
-
Glad it was useful and helped out. One thing you could do is have an install of MameUI and go through the games and take notes of the games you want to pull out. I have done this in the past.
-
Yeah the GPU will drive the internal resolution scaling and other graphical effects like anti aliasing, anisotropic filtering and stuff like that. If you just leave things the normal internal game resolution and those other effects off the GPU won't be under much load. The GPU also comes into effect in things like Retroarch or Mame when you add on shader effects.
-
No, no need to remove it, It's good to have it here in the thread I just meant it as I left out talking about those settings for the purpose of my n00b tutorial.
-
cool, yeah occasionally cue sheets can be bad and have messed up names in them.
-
I have a 2 monitor setup and Mame has always defaulted to the main monitor. Multi monitor display stuff is also what I would call the more advanced stuff and I just wanted to keep this tutorial for new people to Mame to get it up and running. People should also take the time to read the manual / documentation that most if not all emulators come with. I have edited the original post with a link to the official Mame manual.
-
Yeah you don't need to mount to run the game but to possibly fix the game you would need to mount and "re-rip" the game into cue + bin. Images that are cue + iso may not work, generally they need to be cue + bin. Your image shows cue + iso and it is different.
-
Yeah the one with the wav files will most definitely not work. Generally you need cue + bin. I would suggest either trying to find a copy that is just cue + bin. One work around that could possibly work is to mount either of the disk images with Daemon Tools Lite (Virtual Clone Drive may work too) and try and re generate a new cue + bin using something like ImgBurn. I have not tried doing this to fix TG CD games, but it has worked for Saturn games.

That's weird too, Launchbod shouldn't be spitting errors if it's just a bad rom. It should just load Mame like normal and Mame would spit it's error messages at you.
-
Ok, well if you got other weird messages then you got something really messed up happening.
-
It shouldn't be the same text for every game. Either you are getting messages saying you are missing a rom that Mame expects to find for that rom and that may be the same for several games if they are of the same main board family. Another messages that can come up would be the message that is either red or yellow telling you that the game you are loading is not 100% emulated and you may encounter problems. Another is the games information like resolution and refresh rate and that can be disabled in in the mame.ini, look for skip_gameinfo and set it to 1. The last is the stupid nag screen which can only be disabled in 3 ways: 1) Compile your own mame.exe with the nag screens diabled. 2) Download one already compiled with them turned off, the hyperspin site is usually somewhat up to date with the pre compiled exe with nag screens turned off though it usually takes a few days to catch up to the latest after a new release like right now with 178. 3) the last way is to use GrooveyMame which lets you disable the nag screen with a couple of lines in the mame.ini.
