  1. I pre-ordered it on GoG and they got a 30 day money back thing so if it's really bad it can be refunded. I'm excited for this game, I like Elite Dangerous a lot but some of it's limitations like the always online requirement's and the DLCs were off-putting. Basically it's a giant survival-exploration in space game with a truly unknown universe to explore since it is all generated by the computer so no one really knows what we are going to find in the 18 quintillion star systems in the game. It's as close as were gonna get for now to exploring the universe.
  2. Launchbox shouldn't have affected your save games. Did you change emulators ?
  3. Launchbox lets you choose your cores. You just go into Manage Emulators, then go to Retroarch and edit. This will bring up window and go to the middle tab which is Associated Platforms and there you can set the exact core you wish to use. For example the Super Nintendo platform for me has: -L "cores\bsnes_mercury_accuracy_libretro.dll" If you want to use a different core, just make sure you have the core you want downloaded in your Retroarch/cores folder and change the line accordingly. I wouldn't wait til 1.3.7 either, now is a good a time as any to jump in and get it all set up.
  4. I have no clue how well they would transfer over, I thought about trying it out but I got sidetracked with other tinkering, lol. Again keeping in mind that my knowledge and use of DOSbox is so extremely minimal everything I say is just from my very short personal use of it which is nothing more than just tinkering for the sake of tinkering. But I do think much like the Yabause core within Retroarch there is a certain amount of performance hit that stand alone just doesn't have. When I loaded games using just normal DOSbox there was no tweaking of settings to get games running smooth whereas in RA DOSbox there was immediate stuttering and frame issues that needed to be tweaked out.
  5. Yeah it's a lot of work and DOSbox is not something I ever spend any time with so all the tweaking is way out of my realm. I just wanted to share a way to actually get this core working because much like MESS in Retroarch there is very little in the way of proper documentation and getting things running. Proper DOSbox and just forgoing any shader goodness is still probably the best way to do it. Though Eye of the Beholder did look pretty cool with the VGA monitor shader from the Analog Shader Pack that was just released.
  6. My next questions at this point would be: A) Do games load fine just through Retroarch itself ? and B) Do games launch with other emulators in Launchbox ?
  7. Yeah I can hardly wait for a Retroarch core for this to come out but and SSF is still very good once you put in the time setting it up with mounting disk images but this emulator is now my daily driver for Saturn emulation. It really is that good already and with some scaling and scanline effects it makes the games look better than SSF. Retroarch shaders will be awesome though. I can certainly understand not wanting to make the switch after putting in the work with SSF though.
  8. Alright, good luck with the backup but I am positive it is a simple setting in your LB and an easy fix, just a matter of finding it.
  9. You can try that or just to be safe just move them into a temporary folder in case that doesn't work. But if games will launch just through RA without using LB I am more inclined to believe the problem is somewhere in your LB setup.
  10. For the systems that do not work check in LB in the Associated Platforms window and just make sure that in the Default Command-Line Parameters column it is just -L "cores\mednafen_ngp_libretro.dll" and nothing else there. If it just that and still doesn't work go into your Retroarch folder, then configs folder and delete the .cfg files for the cores giving you problems.
  11. You can load a game straight through RA by loading RA and using your controller to navigate its menu system. Load a core and then load content and navigate to a rom file for that core. Since it's for all cores in through LB I am thinking you messed up something in your LB config though. If it was just NeoGeo I was going to suggest deleting the core cfg file but I really don't think it is that. Can you post a screen shot of where you were adding in the -c command for your config ? I will check out Brads video on the NeoGeo pocket and see where you might have gone wrong.
  12. Does Retroarch work without going through Launchbox ? and is it just for NeoGeo or all RA cores ?
  13. So my crazy bug up my ass tinker project of the night was getting Retroarch DOSbox working because of shaders. Yeah this is probably not the best way to do DOSbox but anyways here is how you get it up and running. ***This is just a basic tutorial to get games up and running, nothing super fancy here*** 1) Make sure the game you are wanting to play this way works in the standard DOSbox first just to confirm it does indeed work. 2) In your Retroarch/system folder create a folder called dosbox 3) Now comes the tricky part but you need to get Retroarch to generate a dosbox-libretro.conf file in the dosbox folder you created in step 2. To do this load up RA > Load Core > DOSbox, then load content and browse to one of your DOS games and load up the exe you would run to start a game. The game I would recommend for this is the old game Zork and the reason for this is it will load up perfectly fine and then in game you can just type "q" and then Enter and it will kick you back out into the DOSbox dosprompt (you are still in DOSbox at this point). Now type in the command: config -wcd This should generate the dosbox-libretro.conf in your /retroarch/system/dosbox folder. 4) Copy this file to the folder of each of your dos games you wish to run through RA DOSbox. This is going to be the file you will import into Launchbox to run the game. Rename each of these .conf files you copied to each game folder to something easy to keep track of. For example I will use the game Eye of the Beholder which I have in a folder simply called EotB, I name the .conf file to eotb.conf. The name of the .conf file is probably irrelevant but I name them just so I know exactly what they are. 5) Each of these .conf files you will open in notepad and go to the bottom and paste in the following code [cpu] cycles=30000 [autoexec] @echo off mount d E:\DOS\eotb d: start This code is an example and you will have to edit "E:\DOS\eotb" so it is pointing to the game folder of the game you have the specific .conf file in. The line at the end with the word "start" you will have to rename to the actual file you run for the game so if the game was Duke Nukem 3D for example start would be replaced with duke3d.exe. Now if everything went right when you launch the game through Launchbox it should load up like a normal DOS game but it may or may not be running great and you may have some audio static. The best settings I found to fix this was to bring up the RA Quick Menu and go to Options, change the Machine type to svga_s3. Then below that you will see 4 entries of CPU Cycles X according to the Wiki these settings "allow fine control of the desired CPU cycles. Setting this too low may cause slow gameplay, setting this too high might cause sound crackling and bad performance." I had the best result from my quick testing (and I do mean quick) with setting the x10000 to 3. The combination of the svga_s3 and CPU cycle 10000x3 gave me perfect speed and no audio crackling. This may need to be adjusted on a game to game basis. Now you should be able to apply some fancy shaders to your DOS games and enjoy. Hope this helps someone get this up and running. It is by no means a definitive guide to Retroarch and DOSbox but it should get you over the first hurdle of actually getting games working.
  14. Anyone else picking up this game ? http://www.no-mans-sky.com/news/ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D-uMFHoF8VA
  15. Too bad Nintendo have DMCA'd this and is no longer on their site so now if anyone wants it they have to look around for it. If anyone is looking and can't find it send me a PM and I will help out.
  16. I always have integer scale on but I also have a 1440 monitor so the bars on the top and bottom are very small compared to a 1080 monitor. I turned integer scale on out of habit from previous scanline shaders looking weird so now it's just on all the time. Kurozumi is tough to beat especially at higher resolutions (1400 and up). @1080 though other shaders will (again depending on personal preference) look better.
  17. I am fairly certain you will need to download manually and put the "Analog Shader Pack version 3" folder with all its contents in the "shaders\shaders_cg\" folder. This is what I have done and it works for me. Then you can navigate to \shaders_cg\Analog Shader Pack subfolder and browse for the presets.
  18. Yeah very subjective. I really like Wega RGB but it feels a bit "dark" (feels like the contrast is a tad high) but I am giving a good try though to see if I can get used to it. Kurozumi is still my favourite but maybe I will switch.
  19. Yeah for sure there are some minor problems here and there but after some more extensive testing I am even more amazed at the quality of this emulator for being just the first "experimental" release. 37 games now in my Saturn collection and they all work minus the 2 Cotton games which I know is just my rips being bad and Astal which crashes after about a minute. Almost every game works nearly flawless or with very minor graphical glitches. From my experience this is already better than Yabause by a huge margin and (again from my personal experience) is better than SSF. Hopefully we get a first Retroarch core for it soon but for now I am extremely happy with this and it's only going to get better.
  20. 1) Not when Launchbox is updated. I think I just misunderstood your question. I thought you meant for new downloads of emulators. 2) Retroarch cores are not automatically updated, You use the "Online Updater" within Retroarch to download cores and it will download whatever the latest one is, even if it is the same version as the one you already have. I wish Retroarch had an easier way to tell if there was a new version of a core available but sadly there isn't an easy way. The only way I know of is to just go to the Retroarch homepage and click at the top where it says "Nightlies" and browse through to the platform you are on and operating system version and then "latest". There you will see all the cores and the date they were last updated. Not the best way of doing it I know but is the only way I know of.
  21. How to make a downloaded dump of game with mp3 (and possibly wav files) work in Mednafen. I downloaded a dump of a game and it came with a whole bunch of mp3 audio tracks along with the cue & iso. Naturally Mednafen did not like this setup but SSF did so I set out to see if I could fix this because I could not find a proper dump. The first thing I did was convert the mp3s into wav using the Foobar audio player (then deleted the mp3s). Second I mounted the cue sheet with Daemon Tools Lite. Third I opened ImgBurn and selected "Create Image From Disk" and pointed it at the mounted game. I told it to out put to a bin file and it created the cue + bin. This was now in a usable form for Mednafen. There may be a shorter easier way to do this but this is the way that worked for me :)
  22. Glad it worked for you, though I still cannot get a working version of Cotton 2 or Cotton Boomerang. Using cdmage gets Boomerang to the Sega logo but freezes there. Not sure how much more effort I care to put into it since I have the Mame versions anyways. Cdmage worked on my copy of Clockwork Knight 2 which was an NA region.
  23. 1) That will depend on the emulator and the extent of the update. 2) Generally you can just make a new install of Retroarch and copy over your system and configs folders but like answer #1 that will depend on the extent of the update to Retroarch and the cores. Sometimes they change how certain things are done. Generally when I get a new emulator version I will make a new folder for it and play with it to make sure it is all working properly before telling Launchbox to use it for the platform. After setting up Retroarch or any other emulator a couple of times it doesn't take much time to get a new version up to speed and the settings you like.
  24. Here's a tip I just picked up on thanks to a person over on the reddit thread. Could save you some redownloading. Do a google search for "cdmage 1.2.1 B5", I downloaded the version from emuparadise. Run it and drag the cue sheet for the game that isn't working for you, let it do its thing for a second. Then select File > Save as and generate a new cue / bin. This new version of the game should work most of the time. It repaired all my non working games except for Cotton 2 and Cotton Boomerang. Boomerang will let me get to the Sega logo and freeze but Cotton 2 still doesn't load. Not sure if there is something else I can do yet. I know Panzer Dragoon Saga and Radiant Silvergun work, don't have any of the other games you listed as not working for you.
