@Jason I have a bit of good news with my videos not starting back automatically after exiting a game with rocketlauncher. After Jazzphone was stating that his RL and BB setup his videos would start back up as long the loading game message was enabled in options. However on my setup my videos would still not start back with that option enabled. The problem was something in my Rocketlauncher must have been corrupt even though everything seemed normal. I downloaded a fresh copy of RL and set everything back up exactly how I had it in my previous setup with the same settings and now my videos start back up automatically using RL. I still have to make sure the loading game message option is checked in order for the videos to start back automatically but that is fine for now until you get a chance to fix the bug of having to have that option enabled in order to get the videos to start back automatically. So it turns out it really had nothing to do with RL other than something was corrupt in my RL folder. That was definitely a head scratcher especially when everything else seemed normal even with other frontends.

Meet Kirsten, the newest member to the LaunchBox team

Welcome aboard...we have a great community here! -
Jason Carr said Hi guys, unfortunately I think we're going to have to wait until after the 6.3 release to tackle these Rocket Launcher issues. I'm hoping to put out 6.3 before the end of the week and still have a number of other bugs to resolve. That said, I do want to tackle this stuff. The issue is that Big Box waits for the EXE that it's running to close, and then expects that the game is closed when that EXE returns. It looks like Rocket Launcher doesn't work that way; I'm not really sure yet how I'll solve that but we'll figure it out one way or another. I understand...we can wait a little longer on the RL issues,we def need to get all this bugs ironed out first for the 6.3 release.

knewlife said I don't know if it was already mentioned but for those with problems with Rocketlauncher + BigBox I did this and works fine (I don't use Game Videos, just screenshots): Update RL to the last version. In RocketlauncherUI create a new Front end in RLUI settings: Name Launchbox, path Your bigbox.exe path (no launchbox.exe), Plugins Launchbox In RocketlauncherUI, Main Settings: Set Hidefrontend an SUspend frontend options to True. Restorefront end False. In Launchbox, all your emulator CMD lines for RL have to look like this: -f "..\..\LaunchBox\BigBox.exe" -p "LaunchBox" -s "American Laser Games" -r Rocektlauncher takes a long time to load (compared when using with Hyperspin) because of the many checks needed to find all LB media. During this time BigBox will operate normally (until the RL fade screen appears) because I suppose BigBox expects that the launched application take the focus and return it to Bigbox just once tha game/app as been closed. RL don't do this right away... hope there is some mode to make BIgBox "Know" when ROcketlauncher is running and act acordingly. Yes I have all those same settings but those are not working for game videos starting back automatically. You are definitely correct on rocketlauncher takes longer to load because the plugin is looking for the Launchbox media and then you combine that with loading shaders from retroarch and rocketlauncher bezels it takes a couple of seconds longer for rocketlauncher to come into focus. Its not a lot longer to load we are just talking about maybe 2 seconds more. Launching games through LaunchBox with Rocketlauncher, everything works as expected, just having some focus issues with BigBox. I think the way Jason has BigBox setup is to have BigBox perform a screen refresh when you exit a game to get the video to start back up. As you could tell in my video I think BigBox did a screen refresh before rocketlauncher even got started because RL takes a couple more seconds to load. He said today on the live stream he would be taking a look at this.

@Jason I just downloaded a fresh copy of Launchbox for some test and here are my findings with the video issue: In the test copy I am not even using Rocketlauncher and just using Retroarch as an emulator and my game videos still did not start back automatically when exiting a game until I did one thing. I enabled the option in BB to Display the "Loading Game" message and then the videos started back automatically when exiting a game. But even with this option enabled while using Rocketlauncher the videos do not start back. I am wondering on your setup if you disable that option for the "Loading Game" message will your videos start back automatically after exiting a game? @Jazzphone Thanks for confiming this with the Loading Game message option checked, strange that even with this option checked in my setup with rocketlauncher my vids still do not start back. But either way its some kind of focus issue.

Jazzphone said kmoney2315 said Jason Carr said No problem @shinra358, thanks for clarifying. :) @kmoney2315, that's odd. In the video it looks like window focus isn't properly returning to Big Box after the game exits. The start menu is showing up over top of Big Box which isn't typical and should be avoidable if focus is properly returned. It probably does have something to do with Rocket Launcher; I'm gonna have to get a good setup of RL going in order to address that. Are you using the latest version of RL now with the LaunchBox plugin? I am using the new plugin for Rocketlauncher and I did notice that the start menu popped up over BB. The start menu doesnt pop up every time but it did happen in this video but the video doesnt start back automatically either way. I have been using Rocketlauncher for years and with the new Launchbox plugin it makes it even easier for new users to use RL with LB. Watching your livestream and seeing your videos start back automatically I noticed one thing with your setup is when you press the button to enter the game the video paused immediately and the game started. My setup when I press the button to enter the game my video continued on for a second and actually did a full transition to a screenshot and then the game started. So maybe its something like Rocketlaucher takes a second or so more time to start to enter a game and then when you exit a game it takes a second or so more time to regain back focus of the frontend. Do you have issues with auditing your games with the new RL plugin in RocketLauncher? It seems to be sticking to the first system I audit for all systems. Yes I am seeing that as well with the game audits. Hopefully the RL guys are taking a look at it. Are you having any issues that I mentioned above when using RL with BigBox with the game videos not starting back automatically when exiting a game?

Jason Carr said kmoney2315 said My dream has finally come true....platform videos!!!! Great job Jason....they look great! Using windows media player when you enter a platform from the wheels view while a platform video is playing and then exit back into the platform wheels view the video starts back automatically which is great! The issue I am still having is the game videos do not start back automatically when you exit a game until you select another game. Instead of the video starting back when I exit a game, a screenshot will appear that is in my image folder. @kmoney2315 Just fixed this in the live dev stream. Beta isn't out quite yet though. :) @Jason I watched the latest live stream on youtube and I really appreciate you looking into this issue and I see that it is working fine on your system but unfortunatly the game videos are still not starting back for me automatically when exiting a game with VLC or WMP in the newest beta.Maybe it is because I use Rocketlauncher and it is taking focus away from the video. I have tried several frontends in the past and have never had a problem with RL when exiting a game and the video starting back. I would also be interested to know if others are having this same issue especially those who use Rocketlauncher. Here is a vid showing my issue. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hQwkCzmIpjQ

I found a new bug in the newest beta: In BigBox with Windows Media Player chosen, the platform videos show the correct aspect ratios for 4:3 and 16:9 but the game videos do not. They stay the same aspect ratio and do not change for vertical and horizontal game videos in for instance the "Arcade" platform games list. However I tried out the VLC option and the aspect ratios seem to be correct for vertical and horizontal games. Also I created a ticket in Bitbucket.
-
That is a bug in VLC. If you switch over to using windows media player the platform videos will start back playing automatically when returning back from the game screen. Although both WMP and VLC still both have the bug where when exiting a game or when exiting back into the games list screen the videos do not start back playing as it shows an image from your images folder instead. . Hope this helps!

If you ask me I think the hq videos do not look good either from emumovies when stretched out to fullscreen. I think all the videos from emumovies have a maximum of 480P quality which doesnt look that good when stretched out to fullscreen and using on a 1080p monitor. If we could maybe figure out how to put some kind of scanline overlay over them, they probally would look much better. Either that or we are going to have to make our own 1080p platform videos to look good in fullscreen but even then I think we need a scanline overlay over the videos.

I updated to the latest beta and when I try to import some games and call the platform a custom name, the scrape as does not automatically pop up. I have to uncheck the " show default platforms" box to get scrape as to pop up after I have already typed the custom platform name. If I go ahead and uncheck the "show default platforms" box before I type in the custom platform name the scrape as does not automatically pop up either until I check the show default platforms box and uncheck it again.

Antropus said kmoney2315 said I was wondering if there was a way to properly import the Sega Model 2 games only into its own platform with this tool? Yes you can! 1) Close LaunchBox 2) Set all your filters and please remember to check "Not-working" as well. You need to do this because Sega Model 2 games are not playable in MAME yet (or are they? Not sure about changes in the latest versions). 3) Go to the Platform Tab and uncheck all checkboxes, then check ONLY the one below "Platform from Driver". Keep "Lock Emulator" checked as well. 4) From the dropdown menu right by "Platform from Driver", select "model2.cpp". A name will be populated "Model2". This is the name of the desired platform, so change it as you wish. 5) Under Export, click "Filter!". You should now see only Sega Model 2 games listed. 6) Select Launchbox for the Format to be exported and verify if the path to your launchbox.xml is correct. 7) Click "Go!". 8) Re-open Launchbox and you should see a new platform containing all Sega Model 2 games. If by any chance the list is not populated when you hit "Filter!", try changing some filters, as some might be preventing those games from showing up. -Kris Thanks so much..that worked like a charm. You really have such an awesome tool here and we are all very fortunate that you developed this and let the community use it!

DOS76 said Every time I update LB which is frequently on multiple computers I get an error message about LB currently running From observing this over and over I think that the update installer tries to start before LB has a chance to close so you get this message if you hit ok fast enough you can get the message to pop of numerous times sometimes but if you pause for a second or two it will only appear once. Is there anyway you could add a small delay to when the installer begins after the update is done downloading through LB and give it time to close LB before running. Do other users experience this? For me it happens across all computers and all LB instances. Yes this error has been happening to me also in the last 5 or so betas.

@Jason I did another test on the image priorties in BigBox and switched to all the different game views in BB and my 3D Front Box images that I have set as a priority show in every view except the game wheels view as it just shows the flat front box images. Thats why I was not seeing them before because I use the game wheels view as my default. So every view is working correctly but the game wheels view.

SentaiBrad said Did you clear the BigBox cache in the options @kmoney2315? Yes, several times. I cleared it in Launchbox and BigBox.

imdavid555 said kmoney2315 said The new image priorities seem to be working good in Launchbox. I wanted to ask if this was going to be implemented into BigBox soon also? As it stands right now I have to put my 3D front boxart in the Box Front folder in order to get it to display. If not I can continue to do this, but I was wanted to ask before I start moving all my 3D front box images all around as I prefer the 3D boxart on most platforms. Those image priority settings not only effect launchbox, but also BigBox. They seemed to be working correctly for me yesterday night. Were they not for you? Not on my end as it only affected Launchbox. In BigBox the front images stayed the same even after doing a image cache refresh.

I am not sure if this was introduced in the newest betas or not but I am trying to import Sega Model 2 into LB and put a checkmark in the Force MAME metadata box and it did not find any games. I even tried to trick it by importing the Sega Model 2 roms as Arcade platform then checked the Force MAME metadata box and it still did not find any games and yes all my files are named correctly.

I noticed that in the newest beta I cannot download fanart through the metadata and images bulk wizard. I erased all my fanart on a few platforms so I could start over fresh in case some new fanart had been added or changed in the database. I only put a check in the fanart box in the wizard and unchecked everything else and when the wizard had stopped parsing all the games in found no fanart in a few systems even though there is fanart for some of the games because I seen fanart on the database. You are able to get fanart through the edit game in LB for an individual game just not through the bulk wizard. I was able to get fanart a few days ago through the wizard before the newest beta.

Jason Carr said @kmoney2315, it should have kept *some* of your customized folders. For example, the folder for Box - Front should be set to your previously used folder for Front box art. Let me know if that's not the case. Unfortunately there's just too many assumptions involved if I tried to reorganize the folders outside of the LaunchBox folder. Not to mention if anyone was using the same folders for various different frontends, there could be some serious issues there. Thanks all, let me know if you run into any other issues. :) That must be what happened to me as i have all the images and vids stored in my HS media folder as I never transferred them over to LB to save on disk space. Even the front box images also stayed at the default LB image folders. Its worth it in the end anyway even if I have to re point LB To these folders again because of what you are planning for the images.?
-
I just downloaded the new beta. I keep all of my box art, wheels and videos outside of the Launchbox folder. So now I have to go back into each platform and point to these folders again as by default with the new beta it pointed to the image folders inside of Launchbox. It's not that big of a deal but I was wondering if you had considered that scenario? Thankfully I don't have many platforms inside of LB yet so it should not take me to long.

SentaiBrad said kmoney2315 said SentaiBrad said There was a similar report of this recently, but it had to do with Intel Integrated Graphics and the Anti Aliasing option being turned up to 16. Do you have some sort of system wide Anti Aliasing turned on in your Graphics Control Panel by any chance? I use a Nvidia mid end graphics card and my Anti Aliasing is application controlled. Have you tried replacing the image at all and does it come back? No I have not tried replacing any of the images and its totally random what image it may happen to. I can go for a few days and noy notice any lines and then one day it will just appear on a random platform or game clear logo. All my clear logos that I use are the ones I get from Hyperspin. Like I said its not that big of a deal and it might be a bug thats hard to track down since it is random. I just wanted to point it out to make Jason aware.
