Found a pic...

It's wired... which is my personal preference, although I know some people like wireless. I have these 2 old Hori Dreamcast fighting joysticks that I want to get a Mayflash adapter for so I can use them for MAME. Not sure if you have seen these, they are a weird green color and pretty nicely made... heavy duty. I don't think I have used them since the Dreamcast days.

I really like the "open games folder" option on the context menu... it would be even better and more convenient if it opened the window with the file on screen and highlighted so you don't have to manually search for each one. This saves a lot of time if you are looking for multiple files to delete, etc...

I want to put in a good word for the Hori Fighting Commander. I just picked one of these up at Gamestop (on clearance $30, you might check your local store if interested) and this controller has really impressed me. It's got a comfortable d-pad with angle rotation so that you can skew the d-pad to make it more natural to your hand (I was skeptical but I love it), 6 button "genesis style" so you can use it for nintendo or sega systems, turbo that you can apply to any button on the fly, 4 shoulder buttons that you can use as the shoulder 1-2 or remap (with the flick of a switch) the L3-R3 to one set of shoulder buttons if you are using the L1-R1 as the 3rd and 6th (sega) buttons, angle sensitivity switch on the d-pad (in case your diagonal shots make you crouch too much in a game you can adjust the diagonal "dead zone" on the d-pad), and Windows 8 recognized it immediately. It's worked on every emulator I have tried so far perfectly. I can see this becoming my go-to controller for all the old systems that don't need analog sticks.

DOS76 said The 76 in my user name refers to when I was born Same here! :) SentaiBrad said F1 opens the Retro Arch menu It took me forever to figure this out. You can actually see a list of the default hotkeys if you go into Settings>Input>Input Hotkey Binds. That's a helpful place to look. *edit* Also, games going really fast can be related to monitor refresh rate and vsync too. I had my refresh rate set to 144 (my monitor's cap) at one point in RA and half the cores were playing in hyperspeed so I had to set it back to 60. *edit* Just noticed lordmonkus already mentioned the Hotkey settings... sorry about that.

I used to use Kega... in fact, I remember when it was released and it was a really big deal because it was so good (probably tells you I am older... lol). I can also say that RetroArch was the ultimate nightmare of emulation for me, as far as setting everything up goes. I have to admit, though, once I got it up and running, it is really sweet. I have a love-hate relationship with it. Mostly love once I got everything set up, but I remember that rough patch we went through... haha. I'm using the Genesis Plus GX core (Except for 32x I use Pico) and it is really nice. The graphics are really smooth on games like Sonic that move quickly as compared to Kega where sometimes the background would seem a bit blurred or hard to follow. The shaders look really great and overall I just like it better. Kega was definitely a legend in its time though.

Windows 10 +Nvidia . Cumulative update . Emu Knock Out
Drybonz replied to dov_EL's topic in Troubleshooting
Oh, I see... you aren't even getting to the point where you can try to run a game. So, it is only MAME that isn't working? It might have something to do with directories... sorry I can't help more. -
I was marking some games as favorites today, and thought that it would be nice to have a heart button (or something) up by the search bar (or somewhere) that would give quick, one-click access to all our favorites. *edit* Now that I think about it... "mark as favorite" would be nice on the context menu when you right-click a game.

I would do an nvidia driver update with the option for a clean install checked right off the bat. -
I remember, back in the day, when Final Burn came out it had a huge speed advantage over MAME... but now that MAME plays these games easily at full speed is there still any advantage to using Final Burn?

slashguns04 said where I find the configuration of retroarch? The Mednafen Turbografx CD core in RA can load game images without having to use Daemon tools... just open the cue file.

I noticed that sorting titles with ":" colons is not handled properly. One example... Ultimate Air Combat is alphabetized between Ultima: Quest of the Avatar and Ultima: Warriors of Destiny.
-
On the "Arrange By" dropdown, would it be possible to add "Missing Covers" so that you could sort the games that are missing front cover art together?
-
Why am I just now finding this tool??? Thank you so much.

I was thinking when you change the platform name the only thing that would change would be what appears in LB, but it would remember the original platform name "under the hood" for importing purposes.
-
Hopefully, they will kick out a new preview that fixes it for you soon.

Derek, I had so many irritating little problems with Windows 10 that I had to go back to Windows 8, which has always worked fine for me. I know that's probably not very helpful, and don't want to turn this into a battle of the Windows thread, but I feel your pain. Win 10 was just more trouble than it was worth to me.

SentaiBrad said Did you name the platform "Super Nintendo (SNES)" ? Along these lines, it might be helpful if you could change the platform name only as it shows in the LaunchBox sidebar, etc... without it affecting the platform name for metadata and image searches and folder names for image storage, etc... I sometimes like to change the platform name so that it fits in a more narrow sidebar or groups alphabetically with other platforms... but it's a pain to have to change it back and forth so that an image search will work.

I've been tagging files since the first beta went up tonight and I'm also noticing that it needs a more exact title to get a match than the old database. Just wanted to add my observations into what was said above. *edit* Overall, after my initial *ahem* confusion, I have not noticed any problems in the tagging or pulling images with the new database or EM at this point.
-
Are the EmuMovies images back to normal? It seemed like I had a couple that said there were images available from EM but that didn't download. I'm not sure if that was before the second beta. I'll check again. *edit* I went back through on the ones that didn't pull the images and did it a second time and it all seems fine now for EmuMovies.
-
Never mind... my apologies... I thought it was going to show as "gamesDB" still in the search results. Sorry for adding confusion to your probably already stressful day! o_O

I'm saying the metadata search is not working for me.
-
Jason Carr said Drybonz said I'm checking out the new beta now, but it doesn't seem to be pulling metadata from the new LB/GamesDB server. Currently, since the database is read-only, there's no reason to retrieve metadata from the server. It's simply using the local metadata database, which has a side of effect of making everything a lot faster. Going forward we may stick to this and provide daily updated database downloads or similar because of the performance benefits. So the images are the only thing being downloaded from the server at this point, by design. If we need to tag the games with proper titles, etc so that it knows what images to pull, is there still no way to do that as of now?

Jason Carr said New beta version is out. I got sick and tired of TGDB going down so I ragequit. We're no longer reliant on TheGamesDB.net. LaunchBox is now connected to a read-only database hosted by us (based on the data from TheGamesDB.net). Awesome... sounds great. Thanks.
