Hey everyone, are there any guides or helpful posts getting Acorn ARCHIMEDES roms running? Having a heck of a time with ARCULATOR, wouldn't even open till I stuck a rom in it's own ROMS folder, and found Acorn Archimedes RISC OS Application Suite v1.00 (19xx)(Acorn)(Disk 1 of 2) (and part 2) from TOSEC collection and I put that in the Arculator\ROMS\RISCOS2 folder, now the program opens at least, but when choosing to load a DISC (into 0 or 1 or anything of them) it just stays on a BLACK screen....
Anyone have success setting this up, willing to help? Really try to be a completionist with my collection and this one is proving to be painful, LOL -

Try pressing scroll lock which hopefully will toggle keyboard modes, then see if tab works.
That restored the MAME menu, thank you! I noticed C button shoots in space invaders, but I can't figure the rest out easily...the controls in the options are all weird (see image attached), the left column shows letter and symbols, the right the key assigned...never saw MAME controls look like that before....gonna be fun to figure this out....any easier way?

Hey guys, I got the games I have in LB to launch MAME64.exe with these games, but none of my controls are working, and the TAB key doesn't work like it normally would in MAME to bring up control and other options? What else can I do to set these up? Thanks.

That is indeed a good thing, especially if you prefer merged rom sets (like Goodmerged). Because it handles them in the same way MAME handles parent roms. You just see the parent rom as the default and you can press [+] to have access to all the different versions of the rom inside (different regions, versions, prototypes and betas, translations, hacks, etc). So you have absolutely everything, but it's still very organized, clean and without any clutter. And without having millions of little files stored in your hard drive since all different versions of a game are zipped in their parent archive. That means only one archive/file per title. So you save HDD space as well.
As a completionist who wants to have access to everything and likes testing different versions, regions, etc this MAME like environment is the reason i stuck with this program for so many years. I wonder if something like this is possible in LB as well, merging different regions, etc, into one parent rom and then right clicking to play which version you want. Kinda like how it merges the multiple CD games.
Yes it tries to do that already...if the name matches (it ignores parenthesis differences, but looks at file name), during import, and you can also manually do so by highlighting what you want merged and choosing to COMBINE the games...it then asks you which one is the MAIN game to display in LB...

I can't seem to find Don's ROM RENAMER (link aren't working?), I remember it from my Hysperspin days...anyone have the latest version?

No-intro all the way mate. they are usually named "gamename"(USA).rom
Agreed...I have many of their sets, but also have renamed others to follow that naming convention (or loosely)...
What software can I use to scan a folder and organize them in bulk?

are you in need of further assistance?
Thanks, not sure yet...have not been able to try it yet :-)

Thanks Jason, but I may not need to do this now...I appeared to have fixed it! YES! (if it happens again, I certainly will though, thank you)
I did these steps.... (note #1 and #2 was not sufficient by itself to fix this, and neither was #5 by itself...I tried these alone and it still failed)
1. Deleted all the XML's referencing 'nintendo super nintendo entertainment system', and all entries of it in platform.xml
2. Delete the entries in launchbox for this (not the actual roms, just the platform entry)
3. Deleted all the XML's referencing ' super nintendo entertainment system', and all entires of it in platform.xml
4. Delete the entries in launchbox for this (not the actual roms , just the platform entry)
5. Replaced platform.xml with an older one.
So basically nuked EVERYTHING to do with super Nintendo or the old/bad entry and then when it didn't exist in LB, reimported the proper SNES folder, creating the platform by typing it in manually since it wasn't on the list to select uring the import wizard...seems normal now and the bad platform is gone! Thank God!

^ Same thing with me, I have an SSD as my main OS drive, although my LB is on a 8TB external USB 3 drive, connected via USB 3....(too large for a SSD...I wish...), 8GB of RAM, Core i5 3.4ghz DESKTOP..

Wow, crazy issue. We have seen some issues with deleting platforms in the past but I haven't seen them pop up in quite a while. Generally, in order to delete a platform, you have to remove all instances of the platform from the Platforms.xml file as well as delete the platform's games file from the Data\Platforms subfolder. It's possible that somehow the platform name is still being referred to in an XML file under the Platforms folder, even if the file name doesn't match. That would be my best guess here.
However, finding the issue that caused it...ugh...
@Jason Carr - sorry to bother you with this again....anything else I can do besides starting over? I want to nuke this platform, and just can't seem to do it...thanks.

What about the backup files? Maybe Launchbox uses them in some way to restore missing platforms if you broke a xml by editing a tag out or something.
Tried that too...wiped all backups out, and deleted all instances of folders and also entries in XML files...
Still comes back.... When I right click a game in this platform and do OPEN game it opens up my actual game folder in Launchbox\games\super nintendo entertainment system
But when I do the same thing for OPEN IMAGES...it opens up the mostly blank (just a few sub-folders in it) in the path: Launchbox\games\nintendo super nintendo entertainment system
No matter what I do, this rogue folder keeps getting created shortly after I delete it... -

To confirm, I've renamed, deleted, altered every instance of the offending name in XML files......also removed, deleted inside of launchbox every instance of the platform or reference in emulators, in platform EDIT (paths to images, games, etc), in manage platforms, etc..tried also deleted all game entires in it except one to keep the playform visible...renamed the platform only, restarted...nothing...
No matter what I do the same 970 games (all us snes games (and lots of super famicom games) come back into this platform each time I restart launchbox...I'm cursed! -
correction the entries are still missing from the platforms.XML thanks to the write only, I took that off and opened the XML and they are still gone..but still came up in LB...I'm totally perplexed, well goodnight and thanks again for trying!
-
something is putting this old named SNES list BACK into my playlists.xml during/upon every launch of the program, I delete save it, open LB, open the XML and it's back...I even deleted the entries, made it WRITE ONLY...and it STILL DOES IT, just gives me a write permission error in LB when I click the platform to do to it, LOL!
Thanks...I'm at my wits end. -
(slams head against desk in defeat)

I tried removing every instance of the path: "Nintendo Super Nintendo Entertainment System" from the platforms.XML file, carefully using notepad++ in launchbox\data\ and there were quite a few entries, I got them all..opened Launchbox...
SAME ISSUE -
Import finished. I have the games in the category I wanted now (the default) named one, it is using the correct named images/games path and that is good.
But guess what platform is back too? Yup, it's like a cancer...I can't just get rid of it... -

Something very weird is going on with your setup then.
Agreed, I just wish I knew how to KILL this platform in FIRE and start over with it!
-
re-importing now with manually typed Super Nintendo entertainment system platform during import wizard...we will see...

Did you select all the games in the platform in Launchbox and delete them ?
Yes many times...they go away, even chose delete roms when I do (of course moving roms before I do that) then on re-open the entries are back.
-
Even after LB reinstall, Super Nintendo Entertainment System
still does not appear in the import wizard dialog of options...I have to type it in, yet every other platform on planet earth does...
-
LOL I reinstalled LB to the same path, and it opens again with (Nintendo Super Nintendo Entertainment System
as a platform on the left with 970 (empty) game entries, full covers and all. Going to try your manual import and see what happens....but I have to get rid of this platform either way... -
Will that make launchbox stop re-creating these folders I don't want called (Nintendo Super Nintendo Entertainment System) in IMAGES, MANUALS, MUSIC, GAMES, and VIDEOS that keep getting created over and over, no matter how many times I delete them? I don't get why this happens when there is no XML file anymore...
-
I can't re-import my roms like I normally would because it's not letting me choose "Super Nintendo Entertainment System' as the platform during the import wizard...it's totally missing as a system to choose...
