The whole cache-related image content are reset! HELP
syntax_X replied to ww97's topic in Troubleshooting
Best to name it what LB wants it so it won't be rescraped. My dos collection has titles in it that are not in the LB data base, but I have images for all of them and they work. If I search LB DB for game info these get scraped into the closest thing LB can find and stuffs it all up. I end up with different named rom files being seen as the same game in LB ect. -

It's more sound advice to name the rom correctly in no-intro style. If you incorrectly name a rom and add some incorrectly names images sure it works when you hit refresh, but what happens next time your searching metadata on that platform and choose to look through the LB database for game info? Games get scraped into whatever lb feels the game should be called and then downloads new images for said game. If you don't name them correct then don't ever search for meta or backup and replace your xml for that platform each time -

Your images or roms will be named incorrectly. I just refreshed my Genesis collection to have matching front and back covers from 3 packages at emumovies, and launchbox had no problem linking them to my romset. Everything needs to be named in a No-Intro format. (Mega drive cases mixed with Genesis was shitting me hard) -
Consolidated games lose their additional app?
syntax_X replied to syntax_X's topic in Troubleshooting
I just tried to reimport 2 titles that consolidate, I added an additional app to both, consolidated them, now 1 wont run the additional app and the other open 2 versions of it lol.... -
So when you consolidate games the other versions become additional apps, but looking through the xml I see that they lose their own additional app properties and the "parent" rom although still having a functional additional app wont transfer this over when you go to play them. In short its impossible to make an additional app for a consolidated title......

I noticed if you change those file names that the Mame playlist creator will not scrape them into CPS3. Must go off file names not game name. Or maybe because they are looked at as clones.
-
Red earth is the only one without a no-cd version (that currently works) so I just start it, hit F10 or 12 to fastforward till its loaded then check the Mame NVRam and make that file read only.

I also had problems yesterday, I thought it was the underscore in my custom ID so I removed it and everything worked, but I'm stubborn so I changed it back and....it.... worked. I blame Steam.

I deleted and filled the cache in BB about 3 releases ago, on high quality image settings in BB, which totalled around 80 gig. This week I did the same with the current beta on medium image quality settings in BB and the cache is around 20 gig. Then after playing for a day or 2 that 20 gig fresh forced cache is now 60 gig... I have no idea how this cache thing works hey... I build my caches by deleting the cache, loading LB and choosing platform ALL, refresh all images and waiting till the cache is full in LB (verified by scrolling and all images loaded, and my HDD stops sounding like a grinder) before loading BB, refreshing all images and doing the 2 force populates. So how did my cache grow 30+ gig in a day after apparently loading the entire collection into it?

I think a lot of people see products like the retropie and automatically assume setting up LB on their pc will give the same experience, but they don't realise that every emulator and the entire OS was built around using those units to game on. Hardware wise every unit is basically the same, they will perform the same, compatibility will be the same ect. Then you have LB going out on thousands of uniquely built computers with different OS. I have 2 systems running the same copy of windows 10 and I can tell you now they both do random different stuff to me all the time, one would think it would be exactly the same....... In reality there's a big difference in the quality of gaming between a built pc running LB and some tiny Arduino running a Linux based frontend. Load times, image quality ect. These things send me crazy on the smaller units. But when you can build one for $80 why not hey? Because they suck, Ive been there, Emulating on an NUC unit was even worse. If you like choppy frame rates go for it. Personally I have a decent gaming rig in another room and wanted to build a media/emulator centre that would still be able to play current games at close to 60fps (PUBg 40fps). It was important for me that the hardware for this could dual boot xp so I could run 95/dos games natively but in the end everything's working on 10. If I could I would probably upgrade the GPU before I drop more ram in it but to me this is the smallest/cheapest system I would run Launchbox on when emulating past PS1/N64 Windows 10 64-bit i5 3570 3.4/3.8 Ghz 8 Gigs ram Nvidia GTX750ti I don't think any of that is available new anymore If your going any smaller just get a retropie unit and call it a day, under $80 AUD to build your own unit.

If you find a bad image browse to it in bigbox mode or view images in LB before you do a clean to check if its the culprit. -
BigBox Performance and How to Make it Better
syntax_X replied to Lordmonkus's topic in Troubleshooting
I've found that platforms with large collections make BB lag. My N64 collection with under 1000 roms runs super smooth but MS-DOS with over 5200 stutters when scrolling even with a forced cache. Windows 10 64-bit i5 3570 3.4/3.8 Ghz 8 Gigs ram Nvidia GTX750ti -

I've found that windows search feature doesn't work properly on large folders, and sometimes will take a long time to load. If it works it works though. Personally i used this program, it has a 30 day free trial but seems to have full features. https://www.xyplorer.com/ You can use it to do a search for size of atmost 1 byte, then all you will get is 0 byte files show up. 3 seconds to scan 300,000 images... Its the fastest program I've ever used for this type of thing. You will have to delete or refresh your cache to be sure the system is not trying to load the cached version of your 0byte images after cleaning. Im unsure if the same thing happens with video or music files as all mine were fine. -
Well its not really a leak, LaunchBox just thinks that the system is out of ram and closes if you try to view a corrupt 0byte image, and if Bigbox tries to load a 0byte image file it will also crash. Should make the cleanup tool also delete any 0byte files to avoid this. Checked my folders, deleted 5 0byte files, now no crashes. corrupt images.zip (Gameboy clear logos)

And miss the opportunity to piece this together like Ultra Magnus? NEVER! Yeah there's no way I have enough time to code something to export Meagre to LB. All I did was export to LB 4.5 which renamed to image folders to something I could work with. It is missing the txt files though which kinda sucks.

Just spent the afternoon renaming all the images that come with eXoDOS 2.0 to be compatible with Launchbox 7+ There's a link to download them in the above tutorial.

Tutorial now includes the entire eXoDOS 2.0 image collection!

Mageslayer needs dos prompt but incompatable with dosbox
syntax_X replied to heartofdestany's topic in DOSBox
Maybe just use d-fend, its the one that has Version 0.5.0 (08/22/2008) Now you can setup if the DOSBox console should stay open when an error in DOSBox occures. http://dfendreloaded.sourceforge.net/ChangeLog.html?lang=de- 30 replies

do this Make a shortcut for dosboxportable.exe call it MageSlayer and keep it in the portable folder. make the shortcut target "D:\Games\Mageslayer\DOSBoxPortable\DOSBoxPortable.exe " "D:\Games\Mageslayer\mageslay.exe" Edit the first path in the batch file to D:\Games\Mageslayer\DOSBoxPortable\MageSlayer.lnk (maybe remove start)- 30 replies
