kerszr
Alright, I love this, one of the greatest frontends... like ever. Much love to everone involved. 20 dollars well spent. One problem though... I can't seem to launch neo geo games instantaneously! What emulator do you use to have quick and fast access to all your neo geo classics??? if there is no emulator; what stuff do i have to do to configure lunchbox to get it running? Thanks ahead of time. I love you all!
Lordmonkus
I use Retroarch with the fba_alpha_libretro.dll core and it loads very fast.
DOS76
I totally agree with LordMonkus but if you are looking for other alternatives MAME, WinKawaks, Final Burn Alpha stand alone and Nebula should all handle NeoGeo games. If you don't have any RetroArch experience I would suggest watching this video by Jason (who is the developer of LB) which is an excellent getting started guide and then that can be re-enforced even further with any of the system specific tutorials that Brad has done which are very good and will get you up and running there isn't a specific tutorial for any of the FB Alpha platforms but the other videos will give you a good idea on how to setup any system properly. Lordmonkus
My order of preference for NeoGeo emulation would be Retroarch using the FBA core first, Mame second, stand alone FBA 3rd and WinKawaks last. The reasons for standalone FBA and WinKawaks as the last choices are because FBA itself has really funky keybinding and WinKawaks in my experience had troubles working through a front end. My WinKawaks issues may have just been my personal problems and maybe they could be worked around. I've never used Nebula so I have no comment on it. spycat
All the mentioned emulators will work fine with Neo Geo games through LaunchBox. On the WinKawaks issue with frontends. This emulator automatically opens games via LaunchBox provided the following two boxes are enabled in the Edit Emulator window. Don't use quotes etc. Use file name only without file extension or folder path etc. If you add a parameter to open WinKawaks in proper full screen, then you will most likely have an error on exiting the game. This is a WinKawaks and not a LaunchBox issue. It's best to run WinKawaks in full screen windowed mode. A niggling thing with WinKawaks is the need to pause emulation in order to quit. And WinKawaks limits you to CPS1, CPS2 and NeoGeo systems.
Lordmonkus
See, I figured there was a way around it :) I'd still use Retroarch or Mame over WinKawaks unless someone can show me a very compelling reason to use it.
DOS76
No for me WinKawaks is very buggy and has issues rendering probably due to the fact that it hasn't been updated in forever. I was so glad to finally replace it the other day.

Lordmonkus
do you have the neogeo.zip bios file in the same location as your game roms ?
solastus54
lol you need that huh? no i dont, after i download it what do i do with it? unzip it into rom folder?
Lordmonkus
Just put the zip file in the same folder as the roms, no extracting or anything.
solastus54
my roms are zipped too so when i go to import roms from LB will it show?
Lordmonkus
It will show up if you import it but you can easily remove it during the import process or after they are all imported you can just remove it from the games list.
solastus54
k got bios and everything into the folder and ive tried running it with fbalpha_libretro.dll, mame_libretro.dll, fbalpha2012_neoGeo_libretro.dll and still not working
Lordmonkus
I use the fbalpha_libretro.dll core and it works fine. Do you have -L "cores\fbalpha_libretro.dll" set in your Edit Emulator Associated Platforms window and have the proper matching Platform name ? solastus54
ya its identical to what you have there and still nothing...i have them working with MAME32 and they will run outside of launchbox, but when i try and run them thru LB it doesnt. Lordmonkus
Do you have the extract archive enabled ? It should be unchecked. Or any thing else checked in the Emulator Details tab of the Edit Emulator window.
solastus54
no nothings checked...idk i guess i could play them outside of LB for now, its not really that big of a deal i suppose
Lordmonkus
How about if you run them through Mame in Launchbox ?
