Still can't exit MAME

I have purchased BigBox and have the automation set property to exit. It works for my other systems but I can not use them to exit MAME roms. I am fired to go to the task manager and end it that way. What can I do to fix this?

Have you set your exit buttons/keys directly in Mame? Mame has options to set the exit configuration and you can set it to the same as you have in the BigBox automation.

I haven't been able to find it in mame. I'll look again tho. I previously had hyperspin with no problems on it.

Just open a game in Mame and hit tab. This will open the options to set controls. The exit command can be set to one or two buttons. I believe it is under inputs general then UI inputs,  UI Exit. Not at my machine to verify, but I think that is it.

MAME has issue with any type of virtual keypresses as you can see from this link its from 2014 but I still don't think that has been changed.

This post says it can be done but you have to create your own dll to actually do it.

I suggest you follow @Retro808 advice and just figure out how to set it in the UI of MAME its not that complex and its a good thing to learn about the software.

I found it. it was UI Cancel. Thank You. Now when i build my arcade cabinet I'll just have to use 1 button specifically for exiting MAME.

in the MAME UI if you press two buttons at the same time while setting a control it will make them a combo instead of one button being able to exit on you.

Yeah MAME acts differently from most other emulators, if you follow the great advice offered in this thread you should have no problems at all.

for the last month, the "Automation" keys were working fine with MAME, then after trying to get some wii-motes to work with some light gun games, my 'Automation" keys stopped working.  Yes, I can go into the MAME menus and set "exit" there, but what changed?  Something a config file?

Feels like i should be able to get back to the Launchbox Automation.

Maybe in Launchbox / BigBox your controller that you had the controller automation set to got changed to a different controller.
