I'm sure this has been asked a million times and I am somehow missing it but any help is greatly appreciated.

Anyway, I have launchbox/Big box and everything runs fine, except for MAME.

I have my ROM set and I go to install it with the MAME Full  set importer and all goes well.
I have done this with zipped and unzipped files but the result is the same.
I can get all the media so it all looks nice but as soon as I go to launch the screen goes black and then I see the list of games again.

My arcade has been deleted so I can start fresh with any advice I get from you guys.

Thanks.

Mame roms should never be unzipped. Each individual rom must be zipped.

Always test the roms directly in the emulator. If they do not run directly in the emulator that is your first issue.

If you open Mame directly (not using LB) and select a game to play does it run the game?

I don't think he "means" unzipped files, otherwise LB would probably not scrape the media correctly.

Do you perhaps mean merged and split?

And yes, if they run in MAME outside of LB, everything should be fine.

Well he did specifically state...

I was assuming he tried to run them by checking the box for unzipping the archive in the emulator settings. I could be wrong. However, even if he had unzipped the roms if he used to fullset importer it would scrape since LB does not actually import files, it just add the games based on Mame.xaml file.

I'm having exactly the same issue, got a set of non-merged roms 0.244, did a fresh install when ever you click to load a game system seems to be loading then nothing Same on bigbox click on a game system says loading then nothing happens.

Screenshot of your MAME emulator settings in LaunchBox, please. Told>Manage>Emulators>MAME - edit

Screenshot: Details, Associated Platforms

... Now that I think about it, if you did the MAME importer, does that setup the Arcade platform with RetroArch and the latest MAME core? What you are describing sounds very much like a core mismatch which won't allow the games to load.

If you want to use MAME then you'll need to make sure that MAME is the default emulator and not RetroArch.

Here is a post I made about getting the correct core in RetroArch for your MAME romset.

Games work fine using mame by itself but wont work through launchbox. Did the full install with automatically configure set up

This typically means a setting wrong in LB.

If you are using standalone Mame make sure yous Associated Platform in Manage Emulators lists the platform name exactly as you have it called in LB. Also make sure you are pointing to the correct .exe file.

If you are using Retroarch make sure you have the correct Associated Platform name as well, have the correct core selected, and you do not have the box checked on the details tab to unarchive the rom file. That last one gets quite a few users.

Pics of your setting always helps.

It all apears to be set up correctly and using the new version of mame that the installer automatically installed.

The older version worked, then I got hold of the new roms set deleted the arcade and did a fresh install.

The other system are all working.

Just says now loading then goes back to image 2

Need a little bit more details than that. The actual emulator settings are deeper in the menu than just showing the Manage Emulators screen.

Edit the Mame emulator when you go to Manage Emulators.

Share a pic of the Details Tab and then a pic of the Associated Platforms tab.

I would also right click and edit Mr Do (since that is the game you showed) inside of LaunchBox and share a pic of the Launching Tab and the Emulation Tab.

I deleted arcade again. Then did another full mame import, this time i unchecked all the import flyers and just a straight mame roms import. Now its working. System picked up all the pictures and videos from the previous import.

I am having an issue with MAME not wanting to launch the rom set. RetroArch launches them just fine. So the roms are good. But If I try to launch with MAME nothing happens. I had launchbox import and setup. I gave it the correct romset number. Would seem the importer is buggy.

I can also get them to load manually if I use the MAME app directly

To better help you, can you please share some screenshots of how it's setup in LaunchBox?  Also what version of MAME and its ROM set you are using?

Edit your MAME emulator and show screenshots of

  • the Main Details section
  • the Associated Platforms section

Edit one of your Arcade games and show screenshots of

  • the main Metadata section
  • the Launching section
  • the Emulation section

I got it to work. Looks like the auto importer was trying to use a local referenced path to the emulator? I Have launchbox along with everything else installed on a NAS/Server. Once I updated the path to the actual emulator it worked. I ended up changing it to retroarch anyway. I have A VM setup just for this.
