  1. i've done this but still havent got it working... is there anything else like needing to edit any config file? my content resides on a NAS which i use mapped network drive for connecting to launchbox and have all the xml's updated for the games.. is there a startup video path i'll need to do likewise?

    Doom: 208 games?

@sundogak Ah, thanks. That is what i wondered. not having found the list that pertains to the bundle i was looking at, through your wiki link i found this which is likely a good bunch of them: Doomworld -- The Top 100 WADs Of All Time fun stuff

    Doom: 208 games?

Hey all, just a curiosity question that has eluded my web searching- so I saw this hyperspin+games build being advertised that touted a big game list including 208 "doom" titles... I know doom was ported to many platforms and had sequels and spin offs but to the tune of over 200? I've not been able to find like a rom list or something that would detail all these.. wondered if any of you are doom fans that could shed light? Maybe its including like mods or something? Thx!
  4. Stream to nvidia shield TV? Stream to android or iOS Sorry if I totally missed what you are trying to do, when you said stream launchbox I recalled seeing these videos.
  5. Thanks, i've purchased an old server box with lots of bays to serve as a nas though i think i'm gonna try win 2019 server on it first for grins (hopefully grins). I could prolly have been safe with a USB drive caddy and utilized persistent mapping in some way.. but theyre kinda pricey! for multiple drive bays on a caddy they were reaching near the same price as a NAS or server box and often with 'iffy' reviews as to quality/consistency (tho realizing there are pros and cons to everything)
  6. i've got some old HDD's and plan to buy some big drives but what type of silo to use for em has been a tough decision. i've played around with freenas on an old pc but its not exactly plug n play and does have a learning curve to it that can take extra time to get setup. I considered getting a synology 4bay for like $289. @DOS76 doing a window server 2019 sounds enticing. i'd like to know more about setting something like you're using but i probably wont go as 'godzilla' as you have in terms of footprint (ie prolly not more than a 5-6 old drives that i have) - would this be something that could be done on the cheap? and what about low power? would it have to have a big footprint? i plan for it to be out in the main room (not hiding in a closet) so small and not ugly would be nice. The more drives will be counter productive to 'small' so i may have to let that go to some extent. i guess i just need to shop for the right case & mobo. i understand there are "nas" cases, rack mount type cases etc that might be what i should look for... appreciate any referrals, tips. my storage needs would be general backup and storage access for all in the house (would be great to have secure external access as well) and possibly for ROMS though i'm still torn about whether to use a NAS/Server setup for my retro games or just max out the storage on the pc its on & possibly supplement with external drives. i was gonna get a 4 bay usb caddy but second guessed that hearing of issues with windows changing drive letter to the drives and thus breaking for launchbox? anyway i appreciate further tips or thoughts about what could be a winning combo.
  7. cool, i may try that too. originally i had R2 + X so yea, it acidentally got hit (yknow HOLD... gives impression of HOLD for more than a sec haha).. my kid hit it and game over! i since change to using R3 + L3 and isnt bad
  8. Thanks for the help all. Did a few tests and seems to be working ok now, i think my problems came down to bad button mappings or expectations/understandings of those mappings. Sometimes i'd get retroarch paused and while trying to unpause it hit the close active window hotkey and it would bring a Shutdown Windows prompt lol! i think i need to come up with preferred ps4 controller button mappings that i'll remember. I'd like to know what other folks do for their button mapping on ps4 controllers. i was struggling with why the LB pause screen wasnt showing when hitting the hotkey combo i setup for it... then found the LB menu option for Game Pause and amazingly clicking the "Use Game Pause Screen" did the trick lol. i mean ok i'd seen that before but i guess didnt intuitively realize that this option and the hotkey mapping went together.... especially since theres a "Pause Key" field on that screen which has nothing in it and it doesnt register a button press... anyway just a little confusing but its worked out now. (dang, maybe i should go look at the official documentation, maybe all these screens are actually documented... my bad)
  9. aaah, ok well that is enlightening, thanks... so i presume its suppose to send a 'p' again when pressing the automation combo again? ... cuz mine seems to just get stuck in retroarch. well that helps me understand whats supposed to be happening.. thanks.. ha @neil9000 you responded again while i was trying to respond. sweet! thanks for that screenshot, i'll verify. i bet thats all it is.
  10. Thanks for confirming that. so now i just need to figure out why i cant exit out of that pause screen. and since i'm not hitting p on the keyboard, how is it being triggered when i try to do the LB pause screen
  11. so i press hold and a key that i believe is to show a pause screen, which, this does look like a type of pause screen although i thought the pause screen was the more menu like screen that gave options to save state etc. anyway, whatever this screen is, i can never get out of it thru the controller. trying to use the close active window hotkey just throws up a quick hour glass and seemingly nothing. i have to pull out the wirelss keyboard and escape out revealing that retroarch is still running and i have to kill it manually. the hotkey for 'show launchbox' seems to work but again just shows retroarch still running with this frozen state as seen in the pic. someone clue this noob in! thanks
  12. Thanks for the response and checking that out, much appreciated, sometimes just knowing how someone elses is working helps my own insanity. So, i worked with it again tonight and discovered that apparently i just have a dumb ps4 controller that refuses to work paired to my pc. we have 4 ps4 controllers so i simply tried another and it worked fine without even using DS4Windows. (made me feel 'duh' but yet i've no clue yet why the one controller just wouldn't register button presses even though it appeared to pair fine.) Oh and FYI, not using DS4windows for some reason allows use of the R2 L2 as buttons.. now again there may be too many advantages to using DS4Windows... i'll play around with it later using your "hide DS4 controller" tip! and are you using the newer fork of ds4windows (1.7.15 currently) or the older one by the orignal creator? o well, so currently i've got two controllers that work and my and my boy had great fun! for some reason though when i use my button automation to go back to launchbox/big box it tries to jump into retroarch... so i need to find where that is being mapped. thanks again, appreciate your taking time to check that stuff out and reply
  13. Have you done 2 ds4 controllers at same time? I'm having issues and have tried ds4windows. Im trying to connect two PS4 controllers to one usb-bluetooth adapter. Both will pair up, both will show in ds4windows but R2 L2 aren't selectable in big box or LB.. so just seems like weird stuff happening.
  14. You're totally on it! I thought i had chosen Pico but in fact had genesisplusgx.. fixed that and it worked fine. And you're also right bout those file sizes, i thought they were bigger (was thinking of sega cd).. o well, after changing the core all is well. thanks again
  15. Well i must be still hitting a hitch somewhere. i've made the variant of retroarch emu in LB, with the checkbox selected for Extract Roms. Still get a black screen opening from LB, but if i open retroarch, and Load the archive from there it plays fine. I'll keep poking around, welcome direction or troubleshooting tips, thanks! (and just to point to big picture, i obviously just have them archived to reduce storage footprint, if i should have them as something other than a 7z for this objective, definitely let me know)
  16. I tried looking around for this but got frustrated not finding anything (cause i'm sure i'm not the first) so will break down and just ask, sorry if its a dupe question. so i guess my key question is: is there a command line parameter to tell retroarch for a particular core/platform to extract roms on load vs using the emulator setting check box? use case: sega 32x game files are zipped (7z). within Retroarch can browse to the file, into the archive and load the bin. when opening from LB it just black screens. I presume if i check marked on the emulator settings "extract roms.." then it would work, however i'm guessing thats not preferable to do at the emulator level vs platform. does this mean that at current state to accomplish being able to only extract roms from archive at a platform level, one has to duplicate retroarch emulator for the particular cases. thanks!
  17. I'm setting up colecovision using the official tutorial from awhile back, but am confused (or just need more coffee) about rom path. So during the video it appears that his roms are located in a games/colecovision folder, but he's using mame to emulate. And then at one point he mentions putting the bios file in the mame/roms folder, which i also did, that was supposed to basically be it. however when i try to load a game it blackscreens for a sec indicating the start up of the emu but fails to find the game so backs out. if i put the rom in the mame/roms folder, then it works. Crux of my question is if emulating with Mame using LB do roms HAVE to be in the mame/roms folder or can LB connect the dots for mame to tell it where the roms are? so should i : 1. So do i need to move all the roms to mame/rom folder for it to work? 2. Copy the rom files over (more footprint) so that when refreshing metadata it'll keep images updated. 3. move files over to mame/ roms and reimport metadata? (but then dont have a games/colecovision path which is nice, but whatever) i was thinking that launchbox would connect the dots between Mame and where the roms were located? and then tried to see if that could be done as a "associate platform command line parameter" and i tried this: coleco -cart "Drive Letter:\full path\ROM_name.rom" -skip_gameinfo -nowindow which is from this post but that didnt do it either (i put in my full path to the rom folder but wasnt sure about that ROM_name.rom part, so tried it as is and tried with it omitted and neither achieved what i was looking for. thank you!
  18. sad to see no resolution on this, even a year later... i'm running into the same wall thought i'm on an amd setup using a Ryzen 3 3200g (APU) However, like @kalimah, I have ran the dxwebsetup and allegedly am up to date. I had found that using this command line does open mame : mame64 -window but trying fullscreen (nowindow) would fail with the direct3d errors described in prior posts so, while writing this i tried a couple of things and apparently now have it working, or at least working better: 1. open command line, windows start button, then CMD, and use type "CD" + "your directory path to mame" to change directory (sorry i'm typing all this out but some newbies are unfamiliar) 2. in the command line, once your in the mame directory (ie c:\users\you\launchbox\emulators\mame or whatever yours is) then enter "mame64 -window" and hopefully that at least starts up mame for you. 3. Use your mouse to open up "Configure Options" then "Video Options" and change your Video mode from Auto to "opengl" - i didnt play around with any other settings but of course you can. Hit Return to previous menu and Save Configuration. then you can Esc to exit. 4. In launchbox try it again. After doing the above, i've at least got Mame coming up and loading a game.
  19. @neil9000 Thanks for the replies! - i do actually try to get no-intro typically and had not run into the false game app generation based on a non-rom file yet so apparently i've done good to just get those kind of sets thus far. but thanks for that clarification that its not a bug, just normal oob behavior. So my nds sets are a a mixed bag, some are no intro but some arent. its also a very large set. so i'll have to decide whether to re-source or do a bunch of manual sorting around. Would probably save me a lot of time just grabbing a different set vs the manual labor of splitting out the roms and & the media to where they need to go.
  20. First post on the forums! sorry if its noob-duh - i did do searches against the forum first but didnt see the answer on my initial tries. two questions: 1. I'm importing rom packs that have more than just the rom file (nds in this case): they also have some media as well as a .nfo file - the .nfo file is being seen by LB as a game (see screenshot). I even tried to open it in LB and as expected nothing happened. (opening the actual game worked fine, so the emu is fine) - just asking to see if anyone else has observed LB parsing an nfo file as a game? and what are my options (cuz... i have a lot of em' lol, clean up will be gross) 2. the media that is in the zip... i did confirm that LB didnt automagically see and parse it to media for the game - which i expected as i hadn't see that mentioned as a feature before, unless it actually can per some prereqs not met by this pack.. i presume if i want to use that media i'll have to unpack and manually throw them into the LB media folders? (i have NOT forum searched this part of my question, so feel free to slap and say "this is covered in the noob section, go look there") thank you LB creators and supporters and fans. after many years of wanting to do a big retro game build, finally getting around to it!
