Oh, @ckp, I tested with multiple Xbox One controllers, but it seems that the issue only applies to controllers that use the wireless adapter (either that or a different firmware or drivers than I currently I have). I picked up a wireless dongle to test with as well as a Steam controller from Amazon so I should have those in a couple days. Thanks @Rincewind. Sorry for being difficult.

Hey guys, the problem with a new thread is that everyone has to re-subscribe to it, so it won't get near as much attention. For that reason unfortunately we need to stick to the same thread (so that people will continue to get updates about the thread without having to resub, as I need as much help with this stuff as possible). I just put out another new beta with a bunch of fixes: - Improvement: Image type preferences are now saved between launches when switching between image types in Big Box - Fixed: Using All Games as the startup view was causing various issues - Fixed: DirectoryNotFoundException rarely occuring on exit There's more, but that's what I'm currently remembering. Please let me know how this beta fares for you guys.
-
Thanks Tony, agreed. Hopefully we can get there soon.
-
Hi guys, please email kirsten@unbrokensoftware.com. She can get you the code.
-
Thank you guys; can you update to the latest beta and tell me if you're still seeing this?
-
Try unplugging any game controllers or anything related; we have seen some weird issues with certain uncommon game controllers. What was the last version that you ran successfully? It also could be something odd with your data or your configuration; try installing a new copy of LaunchBox to a separate folder and see if you can get Big Box to load that way.
-
So it only happens when MAME is active? Not when MAME isn't running?
-
I'm getting consistently less than 1% CPU usage in LaunchBox while games are running. Yes, LaunchBox stops most of its background processing when not in focus. You're probably seeing the background caching going on, I'm guessing.
-
@ckp Unfortunately not yet. I'll look at that soon; it's on my shortlist. A new beta is out with fixes for a few issues: - Improvement: In order to reduce CPU usage while playing games, the scrolling text now pauses when Big Box is not in focus - Fixed: Videos in Big Box were not resuming when going back from the game details screen the first time - Fixed: Big Box Background videos were not always resuming after playing games We're still in bugfix mode, though all the glaring bugs should hopefully be fixed. We're going to take our time fixing as many things as possible and then we'll put out one last official release before tackling new features.

Hmm, @Rune Lockhart, if you go back to 7.0, does it fix the issue for you? Here's a download for 7.0: https://www.dropbox.com/s/zy1w8hf81e9daa5/LaunchBox-7.0-Setup.exe?dl=0 You can just install it over top of your existing install.
-
Thanks for confirming all that for me, @Rod. Great to hear. Good point on the scrolling notes; I'll add that to my list. Also working on the non-resuming background videos issue. I'll be putting out only betas for a bit here to perfect everything; thankfully I think the trainwrecks have all been fixed in 7.3. Let me know if anyone else is seeing any major issues with it.
-
Hmm, well that would be the issue then. It sounds like it's having trouble creating the Temp folder for some reason, which doesn't really make sense outside of a permissions issue, but if LaunchBox is running and working well, then there really shouldn't be any permissions issues, so I don't know. You can try manually creating a Temp folder inside of your Metadata folder to see if that helps.
-
Hi guys, thanks for the report. My apologies for that issue; I believe 7.3 should fix it (as well as some other things). Please yell at me if you're still seeing these issues with 7.3.
-
@80sarcadeboy That error is puzzling, outside of a security permissions error or maybe some kind of odd conflict with a syncing application or something. Are you using anything like Dropbox or Google Drive to sync the folder? Also, does the C:\LaunchBox\Metadata\Temp folder exist?
-
Thank you @80sarcadeboy, looking into it.

Hey all, unfortunately I really botched the 7.2 release (and to a lesser extent to the 7.1 release for that matter). I'm putting out the 7.3 release shortly; I'd really appreciate if you guys could update and test things when you can. We've had some major issues with some of the VLC changes that have been a bear to fix (specifically I messed up a bunch of stuff when I added the VideoControl for the background videos). New release will be up shortly.
-
Hey guys, I found some unfortunate bugs with the new VideoControl stuff just today so I put out yet another quick trigger official release. Hopefully this one will be stable enough to stick around for a while. @ckp I'll test with multiple Xbox One controllers and see what I can do. Actually, I don't have a wireless dongle to test with, but I can plug two controllers in directly via USB. Between all the recent controller firmware changes as well as MS driver changes, who knows where the issue might be. I'll take a look. @imdavid555 I'm hoping this release fixes that error and those performance issues (as well as some other VLC-related issues). The main reason why I forced out this release is because of those dreadful performance issues that were occurring with themes that used the new VideoControl. @DR9 That's odd, any further details you can send me on that would be appreciated. Do make sure it's not your image cache (refresh all images would do the trick).
-
This is probably because some things are still loading. Previously we had force loaded everything before we showed anything on screen, but in the interest of performance improvements, we're now showing Big Box as soon as we can in the process. Unfortunately this means you might just have to wait a few seconds before the controls are live. I trust everything is working fine after 5 seconds?
-
Just put out the official 7.1 release; let me know if anyone runs into any major bugs with it. We'll keep pushing through bugs for a 7.2 release relatively soon (though hopefully we've squashed any major bugs so we can spend a little more time on the next one). @kyoken What's your video card? Also, what in particular is slow with the theme? Is it a low frame rate for the transitions? Is it slow scrolling through games?

1080p SNES Recorded Hyperspin Game Theme Videos *RELEASED*
Jason Carr replied to Riffman81's topic in Game Media
@Kevin_Flynn Video work will not be wasted efforts; videos will continue to work no matter what, and there aren't a whole lot of valid arguments as to why custom rendered animations are significantly better than videos. More custom animations via XAML are planned, but aren't currently a high priority. This day and age it's very quick to render an HD video, and often times it's even faster than rendering custom graphics and animations. So I guess my question for you would be, why would you consider custom animations to be a significantly better option? Granted, we will be adding support for more XAML-based animations, largely because it's good to provide many different tools for theme creation, but I fail to see how that would ever invalidate video themes. -
There is a CoverFlow quality setting in the options. CoverFlow images are cached in order to display them quickly, and this setting determines the quality of the cached images.
-
You have access to the Platform object, which you can bind to. So you should be able to bind an Image element to Platform.ClearLogoImagePath.
-
@billyc999 I think I already answered this in the other thread, but unfortunately that won't help to auto-space the boxes. Currently the Spacing property on the FlowControl is the best you can do there.
-
Yes, this should be possible. The only downside is that currently there's no proper image category for the characters, but once you have the images it should be easy enough to place them there.

Just put out a new beta guys that fixes an issue with Scan for Added ROMs where it was sometimes finding duplicates when absolute paths were used in the XML (Brad found it when creating the tutorial video for it). The import bugs that we discovered are significant enough that I think it merits an immediate release. Unless anyone finds any more show stoppers, I'll probably put out 7.1 tomorrow and then we'll keep squashing bugs for 7.2. Always better to get the bugfixes out as quick as possible, especially when they're causing common issues.
