  1. Hey Stimpy, exactly! This is right along the lines with what I'm hoping to do eventually with the metadata database thing. I see it as bigger than just a metadata database, but also a social solution, with the ability to easily share your entire library on the web, both for people to view, and for people to use your metadata in their own libraries. I was sort of rooting for the metadata database to be higher up on the voting results, so we could do stuff like this sooner. I think I'll probably have to implement the home theater view first, though, seeing as that is the clear winner, at least thus far.
  2. Indeed there has, Fluffo. I have a Steam API/user ID-based import in development, that should be out in an upcoming beta very shortly. Hopefully within the next couple of days. I am hammering through it this weekend.
  3. Hi Fluffo, welcome. As for the moment, there is not a way to automatically scan for games on startup. That feature is definitely planned though, and will come eventually. That said, it is easy to drag and drop new games into LaunchBox currently. The games importers will also skip over any existing games to prevent duplicates, so you can re-run them at any time to add any new games in your folders.
  4. Hi Ujin, welcome. Yes, I have long term plans to support other types of media, including music and videos.
  5. Hi littleking, welcome. I am working on a much better Steam import process that will be out soon, which will use your Steam User ID and the Steam API to retrieve all games instead of just the games you have installed. This will be in the next version, which should be out relatively soon. Metadata matching should be improved as well. You can subscribe to the beta releases under Tools > Options > Updates if you want to get this sooner.
  6. Ha...I said, "Can't do, bd. Bean stew."
  7. Yeah, for sure. We'll at least separate DOS and Windows in the platforms.
  8. Hi Maddoc, this can be done with the new Custom Fields in 4.7 premium. You can add any custom fields that you want (category) and then select them in the sidebar. It sounds like custom saved filters is working the opposite of how you are expecting it to. If you don't enter anything it will show all games.
  9. I think my son actually *believes* he is Sonic. When he runs he sticks his arms out behind him. He thinks it makes him blur.
  10. Me too, bd. Me too.
  11. Yes, I've added that to my to do list.
  12. Wow, amazing the difference that 6 years makes. Atari 2600 vs. SNES. I'm sort of doing that win my son; I gave him a crappy computer to start with, he could only play 2D games from the past. He's recently graduated to a system that can handle GameCube games. Of all the games he's played, the original Sonic the Hedgehog is still his favorite. He's 6.
  13. Ah, interesting. I guess that really puts it all into perspective.
  14. Very nice. I always wished I lived during a slightly earlier time...to see all this stuff come into fruition.
  15. Nah, restricting uploading to be a premium feature would mean much less people uploading, which we definitely don't want. We want the database to be as populated as possible, so that can't be a premium feature. But yeah, I don't see it being a big problem, at the beginning. Though I would build in safeguards, obviously.
  16. First console was my parents' Atari 2600. That was the only console I had for a very long time. Thankfully, though we had plenty of computers. I probably owe my passion for development to that. I was bored one summer when I was 11 and dusted off my Dad's old 8086 from the basement. Put it up in my room. Took me a while to figure out how to put it together, but I made that thing sing. 640 KB of RAM, a 30 MB hard drive, and "turbo mode". Fun stuff. Ended up using GWBasic to do a bunch of stupid stuff (earlier version of QBasic, came with IBM DOS 3.0). It was IBM DOS at that point, not yet MS-DOS.
  17. Very nice guys. Thanks Maddoc for the tutorials. ...I use Plex too. And XBMC.
  18. Ha, didn't see your reply, Brad.
  19. Hi Sylandro, welcome. All text between parenthesis or bracket characters is currently removed, as most users don't want multiple versions of a game in their collection, and searching TheGamesDB for metadata won't work as well if (Japan) or (Europe) are left in the title. I did add a Region field in the last version, but unfortunately the ROM importer currently won't automatically identify it from the file names. That is a good point, though; I'll add an item to my list to see if I can do that. Probably an option to not remove those characters should be provided as well.
  20. But of course, I will be adding font customization for the sidebar very soon. Sorry I haven't gotten to that yet.
  21. The font size is changed automatically (for both premium and non-premium users) depending on your Windows settings. So if your Windows settings are configured for vision-impaired people, then the fonts will be much bigger OOTB.
  22. Yeah, for sure, here's hoping we can get some more translations going. I'm excited because LaunchBox now allows for adding languages pretty easily, thanks to Clive working with me to make it happen.
  23. Hi alkemade, that is not standard functionality. It sounds like there's probably an issue with your game controllers (one is off or malfunctioning and the system is sending the signal). Try disabling game controllers in the Options.
  24. Ew. Zuckerberg. It would definitely be regulated, but may be community regulated. If someone is abusing the system (which honestly I think will be fairly rare), then it would be easy to ban them quickly, and remove all of their content. Yeah, it is definitely a challenge, but I think the end result would be worth it. Can always put limits in place to prevent system overload. I just know so many users put so much time and effort into their collections. Allowing them to easily share it all would be amazing, even if they had to prove their feasibility first.
