Well like @DOS76 said, the Clean Up Images will remove images but other stuff it won't for now, feel free to submit a bitbucket feature request under the Help & Support button at the top of the web page.

Cue + bin is what Retroarch and Mednafen use for Playstation, Saturn, Sega CD and PC Engine CD games. Though they do support some other disk image formats cue + bin are the most common. As for Launchbox not deleting other files beyond the one imported this is a feature and extremely unlikely to change in the future, Jason does not want to be guessing as to what else to delete along with the imported file itself as that could run into very serious issues.

It should work, I seem to recall trying it at one point but I won't wear that I did. Look in your main Mame install folder where the exe is and see if there is a mame.ini file there, if there is not then look in the \ini folder for it and if it is there instead copy it out to the main folder next to the exe.

That makes sense, don't want people accidentally deleting games within BigBox mode and regular Launchbox mode is meant more for the management side of things.
-
I'm not sure if turning this option on in Launchbox affects BigBox mode as well, I have never used it myself.
-
Tools > Options > General There you can turn on "Allow deleting ROMS when deleting games", this won't remove the media but you can use the "Clean Up Images" tool in the Tools menu and it will scan for media that belongs to missing games.

Remove all your games from the Arcade platform and any of the platforms Light-Speed may have created and then just to be sure, close Launchbox and go into your \LaunchBox\Data\Platforms\ folder and delete any "Arcade" platforms created by Light-Speed. You also may want to go to your \LaunchBox\Backups\ folder and delete any backup Arcade xmls there that Light-Speed might have created. Then load Launchbox and all those Arcade platforms created by Light=Speed should be gone. Next import your Mame rom set like any other platform but when importing them using the Mame emulator you should get to a screen that looks like this: Here you can filter out all the stuff you don't want and prioritize the stuff you do want. And at the very bottom you see there is a check box to create the separate playlists. Hopefully this all works for you, I don't know for certain if it will solve your slowdown issue because I have never had to do this myself.
-
Yup there is a warning about using this and it shouldn't be used.

It really shouldn't take that long unless something really weird is happening or your computer is really slow but you can check out this thread and maybe there is something there to help you out. There was a time when the more games you added to your collection caused things to really slow down but that has long been fixed unless you have a giant collection of like 75,000+ games or something. A few thousand games is nothing and shouldn't be causing any issues.
-
It shouldn't need anywhere near much time, you can help it along by going to each platform and scrolling through it. And those different arcade systems are just playlists which you can get rid of if you want. To do this quickly, close Launchbox and go to your \LaunchBox\Data\Playlists\ folder and delete the playlists. Restart Launchbox and all your Arcade games will be under a single Arcade platform.

It most likely just needs some time to cache all the new images.
-
Games shouldn't be missing at all unless the Mame devs decided for a good reason to remove them. I haven't updated my rom set in a while though, I am using 182 or 184, I can't remember exactly which.
-
New versions don't have less games at all. People will update for a couple of main reasons, new games being supported (ex: Akai Katana in 192) or a new version of Mame brings significant upgrades such as improved shaders or sound.

The files are so small that an SSD really has no impact at all on performance. SSD's really only make a significant difference on large files or things that take a while to load such as an operating system or games that take a while to load like MMOs or large levels like in Battlefield. Media files such as pictures and videos in Launchbox are quite small in comparison. On top of that people have compared the performance between SSD and HDD with Launchbox and there is no difference. I run mine on a middle of the road HDD and it runs just fine. Performance issues are usually caused by other factors.

MAME through Retroarch, using shaders and overlays (bezels)
Lordmonkus replied to cleverest's topic in Noobs
Use the Mame that most closely matches your romset so in your case since you have the 192 set use the latest Mame core. When you load the core it should tell you which build of Mame it is based off of in the bottom left hand corner of the RA menu screen. Pick whichever shader you like best but keep in mind that some shaders need aspect ratio set to on to look proper.- 1 reply

There is no reason to have your Launchbox install on an SSD, especially if drive space is an issue. Being installed on an SSD has been proven to not be of any benefit at all except for maybe the initial boot time which really isn't that long.

Can't use my controller in the emulator cores.
Lordmonkus replied to Nick_Arrow's topic in Emulation
That is a weird issue, I use Nestopia and never ran into that issue so I am fairly certain it is not the core itself but something else. -
Uncheck the "Use file name only without file extenstion" box. Also since you are using a UI version of Mame you may need to copy your mame.ini file from the \ini folder out into the main Mame folder where the exe is located.

We've all missed something small like that before

Cool, good to know

Not that I am aware of but I have never looked.

BGFX shaders are not very flexible to the end user since they are basically hard coded in the .json files. At the time when I did this guide HLSL was a total mess and BGFX was the superior shader with less hassle but since then HLSL has undergone a massive improvement and is much better and easier to tweak to your liking. I would suggest looking into those. I posted my presets here: You can preview changes using the ` menu but to make them permanent simply edit the raster.ini file in the \ini\presets folder.

Can't use my controller in the emulator cores.
Lordmonkus replied to Nick_Arrow's topic in Emulation
That depends, my F710 wireless Logitech has a switch to toggle it between Xinput and Dinput. I really wish I had an answer for you, if your controller is working in the menus it should work in the actual games as well. Retroarch does a great job of auto detecting controllers and working, things only get a bit funky if using really oddball 3rd party controllers or when you have multiple controllers and you want to assign different ones to different cores. -
Yeah, PBP files are much simpler but there is a smal selection of games that won't work as PBPs. It is a very small selection though from what I have read.

\Launchbox\Images\Platforms\Nintendo Entertainment System\Banner\ That is where those images are stored, you can just delete them or back them up. For other systems just change the Nintendo Entertainment System for the platform you are looking for.
