Man @Omen gonna rain on my parade?! Jk I always appreciate bug reports. @Retro808's question is a good one. Also, do the crashes occur with both video engines? VLC and WMP? You'll need to restart BB after changing the video engine.

Idk about y'all, but I think these platform backgrounds by @viking are gorgeous. I'm so glad he let me show them off in this theme.

@Maul83: As Neil mentioned, we think this problem is fixed, and I'll post an updated version within a few days. Just to make sure we're thinking of the same bug, do the platform views work okay? Is it just the game wheel that is not working as expected? Please look at @neil9000's posts with screenshots in this thread to see if it's the same issue. Thanks for your feedback.

The INDEX files look fine, and that led me to consider culture-specific number formatting which is the problem. You probably format decimals as "0,3" where in the US we would use "0.3". I was being culturally insensitive . Thanks for helping me track down this nasty bug! So, I think it's fixed but will need your help testing further. Would you please copy this DLL into the theme's Nostalgia\Plugins folder? It will overwrite a DLL in that folder. You will need to unblock the DLL (right click > Properties > Unblock) before using it. You will also need to restart BigBox to see the change. Ao.Bigbox.Themer.dll Please let me know if it works.
-
If the theme folder contents are too large, perhaps you could at least upload the INDEX files in the AVLF subfolders. The background images are being chosen correctly, but the videos are not being aligned. The INDEX files are responsible for defining the video positions. You're the only person who has reported this problem, so I want to see if there is something wrong with your INDEX files. Thanks for the additional screenshots.

Thanks, Neil. I think that would be helpful. We'll get it sorted out.

@neil9000: Please see if this version of the plugin fixes the playlist issue. You'll have to unblock the new dll. My arcade list is not populated like yours and I was only able to do limited testing. Fingers crossed... Ao.Bigbox.Themer.dll

Okay thanks. It's obviously not positioning the green boxes correctly. This is not a problem due to the screen aspect ratio or resolution; it is something else. Would you please? 1. Zip and send me the copy of the Nostalgia theme you currently have in LaunchBox\Themes. 2. Install the newest version of Nostalgia (0.97a) and see if the problem persists. p.s. does the positioning issue occur on the games wheel view also, or just on the platform view? That's a feature I added to 0.97a. If there is no video for a particular platform, playlist, or category, it will loop through a random selection of game videos.
-
@dewe64y: So far I've not been able to reproduce this problem, though I only have a 16:9 monitor for testing. I changed the resolution around a bit, but even at 800:600 (4:3) it still aligns the video properly. Can you do some more testing? Make a small change to PlatformWheel1FiltersView.xaml in the theme's Views folder -- activate VideoPositionDebug by setting it to True: <aop:AutopathVideoLooperFramed FramePathRoot="pack://siteoforigin:,,,/Themes/Nostalgia/Views/Images/AVLF/" VideoPathUnderlay="pack://siteoforigin:,,,/Themes/Nostalgia/Views/Images/static.mp4" VideoPositionDebug="True" VideoPosition="0,0,0,0" AllowFallbackRandom="True" /> This debug flag creates a green overlay for the positioning, as follows: 1. Please send some screenshots of how this green debugging overlay looks on your monitor. 2. If the alignment looks okay per #1, please try testing with both video engines: VLC and WMP. Make sure you're testing with the latest version of the theme 0.97a.

Thanks again @Levo_Stone. If you have time down the road, would you please upload your collection of media to the downloads section? I can grab what I need from your thread, but it would more visible and helpful to others in the downloads section, I think. It's a very nice collection you've made here.

Gotcha, that makes more sense. It's a bug in Nostalgia then. I'll look into a solution and let you know when I have an update for you to test.

For the latest version, I implemented a cache for games list details such as number completed, average star rating, etc. This info is not readily accessible from the LB database, so the plugin library has to chew on the data a little. Without the cache, there would be slowdowns on the platform wheel page every time the selection changed. The extra time for startup is likely due to populating this cache. I'll look into some solutions. I neglected to mention that in the changelog. BTW, roughly how many games, platforms, and playlists do you have on your system? This would impact time to build the cache. Yeah that was bugging me too -- just hadn't looked into it yet. Thanks for bringing it back to my attention. You can get rid of the TV static entirely by removing the VideoUnderlay (think I got the name right) property in the AutopathVideoLooperFramed controls of the two wheel views. Edit: and I will look for a solution regarding the transitions.

Thanks for doing some more testing. Interesting it happens for all other themes -- even the default theme? Would you please post a screenshot from another theme showing this problem?
-
Thanks again for testing and identifying these issues. I've thought about this playlist issue some more. We could probably fix it by adding stuff to the appropriate INDEX file, but that would duplicate information that's already in one of the INDEX files. It'd probably be best if I find a fix in the code, and I have an idea how to do that.

@dewe64y: Retro808 is on the right track. It's probably related to the aspect ratio of your screen -- is it 21:9 (?); it looks like a super widescreen. I designed the theme for 16:9, but I can probably make the video position adapt to different aspect ratios such as 21:9. Please let me know.
-
Nice! Thanks for checking again. Hmm, I can't reproduce this on my system. I suspect it's a problem with the AVLF\Platforms\@INDEX file -- yes just found it. This index file was not fleshed out with all the arcade platforms. I can send you a new one. What arcade platforms do you have defined in LB? I don't have mine subdivided a whole lot, so it'd be helpful to see how you subdivide your arcade category.

That looks like an error from the old version of the dll; the new version doesn't contain that method Zoop... Did you restart BB after copying in the new version of the theme?

Don't have GBA in my collection, but when I browsed emumovies it looks like the videos are MP4 format (?). Anyways, I should be able to make VLC support 3GP (because it has built-in support for this format) ... but 3GP is not supported in WMP without a codec pack. Good catch. The game details page does not use my plugin; I'll see if I can change that.

Nice! I added scanlines. Forgot about that one, thanks! P.s Let me know if you're thinking about doing any more, because I have a head start on some of them. Hopefully we've gotten most of them at this point, though I'm sure there will always be others. @viking's platform background set is quite thorough.

@Omen: Here's your Virtual Boy background. It'll be in the next release. It won't play the video in triplicate, as that would complicate the code a bit too much for right now. At least the video snaps for the Virtual Boy are simpler and will fit nicely into the main screen.

Great idea -- I think that's a simple solution since I'd just need to reposition the video; no video editing required. Thanks for the report. I believe I've fixed that; will be in the next alpha release. I'll try to post an updated release this weekend.

Ah, okay ... The themes you have must be using an older version of my library than I thought. I'll send you the dlls tomorrow. I've been working towards an 'official' release for some time, but I'll send you the work in progress. It'll be a long shot though. I think your best bet is to wait for the next official release of CZ.
