  1. I thought I had asked this before, but can't find a record of it. Which MAME romset version works with Launchbox? Or is it independent of Launchbox, and dependent more on the emulator being used? When I was trying to get Neo Geo games to work I think I had to use the 0.149 romset. Thanks.
  2. Is MAMEUIFX still the recommended emulator to use for MAME games in Launchbox? Is it much better than using Retroarch?
  3. Thanks SentaiBrad, I will try the LFN DB. I wonder why that is not the default one with Lunchbox, if it has improvements.
  4. I added some MSDOS games to Launchbox - the King's Quest series. When I try and run one I get the error message: Because of a limitation with DOSBox's command line usage, Launchbox cannot launch games with a single-quote (') character in the folder structure or file name. Please either move the game to a folder that does not contain single-quote characters in it (or its parents), or leave the application path blank and manually run the game in the DOSBox configuration file's [autoexcec] section. Is this expected behaviour? Do I really have to rename all my DOS games which contain a single quote to get this to work? Thanks!
  5. In the Launchbox options menu there is an option to always go fullscreen when viewing images. The images themselves however appear to be shown at their native resolution so can be quite small on a high res monitor. Is there an option to get Launchbox to stretch these images to fill the screen? If not then this would be great, so that I can read the text on the images properly
  6. Spycat - that looks like a good workaround, many thanks. I do have premium and am looking at customising the various colours. But I cannot find the item which changes the colour of the game hover/selection box! I can change all sorts of other things like the colour of the menu bar selection, and even the edges of the colour of the menu bar selection, but I'm struggling with the game selection box! Any help appreciated!
  7. Oh - is there any general timeframe for Launchbox on Mac/OSX? Just wondering how much to invest in Parallels/Windows.
  8. 2016 15" MBP - so Radeon Pro 450 / Intel HD Graphics 530.
  9. Thanks for your input. I was trying to load presents. What I have found is that not all shader presets load - I got things like GEOM, Lottes and Easymode to work, but when I select CRT Royale for example and return to the Retroarch shaders screen, it hasn't loaded it and still displays the previous shader. I am happy that I have got some shaders to work but am unsure as to why some don't seem to load.
  10. I'm struggling to get the shaders working with Retroarch. The platform I am trying to get working is the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (which I have renamed to Nintendo SNES), and the emulator is Retroarch. The core in Retroarch that I am using for this is bsnes_balanced_libretro.dll. When I go into Retroarch and load the bsnes core, then go to quick menu, then shaders, then choose a preset and select it, everything seems well. When I run a SNES game in Launchbox however, no shader effects seem to be applied. I have tried restarting Launchbox. Am I doing something wrong?
  11. Yes I think I did. I got it working though. I think the problem might have been that I didn't save the file in NP++. I had assumed that when you closed NP++, it would automatically save the edits to the file, but perhaps that didn't happen!
  12. Thanks DOS76, I did that and the paths were all replaced. The ROMs still don't load however. When I re-open Launchbox and edit the details for a ROM, it is still showing as the old path (v:). Doesn't it update automatically when you edit the XML outside of Launchbox?
  13. Somehow, the game path for one of my platforms (NES) changed - the drive letter changed, from z: to v:. Not sure how this happened as I don't remember it ever being v: Anyway, I need to change the drive letter part of the path of all the roms back to z: I tried the bulk edit feature, and whilst there is a lot there, I could not see the rom path as an option. Am I missing something? Thanks!
  14. Thanks Zombe, as I suspected really. Just weird that they chose such an acute angle for the SNES 3d box art that you can hardly see the front cover! I will just have to make them bigger!
  15. Was just going to ask - isn't DOS the same as PC in gaming terms? I mean one refers to an operating system and the other to the machine that runs the operating system.
  16. That's a pity; it would be a great addition to Launchbox. I have it set up in 3d box mode, and for some systems the angle of the box is quite acute (e.g. SNES), necessitating a larger thumbnail in order to see the artwork clearly. May I also ask if it is possible to change the angle of the 3d box artwork, or is this set? I don't know why the SNES artwork is at such an angle. A few occasional games are at a more upright angle, but most lie quite flat.
  17. It is possible to have the game icon/box art thumbnail size set differently for each platform?
  18. Thanks for your input DOS76. My hardware is a 2016 MacBook Pro (Intel i7, 16GB Ram, 1TB SSD). I wouldn't have expected any scroll delay. Regarding your comment of scrolling through your list in 3 swipes - I can do something similar - i.e. there is no reduction to the actual speed of the scrolling once started; it's just the initial response to the user input that is delayed.
  19. I've noticed a slight scroll delay when scrolling through the games list. It's small (about 0.2 seconds) but enough to be noticeable and to make the app feel a bit less responsive. I wondered if it was to do with me running Launchbox on a Mac via Parallels (Windows VM), though other apps within Parallels (such as MS Edge) don't exhibit this scroll delay. To be clear, I don't mean a delay in the rendering of the thumbnails, I mean a delay in the scrolling action itself. Is there anything I can do here? Thanks.
  20. Thanks guys, I stupidly assumed that it was a setting within LaunchBox. Now using Sumatra PDF.
  21. I recall that when I first opened a manual, I was asked which app I wanted to use to open it. I chose the web browser, but now I would rather the other choice. I cannot for the life of me find out how to change it! Any help appreciated!

  23. Thanks SentaiBrad, I figured out how to rename a platform though it seemed to add it as a second platform with some duplication of games. Your comments above clarify matters and I now seem to have the naming thing sorted.
  24. Many thanks SentaiBrad for your reply. Perhaps I should have stated - I am using Launchbox rather than Bigbox, and did purchase Premium. I am somewhat surprised that you had not heard mention of this issue before. I suppose it is an aesthetic issue - as I am running Launchbox on OSX via the Parallels app, I am keen for the aesthetic element to be there. I had been using Openemu on the Mac which is aesthetically very smooth and slick, though Launchbox is far more versatile and has more features. Of course, Launchbox on the Mac would be ideal though I understand that this may be some time off yet! How would I know what game is selected? A valid point indeed. Personally, as I always have the info panel open on the right side of the screen I could easily tell by looking at that. I understand that if this panel is not open (and many users may prefer it this way) then it may be a challenge to know what game is selected. One way of looking at it is - if you don't know what game is selected, then just select the one you want to select! A more considered approach might be to tone down the selection graphic. Openemu uses a very thin blue line around the selected game box art and it looks very clean. The "problem" with Launchbox in this regard is that the box art is not always square; for example it could be a 3D box, and so the selection line would not sit flush with the edges of the box. Having said that, a thin line around the perimeter of the box art would still be very much preferable to a big blocky grey square. Another approach - sure, keep the big blocky square for indicating the selected item. But why is this square required when the mouse pointer is just hovering over an item. You know the mouse pointer is there, so you don't need the big grey square to confirm it! I hope that I am making myself understandable and that you can see some merit in my suggestions. Oh and by the way, great app - I use HS on another machine and Launchbox is certainly a lot easier to set up!
  25. When moving the mouse cursor over games in the selection window, or selecting a game, a big grey box appears around the game. This looks quite ugly and detracts from the illusion of the pictures representing physical media. Is there any way I can turn this off, or at least make it a lot smaller or less obtrusive? Thanks.
