omg they games are just dont want to laucnch through launchbox i tried everything i dont know what the hell is going on il try a stand alone emulator just not retroarch omg ffs
Do they launch directly in Retroarch without using Launchbox?
My recommendation is share pics of your Launchbox set-up. Right click and edit a game and show pics of the launcher tab and the emulation tab. then go to tool, manage emulators and edit your Retroarch emulator. Share pics of the Emulator Details tab and the Associated Platforms tab. It is easier to diagnose seeing some data on screen.

Nice write up @Aesthetic. Glad you are all sorted.

Yeah I was just using Critical Zone 2 blue video background version, i wasn't using any different themes for any platforms at all.
Interesting. So, it appears not to be solely related to per platform themes or to a particular video player. I guess I can convert everything to one theme and use something other than Critical Zone and see if it occurs in that set-up on my machine.

I actually hit this again last night after I posted. I had attract mode running for about 10 minutes when I hit it, I closed out the error and attract mode continued, this time for only a couple of minutes before getting the error again, at which point I shut Bigbox and went to bed. I am using WMP as my video engine in the theme if that's of any help.
@eatkinola Similar to Neil mine occurs when my cabinet has been left running. The times that the error occurs is sporadic it seems. Sometimes it happens 10-15 minutes laters. Other times not for an hour or so. I use multiple themes so I wonder if that has anything to do with it. I think I saw some posts about the different versions of plug-ins in different themes. Right now I have Nostaliga, Critical Blue, and Aeon MQ7 on different platforms. Since Neil mentioned the video player it should be noted I was using VLC and this occurred.
Edit: Just an example I was gone for about 1.5 hours from the house and the cabinet still has not kicked the error. For my at least it seems very sporadic.

@neil9000 Thanks. I knew I saw it posted before. I looked but just did not go back enough pages in the original beta thread. I use Critical Zone 2 as well. I can always count on you to come through in a pinch with help.

Started getting this but report a few days ago. I can close the report and BigBox keeps running, but after a few more hours of it running the bug pops up again and I can repeat the process. I had a similar scenario happen on beta 7 but the error was different. It does not crash BigBox it just shows up and I can close it.

Man... thanks for the response here. So a few questions..
What is cave emulation?
Is there anything that can assist with sorting ???? I know current build, there's tons of " non working ROMs " because there's over 5k...and I couldn't imagine going room to room.
As far as the no-intro sets...do you see any issue with sets like that??
Thanks man!
Cave is a Japanese company that primarily made shoot ‘em ups. They made some pretty interesting games.
I cannot really respond accurately on the sorting question as I never really use any sorters. Launchbox’s Mame import wizard is pretty good at weeding out the crap like fruit games, mahjong, casino, and so on. You can have it not import clones if you so choose. You can even have it create playlists for acade systems and separate out things like Cave, Irem Classics, Midway Classics, etc.. Now keep in mind it creates those playlists but those games will still also be under the main Arcade platform. I am sure @Lordmonkus or @DOS76 can speak more exact to this question.
No-intro sets work fine in Launchbox. For Mame the recommended set is either split or nonmerged. Merged can cause issues so avoid it.

Are you guys into retro threads as well as retro gaming
This was an April 2016 thread and probably way out of context now to bump
An old thread is never out of context if a member has a question related to it. Unlike other forums that get pissy about bumping necro threads this forum thankfully is not that uptight.

These are looking good. Thanks for the updates.

PROGRESS!!! I figured out that if I go to the QUICK MENU settings and go to Control instead of Input, I see the controls closer to the Sega system (or whatever respective emulator I'm running). Now to just:
1) Understand the relationship between the Main Menu Input "Input User 1 Binds" and the per-system controls. I'm ASSUMING I'll have to map my controller buttons to arbitrary buttons in Input (i.e. map L2 to a random button in Input and then map L2 in Controls for it to use that button). It's a little more confusing than if I were using a game controller, but I think I might understand it.
2) If I'm only able to see this control menu while a game is launched, does that mean that these control mapping settings are not for the ENTIRE emulator? Is there no way to set it so EVERY game uses this mapping?
Thank you once more for your help!!!
If you open Retroarch without loading a core and from the main screen go over to the settings page (gear icon) then down to input you will have 3 options. Input Hotkey Binds, Input User 1 Binds, Input User 2 Binds. These will allow you to set general input maps for the whole of RA. When you load a core all cores will use these control maps. If you want certain cores to have certain controls set up then when you load a core you can open the menu go back into the settings option (not the quick menu) and change the controls for that core and then save it as a per core override. The quick menu option to change controls in many cores only works on gamepads. Not keyboard encoded controllers. There is even an option if you want a cetain game to have a certain map to save a per game override.
-
That controller should be keyboard encoded so emulators like Retroarch should be easy to map your controls to. I have an Xarcade Tankstick that is similar in that it is keyboard encoded and Retroarch was a breeze to map with. Retroarch allows you do bind keyboard keys and gamepad buttons to the same control. I do not use Kega Fusion so I cannot speak to that one. But even RocketLauncher had little issues for the couple systems I use RL for.
Edited to add link:
if you check out Jason’s post in this thread (5th post down) he has the same controller.

Your 51 builds behind that's over 3 years worth of improvements your missing out on. I would say you should upgrade.
You are right on that. I checked the Mame site and .143 came out in June 2011. 7 years of improvement.
I think it is worth the update. As @Lordmonkus said it is not hard anymore to find good sets. The site he mentioned is pretty easy to get an updated Mame set from.

@Robin55 No worries. Easy enough to download again.

@Robin55 Thanks a ton for this. I have a bunch of eShop games in my 3DS platforms with ugly logos. This is perfect to clean it up!

I think from an aesthetic point of view the matching system keeps everything in line with the theme, as you said. I did not like it in Netflix at first, but I have gotten used to it and it has been pretty good at showing me shows I have ended up liking. So it has grown on me. The star rating is a tried an true view, but honestly I would not mind seeing a little change to something else and if it fits in well with the theme than it is not as if the change is going to stick out like a sore thumb.

FBA is a picky emulator. The roms will work if you have a current romset and the correct bios for CPS and Neo Geo games that work with your romset. Even then on FBA forums there are reports still of issues with games not being scanned or running. Probably why many here use the FBA cores in Retroarch.
-
What rom set version is your Roms from? If memory serves me right FBA works with roms from 175 and newer. Well at least back when it was version 0.2.97.40 that was the case. I would assume the latest FBA version still needs roms from at least that version to current.
-
Are you getting an error or it just will not launch?
Just set it up as you would most other emulators. Make sure your rom paths are set in FBA directly. Then add FBA as an emulator to Launchbox. Make sure in the associated platform tab you list all the systems you want to use FBA and make sure you enter the name as they are listed in your Launchbox set up. On the emulator details tab be sure to check the "Use file name only..." box.

Yes there is another systems that allow that, In fact also support fast scrolling by pressing the letter or the begining of the name in the keyboard, like in windows you must no use the search option for jump to an archive, you just press write the beggining of the name or the first letter, It would be 2 very good improvements.
These functions do exist.
BigBox has had for a while the ability to move your controller (for example move left if your game scroll is up and down) to pull up an alpha numeric list and then you simply scroll to the letter or number and BigBox jumps to the first game of the selection.
In Launchbox the latest beta now lets you hit a keyboard letter and Launchobx will jump the the first game in that selection.
-
I see the issue you have to check the CPS1, 2, 3, and Neo Geo Hardware boxes so it knows what systems to list roms for.
-
You know you can put the pics directly into your post. No need to host on a 3rd party site.
What about screen caps of the FBA screens I mentioned?
-
Maybe share pics of what inside your roms folder looks like and the folder structure. Then pics of the select game screen in FBA as well as the rom path screen in FBA.

Oooooh nice! I had not downloaded the update yet as I have been setting up PC games. Which by the way is your fault thanks to those PC game boxes you did in the other thread. Up until then I had not imported any of my pc games.
