Lordmonkus
For now I would use Retroarchs core for games that use the d-pad and for games that use the analog controller use the stand alone Mednafen. The RA core doesn't have analog controller support yet but shouldn't be too much longer. Stand alone Mednafen is in a better state than SSF as long as your disk images are proper.
madpossum
For the life of me I can't get the Mednafen Saturn core to work, neither in LB nor just in Retroarch. Tried different rips of the games, tried using CDMage, tried everything. Everything fails to launch. Sometimes I get an "Uncorrectable data at sector 0" error message, sometimes not. Almost everything I have is "mostly" working in the Yabause core but I'd love to switch over.
Lordmonkus
Yabause and SSF are much more forgiving of bad dumps than Mednafen. "Uncorrectable data at sector 0" error message can be corrected. Check your file name, sometimes ones that are extra long and full of different characters cause problems. First try renaming the cue + bin names to something shorter (be sure to adjust the cue sheet to point to your renamed bin file). Are your files in simple cue + bin ? Or do they have mp3 or wav music files ? If you have music files you will need to mount the disk image in something like Daemon Tools Lite and then regenerate new a new cue + bin with ImgBurn. I did a video on fixing the mp3 / wav format dumps. Also try this for the uncorrectable data error if the renaming doesn't work.
madpossum
I got it working, it was a combination of some bad dumps and one of my bios's being bad. Thanks for the tip on using CDmage, though, it saved me a lot of time re-downloading stuff. Really happy with Mednafen Saturn over Yabause and SFF so far. DOS76
In two years you won't remember what those other emulators are for Saturn mednafen crew is no joke
Zombeaver
So I updated to the newest RA core in hopes that I could then play Astal with it since I believe they were supposed to have pushed the update downstream, but post-update I'm getting nothing but awful stuttering crunchy audio - it was totally fine before. Standalone still works fine as well... no idea what the deal is. I've tried messing with quite a few video and audio settings to no avail. Lordmonkus
Weird, I just tested with the latest core update Astal is just fine on my end.
Zombeaver
No, that's not what I mean. I'm not talking about Astal specifically...every game is doing it. Even ones that I was already using the RA core with before.
Mute64
Me too bro me too. Standalone works fine.
Lordmonkus
Other games are fine for me as well. Are you using the stable 1.3.6 build of the Retroarch.exe or nightly ?
Zombeaver
Stable. I literally haven't changed anything in RA. It was working fine before.
Mute64
Hmmm im using 13.4 stable.. Havnt updated to .6 yet.
Lordmonkus
Hmm, really weird. I use the 1.3.6 executable with the latest core and it runs and plays just fine.
Zombeaver
Yeah I've been on 1.3.6 the whole time - that hasn't changed. It was working fine and now all I'm getting out of it is crunchy garbage audio.
Mute64
Downloading the 13.6 stable now.. will report back if it fixes it 4 me.
Zombeaver
The only change I've made is updating the core. Was fine before. Borked now.
Lordmonkus
Did you try deleting the core config and generating a fresh one ?
Zombeaver
No, but that was going to be the next step. I'd prefer not to do that because I've got custom resolution/viewport settings setup but I guess I'm gonna have to at this point.
Lordmonkus
Just a thought but are you running a heavy shader or low audio latency settings ? Did you turn on Threaded Video ?
kev25b
Sounds like you have hard gpu sync on, Try turning it off.
