Lordmonkus
Graphical options are very limited in the stand alone.
Thanos Reigns
Plus Saturn games don't scale well @1080p. The only good options are 480p, 720p, 960p and 1440p
ckp
Thought I would try saturn mednafen in Retroarch, but it just boots to a japanese bios like screen which looks like it wants date/time to be set. Nothing seems to get me out of that screen even if i set the date/time? Any idea? In Mednafen stand alone i don't have this issue and i'm using the same bios files. Zombeaver
You have to hit the continue button (it's the bottom right one, if I recall). Once you do this for the first time you won't be prompted for the same game in the future. It's something specific to the RA version and I believe they're planning on getting rid of it in the future. DOS76
The date time screen is standard for RA Saturn core the 1st time you start a game after that it should go into the game if you are getting stuck there I don't know what the issue is. ckp
thing is that i tried all the buttons on that screen, but it keeps coming back. i'll try again...
Zombeaver
It should make a little *bleeooh* noise and then fade out and then it'll go to the normal boot intro. Sometimes there are a couple of screens you have to go through. It shouldn't come back any time you load the game after that.
ckp
ok, i had to hit the xbox red B button on the bottom right bios button. before i tried A and Start to no avail. all good now. so, what RA settings would you recommend to make the graphics look better since it's quite grainy. no scan lines please
ckp
right now it is full 16:9 (that might not be great for saturn) and looks pretty bad. the game is WAY slower than it was in stand alone.

Well you could use... 37 minutes ago, ckp said: ...no scan lines please I got nothin'... You could try some of the interpolation shaders like xBR. I'm not a fan of them in general but xBR is probably the best among them.

You can change the AR (4:3 or something custom if you wanted) in the video settings just like any other RA core.
ckp
there are a zillion xbr shaders. how do i turn it off if i end up not liking a shader?
Zombeaver
In the shader section where it shows "Passes: #" turn it to 0 and then hit apply changes. You can also just switch between them, loading one after another - it'll overwrite the old one.
ckp
ok, any idea how to get the game out of slow motion? in stand alone it was fine. i must have a video setting that RA doesn't like?
Zombeaver
Do you have frame delay set to anything other than 0 in your video settings (it's under vsync)? If so, try changing it to 0.
ckp
nope, frame delay is 0 already
Lordmonkus
Do you have Hard GPU Sync On ? If so set the Hard GPU Sync Frames to 1.
Zombeaver
You can also try turning on CD caching. It's in Quick Menu -> Options and it should be the top option. It's off by default.
ckp
hard cpu sync is on but was set to 0. i set it to 1. i just enabled cd caching. now the performance is much better. thanks. in stand alone the 4:3 fills my 1080p screen from top to bottom but in RA it leave black bars on all sides, so it's smaller. Trying 16:9 in RA also leaves black bars on all sides whereas not in stand alone. any idea how to fix the 4:3 in RA so it fills top and bottom? Zombeaver
I had the same problem with the AR in RA. I ended up creating my own custom viewport so that it properly scales to the top and bottom of the screen. Basically you can instruct it to move/crop the screen by telling it to use "custom" AR and then tweaking the numbers. I can give you the exact numbers I used when I get home tonight.
