I'm not sure about now, but back in the day people had to compile versions of mame to support hi scores. It didn't work in the official mame build

Thanks, actually i had just figured it out from response on another post, i added the non ui version and enabled the plugin and added the correct folders after thats its enabled even if you launch from the ui version

If you're using the regular MAME and you don't want to use a Notepad editor, you can just run MAME itself (not a game) and you will have access to a lot more settings such as the Plugins and Directories (ROMpaths etc).

Yeah that is true there are options built in to the standalone MAME UI. I have some setups where I have to set monitor indexes to get my vertical and horizontal games to their respective monitors so that requires getting into the .ini and making some changes also setting the BGFX shaders and a few others I've never seen any graphical settings for.
