Mess / Mame (I use Mess) is the best way I found to do Colecovision and I haven't touched any Intellivision stuff at all so I cannot help you there.

Any BIOS for ColecoVision needed for MAME?

Also try MESS/MAME with Intellivision. It plays most of the games and for those which don't, there are the standalone emulators Bliss and Jzintv which should work with .int files :)

Yes.

coleco.zip 11.0 KB

colecoa.rom
313 10031-4005 73108.u2

Those are the 2 files in the zip.

But where do I put the BIOS, I put it in the rom directory and it doesn't work

Did you go to tools>manage emulators edit MAME and setup the proper commands in the Associated Platforms tab the commands should be

Coleco coleco -cart
Intellivision intv -cart

I use a stand alone version of Mess for my Colecovision, version 177 to be precise and the bios go in the \roms\ folder in my Mess folder and like @DOS76 you need those command line parameters.

There are a couple of ways to get this stuff working especially with Mame but this was just my way to get it working.

Also make sure that you don't have use file names without extension and don't use quotes checked in the manage emulator form  as that will break MESS games from working in stand alone MAME and for some reason LB checks those by default

MAME or MESS is probably best, but the other choices you mentioned do also work.

I've used Nostalgia 5 and had no issues with games with the int extension.

Also, blueMSX has no problems running ColecoVision games.
You add your ColecoVision platform as an Associated Platform to blueMSX. The Default Command-Line Parameters are
/machine "COL - ColecoVision" /rom1 %romfile%
