Golden Tee Fore 2006 Help

Hi all. I have spent several hours reviewing posts on this forum and others related to Golden Tee Fore 2006 for Mame and can't get anything to work for me. I have the Itagle.zip file in my Launchbox Games-Aracde Folder. I have the Golf_Fore_Complete_v6.00.01 CHD file. Following instructions, I have created a gtfore06.zip file in the same games-arcade folder. I also have a gtfore06 folder that contains the CHD file. I have tried importing the .zip file and when I do, Launchbox recognizes the game and downloads the art for it, but when I try to run it, I get "g4c-us-u.u53 not found (no good dump known) (tried in gtfore06 iteagle gtfore06)   golf_fore_complete_v6.00.01.chd NOT FOUND" . I have that file in a few of the older roms in the rom set and tried various iterations of including that in the folder as well with no luck. I am using CDH rom set .206. I have also tried booting this CDH file straight from MAME64ui and I get the same error message. I promise I have tried all the advice found on these great forums to date (and beyond) and cannot for the life of me figure this out. Any thoughts?

You say it will not launch directly in MameUI either, correct? If that is then something could be wrong with that chd dump or the bios file (iteagle.zip) . It looks like per your post you have the folder named right and the chd in it. MameUI should launch it as long as the files are not bad.

Launchbox does have issues with MameUI if the mame.ini file is not located in the root folder where your mame exe is,  but if it is not even launching directly in MameUI the .ini is not your main issue.

If the game is not launching through Mame on it's own then you have a rom problem and Mame is telling you that in the error message.

Your files are either missing this rom completely or whatever one you have is incorrect for the version of Mame you are using and you will need to source a new rom dump which contains the correct version.

Thanks for the quick replies all. Quick clarifying question for you. It was my understanding from reading the previous posts that this game was unique in it being a “standalone CHD” game (not sure that’s the proper terminology). Meaning there is no other file for it besides that CHD file. The error message I am getting would suggest otherwise, but it’s come up in my browsing. I did not have a gtfore06 folder in my mame set.

I willl make sure my Mame version is .206 to match the CHD version and see if that helps

Anyone with a working version able to confirm there should be other files? Perhaps the iteagle file I have is the issue.

From the thread ill link below,

Golden Tee Fore! is one of those romless games which are made up of a bios file and a chd - there is no conventional game rom. The game's rom name as MAME's internal database reads it is actually the name of the folder holding the CHD file. This type of game works fine when run directly from MAME, MAMEUI etc., but LB has an issue as there is no game rom as such to point to. You can't point LB to a folder name Your game consists of a bios file (iteagle.zip) and a chd file. I don't know which CHD you have as you didn't specify which version of the game you are using. Use Notepad to make an empty text file named the same as the game's CHD folder. Make sure you use the folder's name not the chd file's name, as sometimes these are different. Next either rename it's extension to ZIP or just send it to a ZIP. You now have a ZIP file with the same name as your game's CHD folder. Put this in with your MAME roms and point LBox to it. Your game should launch fine now.

The ITeagle file is 3.5 in size. I’m wondering if there’s a potential version issue on that as well given that I had to hunt that one down from a random website.

Appreciate all the brain power here, especially as this is not really a Launchbox issue anymore.

Didn't know about the direct CHD launch capability in LB. If that’s true, I just import the CHD file direct? I did try that and it didn’t find all the artwork like it does when I make the dummy folder.

Okay did a little looking in MAME and it looks like LB creates a reference to gtfore06.zip during the import but it doesn't actually create the empty text file any longer as I don't have that file in my MAME location that LB points to. Its the same for 04 05 and 06 which are all CHD. All three launch fine for me through LB.

Some time ago, Jason updated LaunchBox to allow it to handle games like that in the style that MAME itself does.
So, instead of making a dummy zip, you can just point LaunchBox to either
a non existing zip such as gtfore06.zip like @DOS76 is doing
or to the chd folder itself. This is what I do and have no problems launching games like Golden Tee Fore! 2006 Complete, Chaos Heat and XII Stag to name just a few that have no dumped game roms.
