Joe35car
Is there a way to see which database version is being used on launchbox? Also how often are MAME databases updated here? Thanks
wallmachine
At the moment no you can't see the version, how often? not sure I assume every month? to see if the database is updated check the modified date of the MAME.xml file in the following location \LaunchBox\Metadata\MAME.xml has changed and that should give you a rough idea of the version they are using. The below threads might interest you I suggested a tool for users to be able to import the latest database based on the mame.exe. Jason Carr
Unfortunately, looking at the date of MAME.xml file will not tell you anything about when the MAME metadata was last updated. We do our best to update the MAME metadata every month, shortly after new MAME releases.

Sorry for the late reply, and the late update. I just updated everything for 0.222. Remember that you'll need to force update metadata from the Help menu. TheNewClassics
Hey @Jason Carr, was there a possibility of MAME LB updates being announced when they come out? I couldn't tell if that's what was potentially happening here. Edited August 18, 2020 by TheNewClassics

Jason Carr
Hey all, FYI; the latest beta has been modified to no longer require specific MAME version updates on the server, and the full set importer now works well with any modern version of MAME. These features will be out shortly in an official release. There are also four new files under LaunchBox\ThirdParty\MAME; these files can be manually updated to match a particular MAME version if necessary. They are all used (along with a MAME.xml output from MAME itself) to build the necessary metadata for the importer and the games. Basically, all the MAME metadata processing is done locally on your computer now instead of on the server, so you'll no longer need to worry about us updating anything on the server in order to update to the latest version.

Awesome news about the new MAME metadata importer for modern versions of MAME. I guess I can't bug you any more about when the new metadata will be released. Works like a charm.

Joe35car
Star Wars Bootleg clone is importing instead of galaxy wars. I noticed this a few dozen games. Off hand the other one is star castle is not being import (parent but the clone is.
Jason Carr
Responded to @Joe35car via PM, but to clarify, the MAME arcade full set importer will always prioritize the selected region, even if you choose "skip clones". This will make it pick the best ROM for the selected region to prioritize. It will not just import the parent games. Back when this was all built, in our discussions, no argument could be made for the benefit of importing only "parent" ROMs. Generally, it's best to ignore that and prioritize region and other factors (like officially released versions).
