i strongly recommend using iso over chd for ps2 games. I had to completely replace all my ps2 chd files with iso cause chd was causing games to temporarily freeze up and had very long load times with black screens.

What games for instance ?

I have never experienced this on my chd set ... and I literally have every game.

Strange, I have a collection of more than 200 PS2 games in chd and played at least 60 or 70 but yet to encounter 1 that doesn't work. Can you name a few games that were giving you issues, I'd like to test them as well.

Nerco! So my ps2 games are all currently in .gz. I want to convert them to .chd. However, having just gone through this process with PSP games and learning that there is a huge difference between "createcd" and "createdvd" when compressing psp games (createcd causes the emulator to error), I'm wondering which of these options I should use for my PS2 games?

I converted my PS2 library, about 50 games, from ISO to CHD using "createcd"

no complaints from me. I would assume would work for going from .gz format but idk for sure

The consensus appears to be:

Make sure to use createdvd command for DVD titles and createcd command for CD titles.

oof, apparently I got lucky then because I didn't even know about the other createdvd option when I did my conversion lol. I have not run into any issues with the handful of games I have

I try searching now to see if there is some compiled list of CD vs DVD games, this looks promising. but, this seems like a giant hassle for sorting/organizing/segregating the ISOs prior to doing the conversion. I'm not sure of a good way of doing that. Maybe some scripting. And I bet someone could find a better list if they search longer than like the whopping 5 mins I just did

Follow up information:

The first thing you should know is breathe easy, it'll work either way for PS2 (not PSP fair warning). Apparently the emulator can account for both compression types because PCSX2 is awesome and this is just another reason why.

However, technically, you should use createdvd on DVD titles and createcd on CD titles like JoeViking said.

Theres an easy way to tell which you should use, and its by the file extension of the uncompressed rom. If its

.iso = use createdvd

.bin = use createcd

That said, if I had already compressed my games to chd, I wouldn't worry about it.

Hope it helps!
