YART (Yet Another Refried Theme) 2.1

About This File

So basically i have recreated RetroHumanoid's amazing Unified Refried theme in CTC and made quite a few changes to hopefully make it even better.  The most notable changes are that it has more info when viewing games and the new movable 3D model boxes.  I’ve also added the abilty to choose if you want Fanart or the default images as the background images and having images or text as in the bottom infobar.  Atm its only 16:9 but if there is interest I’ll try and add more aspect ratios.

To get the most out of this theme you need box - fronts, box - backs and box spines in your Launchbox setup.   You can do without the box - backs if you dont paln on rotating the 3D models though.

So the views it has so far;

  • 3 Platform views 1 with a full screen video and vertical wheel, one with a smaller video and one that has a selectable favourites and recently played list

  • 3 Wall views to kind of mimic Launchbox (need some tweaking still though)

  • 4 Vertical Wheel games views with 2 different background choices like Refried, one with a big console/handheld/TV and dynamically changing images for different platforms. The other 2 are smaller images of the platform in the corner, without the dynamically changing platform images.

  •  2 of the Vertical Wheel games views (1 dynamic and 1 not as above) have a clear logos wheel and movable 3D model boxes (front, back and spines images needed for full effect for all wheel views) and spinning CD or cart images

  • 2 of the Vertical wheel games views (1 dynamic and 1 not as above) have a vertical box cases wheel as well as 3D movable boxes and and spinning CD or cart images

  • 1 Text view which is mainly for the game selection options (play, read manual ect) with gameplay, title and game select screenshots.

----------

Features:

  • Dynamically changing platform images (like refried)

  • Dynamic Marquees for arcade games (like refried)

  • Dynamic Marquees/Backglass for Pinball  games (Future Pinball, Pinball FX3 and Visual Pinball)

  • Moveable 3D model boxes

  • Controller images change in playmode for different platforms

  • Most badges shown

  • Publisher, genre, playmode and certification in infobar and game notes scrolling along the bottom

  • Fanart for the background if you wish.

---------

To change/remove certain images;

Wheel Views

  • For the Fanart as a background delete or rename the folder; Themes>YART>Media>Background.
  • If you want the any of the Publisher, Genre, Playmode and PEGI/ESRB* images to show as text instead of the images, delete or rename the folders;  Publisher Logos, Icons Genres, Icons Play Modes and both the Icons PEGI and Icons ESRB folder (to remove the certification), all are in; Themes>YART>Media.

*( When the game certification is shown as text I can’t find a way for it to show the PEGI certification so it will say, M-Mature instead of 18 for example)

  • To change the certification Image from the EU PEGI to the US ESRB ratings, rename or delete folder; Themes>YART>Media>Icons PEGI
  • To change the PEGI text to read ESRB in the wheels views go to the folder; Themes>YART>Views and;

Open WheelGamesView.xaml, Wheel2GamesView.xaml, Wheel3GamesView.xaml, Wheel4GamesView.xaml and the TextGamesView.xaml in a text editor (Notepad++ is a good option) and find Text="PEGI: and replace it with Text="ESRB: in all 5 of the above views or just the one you use.

  • To Stop all the Discs from Spinning

Open WheelGamesView.xaml, Wheel2GamesView.xaml, Wheel3GamesView.xaml and Wheel4GamesView.xaml in a text editor and search for BeginTime="00:00:02.5" To="360" Duration="00:00:05" RepeatBehavior="Forever"> and replace with BeginTime="00:00:00.0" To="0" Duration="00:00:00" RepeatBehavior="Forever">

You need to do this twice (or replace all in Notepad++) as there are 2 entries you need to replace to stop them all spinning, one for the CDs and one for the Mini CDs

Wall Views

  • For Fanart to show for the Wall Views delete or rename the folder; Themes>YART>Media>WallViewBackground
  • To change the certification Image from the EU PEGI to US ESRB overwrite the files in the folder; Themes>YART>Media>Icons PEGI Wall, with files in the Themes>YART>Media>Icons ESRB Wall folder.

----------------------

Text filter and Platform 3, recently played and favourites

For these to show you need to go to Options>Views in Bigbox and enable "show filters recent games" and "show filters favourite games"

Launchbox controls what images are shown in the recently played and favourites.   To change what type of image is used go to image group and choose the type of image you want to use in the dropdown (shown below). This seems to be platform specific as well so you need to go through them all.  (Boxes or 3D Boxes work best others don't work well)

216590733_Screenshot(224).thumb.png.c96c99d3021afac396f6c51d44872f47.png

----------------

Front and Back Images

To have more Front and Back boxes show on the 3D models (If the proper front and back ones arent available) i recommend setting these priorities in Launchbox.

@RetroHumanoid and his amazing Unified Refried on which this built on. Whilst i have made a lot of images myself most are from his theme (especially the video borders).

@faeran for his Unified CTC which i used as a template to start this (and it taught me how to use the Community Theme Creator)

@y2guru for the unbelievable Community Theme Creator

If I’m missing others I’m really sorry as i have been at this for a while off and on so may have used other people images somewhere a long the line.

Lastly, this is my first effort at theme creation so bear with me if things aren't as they should be. I'll fix any problems ASAP if you guys find any issues :)

P.S. Please give me suggestions on what to do with views that haven't been filled yet or changes that could me made to the current views.

-------------------------------------------

Wheel 1, Wheel 2 Handhelds and Wheel 3 views showing the 3D boxes

This is what it looks like with all the images removed (as detailed above) in the infobar

Awesome update to this theme. Just wanna let you know though that in the Platform Views and Game Views if there is no clear logo for a platform or game, the name appears empty instead of showing text. Other than that, everything else works good so far.

Thanks for the positive feedback and letting me know about the problem.  I've uploaded a new version with this fixed 👍

Sweet! A combo of Unified and 3-DIMENSIONS, two of my favorite themes!

If I may make some notes and suggestions from setting this theme up:

- A few of the theme images for "Magnavox Odyssey 2" have their file names misspelled.

- The theme images for the "M.U.G.E.N" platform aren't set up properly if you use LaunchBox's default name for the system, which is "M.U.G.E.N" (note the periods)

- The theme images for the "Bandai Wonderswan" and "Bandai Wonderswan Color" platforms aren't set up properly if you use LaunchBox's default names for the systems, which are just "Wonderswan" and "Wonderswan Color" without the Bandai part.

- Not a problem really, but more of a suggestion: Themes for just the Atari 800 and a basic "Pinball" platform would be nice to have.

Thanks for the feedback, this is exactly what i need as i don't have 3/4 of the platforms i've done so this helps immensely.   So I've fixed what you said and i'll get a update out over the weekend as i've found a few more issues.

I'll get a Atari 800 theme set up as well but that will probably be the same images as the Atari 8-Bit but with the 400 removed.   I'll have to think of a way to do Pinball as at the minute the video changes to portrait to simulate a proper table as i didnt like it in a crammed into square box like the original is but i'll try and figure a way to be able to choose which way you prefer.

Can you do me a favour and head to the support page on the forum for this theme?   I am changing the view that shows when you select a game and would like some feedback on if its worth carry on with.

I have built my entire system around the Refried theme and I am THRILLED that you've updated it with new features.  I tried 3D boxes for the first time last night and it was SOOOOO cool.

A suggestion and question.

1.  As someone who has ALOT of platforms now I had to default back to using some of the Refried themes since alot don't have boxes.  Also platforms like Arcades and such wont have boxes.  You should include something similar to the old Refried theme.

2. Question.  Do you have any artwork that you could share for backgrounds, etc so we may be able to help with some platforms that are not yet available?

I hope you continue to work on this and improve and add features in the future as LB continues to evolve.  I am 100% using it and can't wait to add more 3D boxes to my system.

Great work!

Love this theme! Great work on it. Retrohumanoid (hopefully he comes back around someday) has done some great work and this is an awesome update to the theme!

I was also wondering if there is anyway to turn OFF the disc spinning? I am using this for ScummVM and some games are on discs while others on floppies so I'd rather just disable the disc spinning altogether for this platform. Also using it for Amiga, MSX and Windows and noticed that Amiga and MSX do not spin. Tried to dig in the XAMLS but wasn't sure what to search for exactly so gave up :D.

Anyway this is some fantastic work and I think Retrohumanoid would be proud.

One other thing I noticed. With 3DS the gameplay snaps don't fill the entire viewport. I attached screenshot. NDS work just fine in the viewport. I tried re-encoding one of the 3DS snaps to match the size of the NDS ones (480x720), but it didn't change anything so figure it must be something in the theme squishing them down.

Sorry guys i didnt see your replies, I don't seem to get a notification here like i do on the themes support page for some reason.   Thanks for the praise, suggestions and telling me about the bugs in it it's much appreciated 🙂

@Daytona24 I'm not sure what you mean about defaulting back to the Refried themes and including something else refried had?  Let me know and i'll add it.  The only artwork i have is whats in the theme already unfortunately.  I dont have many platforms so i just went on what platforms Retrohumanoid had and i added a few myself i saw missing.  If you find any missing let me know and we can find some images and make some backgrounds for them.

@CTRL-ALT-DEFEAT You know what i forgot all about adding other platforms to make the discs spin, i need to find out which have discs so i can add them but as i dont have many platforms it may take a while to go though them to find out whats what.  I could turn the disk spinning off for specific platforms if that works better? if not i'll find out the option in the XAML to turn them all off for you.  As for the 3DS It's my fault the 3DS videos arent working, i forgot to create a condition for it so its using the default placing of it.  I'll sort that out and the Amiga/MSX discs not spinning and update the theme when the updated CTC gets released 👍

Edit: For the Spinning disc Its the Amiga CD32 isnt it?  and is it both the MSX and MSX2 that need it as well?

@PaulyC No worries! The spinning discs issue is with ScummVM. MSX/Amiga work just fine. For ScummVM though, some games will be on CD while others are on floppies and with the current views available, the discs and floppies will spin since no matter which view you are using they all include the spinning. Might be good for all platforms that are CD-based to have at least one view option where the disc doesn't spin (in case people just don't like that at all).

Ah Ok. I’ll turn it off for ScummVM and I probably need to is MS-Dos as well as I imagine that has discs and floppies (if you can think of any others let me know and I’ll add them as well).   I haven’t got a free view to add the disc not spinning for all platforms and if I add it to a current one it may not be the one people like using so I’m a bit stuck for that lol.  I’ll find the string in the XAML that can be deleted that turns it off though and add it to the main post that way people can still use any view they want.

@Daytona24 I think I know what you mean now and to have a fallback image of a Static 3D box when the game doesn’t have a front cover?  I can do the for views 2 and 4 (that don’t have the vertical 3d boxes showing) but the others are controlled by the coverflow so can’t turn the 3d box off.

What you can do though to make it find more images is set your front box priorities to show at least the advertisement front flyer as well, (also set back box with flyer back) that way if it has no front/back box it will use a flyer which will fill in quite a lot of missing images.

You can add more to that as well like fanart box etc but I’m at work atm so will add a screenshot later to show the options I check as I can’t remember them.

@CTRL-ALT-DEFEAT I found a way to disable the spinning discs,  there may be a easier way but it works lol

I'll be adding the update here tomorrow with the problem you mentioned with the NDS fixed and i have disabled the disk spinning for ScummVM plus other things so you may not need to do the above if you only want the ScummVM to not spin.

@PaulyC Everything is working perfectly now, good sir. I'll let you know if I come across or notice anything else, but I think at least for my platforms, this is perfect. Good melding of Refried and 3-Dimensions.

@CTRL-ALT-DEFEAT Good stuff,  btw have you been on vertical views 2 and 4?   I just wondered if the fallback 3D boxes work OK and the 3D model is hidden if there isn't a image for the box front

@PaulyC For views 2 & 4, if there is no box - front option, but they have a 3D box, it will show it but also includes the 3D model (see below). If there is no box - front or 3D box, then there will just be empty space in the spot the box/model would normally be.

Brilliant thanks for that.  I almost got it right then lol.  I just need to tweak it so the 3D model doesn’t show when no box front image is available 👍

@PaulyC Great theme! A couple of minor issues:

1. When BigBox is in attract mode and the wheel starts spinning to land on some random game, the area that normally plays the video snap goes completely black until the wheel lands on a new game then it plays the video correctly. Not a big deal but I haven't seen that behavior on other themes.

2. Similarly, when in a games view and then go back to the platform/playlist view the area where the platform/playlist video would play is completely black and stays that way until I move wheel. So, for example say I'm browsing through the wheel of MAME games, and then I press escape to go back to the platform/playlist view, BB should play the video that I have associated with MAME. But the area where the video should play stays black until I move the wheel to the next platform and it then plays the video for that platform/playlist.

Thanks for letting me know i'll look into that tomorrow and try and fix it.

I noticed i broke a few things somehow, like the marquees not changing on the arcade platforms so i need to get a updated version out anyway 👍

It was doing that if you have marquees images for the game before i broke it lol

I fixed the first issue but i can't seem to replicate the problem you're having here.  So if you look at my video, your's isnt showing a fullscreen video until you move the wheel like mine is?

No problem. Out of curiosity does it does this for any other platform view or just view 2?
