yep, im only a good 3 years late on this one, but did anyone ever come up with assets for this platform? Juuust ran into this
-
yea it has a similar'ish folder structure. and they do have an eboot.bin (even though thats not how vita3k launches the games, actually launches from the gamefolder itself aka PCSE00261) also has a param.sfo. Will give it a test at some point. Would be no good if it imported to the ps3 platform anyhow as cleaning that out would potentially be a mess Still, would let ya know if it worked persay. As for modifying the code - i wish. Programming wasnt in the cards for me. Will be taking it to my grave as one of my bigger regrets but i digress. They say its never too late, but tell me that with 2 toddlers hanging from the fans lol. Anyways, as for the icon - does it need to be like... an .ico file, or a specific reso or?
-
worked a treat! Only request I have, and boy is it a minor one (dont hate me for being ocd) is to add an icon to the context menu for importing ps3 games. Just so it looks nicer One thing to note/mention, if you use the manage>virtual file system to move the hdd0 to the same location as you have your games, selecting the root directory hits all the pkg games and disc games in one go. As i was doing it I was concerned, but concerns were unfounded. I actually have a !RPCS3 folder (so its at the top) which houses all the virtual file system stuff from rpcs3 (dev_hdd0 and hdd1) then outside the !RPCS3 folder are all my disc titles in their respective folders. It dove down through the !RPCS3 directory, through the hdd0 directory, and into the individual games - as well as the disc games all in one go. perfection. Thank goodness for guys like you Now if we only had a means to do this for WiiU at least thats a smaller library by magnitudes. I wonder if this would handle Vita stuff. Doubt it as i dont "think" that uses eboot, but i might be wrong. About to revisit that sometime today.

you see, that list shows as NEC TurboGrafx...... ill try renaming regardless my problem entries ftr (typed exactly as they are/all pulled from default platform list) ColecoVision GCE Vectrex Mattel Intellivision NEC TurboGrafx-16 NEC TurboGrafx-CD Nintendo Switch Sega CD 32X SNK Neo Geo AES SNK Neo Geo CD SNK Neo Geo Pocket Color Sony Playstation (has platform image but logo generic) Sony PSP Minis If anyone can confirm which one of these do in fact/should in fact have art "out of the box" and which ones need to be managed by the user (in a perfect world) it would be helpful. For the ones with more potentially obvious solutions (like with company name preceding, ill try a rename) if it does turn out to be a naming discrepancy ill submit a bug report at some point today. 1 thing at a time Still cant get the ui picking up my desktop wallpaper right lol.

aaaaaah. didnt think of that potential angle. So launchbox default platforms are giving the wrong name, or the artwork is named incorrectly to match up with it, either or is up to the person that implemented it i guess. So would changing the name of the platform cause it to populate, or does this only happen at the time of creation and thus would require a new playlist? Anywhere we can source the actual list of the way they should be named? So i can discern what is a case of not being included, vs a case of a naming discrepancy?
-
yea, probably wrong terminology. wrote that from the gym lol. so what your saying is either, theyre no longer included with launchbox, they never were, or they should be? I got my launchbox from the source, as thats the only place you can afaik. Ive updated only via the guis update option. My playlists arent altered, theyre exactly as launchbox imports them from the dropdown (aka not a naming thing).... so not sure what to say /shrug just an observation. EDIT - looked in the launchbox>images>platforms section and NEC TurboGrafx-16 folder is there, but inside contains no images. TG16-CD doesnt even exist. ColecoVision is another one thats barren. Only thing i can think of if these are "supposed" to be there is that running the media cleanup purges them if you dont have a platform with them set up at the time of running perhaps? Gonna check on an untouched install on my backup pc. (its my reference install :P) EDIT2 - ok, i think im misunderstanding you or something. If theyre included with launchbox, theyre definitely not present on my untouched install. None of them are. Unless theyre obfuscated/compressed/hidden somewhere until a playlist is created. In that case, it still begs the question why many of us are missing the same images for the same platforms. At what point they populate/where they come from - im unsure, but if someone were able to upload the full platform set it would be awesome
-
Just found this ala google due to the same issue with at least a half a dozen platforms. Plain text and no platform images in bigbox. seems like it should be working but isnt for some people? Like everyone here, scraped every single one via a default platform from the drop down.
-
excellent, thanks again! will let ya know how it goes. And yea, it can be moved, any of the emulated hdd directories can. under the manage tab > virtual file system. I think i moved that and the shader directory or some such. Its been a few
-
will do, gonna get on to it in the AM. Shutting down for the night ? Good info though, and thank you very much for putting it together. One more inquiry - your mentioning of the pkg installation location gave me pause. RPCS3 gives an option to move the dev_hdd0 directory which I did. I keep my emulators on their own drive, and since rpcs3 requires installing games to hdd0 coupled with the size of the titles, i placed it on its own drive. I hope this wont present an issue?
-
ill be taking a peek VERY soon lol. without looking, does it handle pkg games and disc based games? considering the differing paths. I believe the structure locations of the file within the root path are identical (without looking) but pkg games end up in rpcs3's emulated hdd directory where disc games end up wherever you rip them to. oooor it probably goes based off of the location launchbox gets when you import said file(s) so it doesnt matter?
-
ha, was just doing wiiu and will be moving on to PS3 relatively soon. Immediately realized the issue and it caused me concern considering with WiiU, its a relatively minor task to simply handle manually due to the small library. PS3 is a whole nother animal. I know SRM handles the naming issue for wonky consoles that operate via HDD like most of the newer stuff by using a json file that basically pairs titleID with title. So when you run the parser when it sees BLUS38810, it enters it as Final Fantasy XIII. (just an example, totally made up pairing). It also handles arcade stuff in the same way which launchbox is obviously already capable of doing. you can get a complete all region list of what gameID is what title (for disk and downloaded) from gametdb, thats the easy part. As for importing (and this is way above my paygrade so im talking out my tail) perhaps for that specific platform since games will be ran from the same place, you could have it simply look up 2 folders, grab the ID - parse it against the list of gameID to title , and voila! of course, i imagine if it was THAT easy.....

new user of launchbox and ive been adding things manually. Just found out about this plugin and hoped it would make it a bit less taxing - but seems its broken somewhat at current or? -
So im nearing being finished with my importing and have started to look at some of the options for customizing launchbox's UI. Unfortunately, its looking like many of the options arent working/being obeyed/applying properly. I did a barebones install on my backup pc to test and while the library is empty, it is the same version of launchbox - and seems to be working there. Unsure if it can be buggy, or if its something inherent to my install. If its the latter - obviously would like options for a remedy. I wont go into all the settings that dont seem to be applying (coloration related stuff) just one as its easiest to describe, and I imagine theres a good chance that if I can find out whats causing it to behave the way it is, the others will likely be rooted in the same place. The option (which is set by default i believe) to use your desktop background (wallpaper) as your launchbox UI background seems to do nothing. I'm met/left with a plain grey background. The option to use a custom background - If i select this and choose a wallpaper.png from my local collection, it does nothing - still met with a plain grey background. Even if I use the blownup boxart option, simply doesnt change. The only option that changes anything is if I select to use the default launchbox background. at which point I get the textured looking background with all the black dots. Any ideas why it would behave/misbehave in such a way? Worth noting I have two monitors, and they both have a different background however its displaying neither and I tried setting them both the same with the same result. (unsure if this could even be related to the fact i often have to refresh images several times before they "stick") Tried running as admin to no end. The app is on a non-system drive but from what i understand its wholly portable so that shouldnt make a difference? Taking all suggestions I cant stand when something isnt working, even if its something purely aesthetic. EDIT. just tried to use the desktop background again. Closed and reopened launchbox. seleted a game called space invaders which gave me the clear logo/background. Then whenever I selected another category, the background stayed as space invaders /shrug. somethings Janky and Im not sure what my next step in fixing it could/should be. Im not familiar enough with launchbox just yet to delete settings/files etc without risk/knowing what takes what with it at the expense of messing something up.

Steam Controller no longer works after updating to version 10.2-beta-2
klepp0906 replied to jedigu's topic in Beta Testing
yea, mine would all work unless it was remote via steamlinkapp (through an nvidia shield). I could run it at the pc through steam big picture mode and all was well. Ill update to the newest beta and give it a rip at some point this evening and report back. id be lying if i said i wasnt apprehensive but these things must be done -
yea of course. I wouldnt expect anything to be prioritized unless it was catastrophic, much less in any timeframe other than what the person doing the work designates. That being said - id imagine ease of image importation is pretty high up there in the list of features central to the software. yes, i was thinking this as well. However what happens when you want multiple boxart - fronts to show up for example. So you can pick which one you want to use. Id imagine the more ideal behavior would be you edit > add, select your image and give it a designation. And it places it alongside whatever the current association for said entry is. at a glance, i think when multiple entries do exist, it just gives them a 01-02 etc, so unless im missing something, this would be the lesser of the evils/preferable/increase ease of use substantially. as it sits, without spending time on it, GBA has at least 10% euro artwork. For me to fix that I now have to import each and every one via the GUI (so it names it properly) then move said entries again from the folder theyre placed, to the proper folder. fortunately in these cases, the current artwork is european so deleting them isnt an issue other than the fact i now not only have to import for each, but delete for each as well. the problem then would come if you did a refresh/update metadata/media. I imagine it would re-pull the incorrect art, and potentially muck up your entries again. in all fairness, i am brand new to launchbox - so that may not be the case. in the end, im just trying to completely suss out whats what with features and limitations and inner workings. Im super thorough to a fault with my emulation setups so i already spend far too much time getting it "right" to not know how things that could potentially cost me time if i mess up, work or function.
-
Ok, so its a limitation of the software then. I need to add a feature request pronto as I see a lot of images that will need fixing and it will be made into an un necessarily long job with the way it functions at current. The euro artwork is what was scraped by launchbox and designated as North american. Probably all that was available, which is fine, and certainly preferable to a blank icon - but if you add something, it shouldnt need to know the region - it should apply to the game entry you added it for. So essentially the current default from the sounds of things (north american). thanks for explaining it even if it sound slike theres nothing I can do about it at the moment. I did find the bitbucket so I'll put in a feature request there and hope its considered at some point prior to me reaching the "refining" stage of my launchbox preparation
-
yes, region in the game details lists as North America. when i added the artwork, it did not go to the north america folder where the currently displayed artwork is located (the euro art) I left the priority as default which i believe was North America > United States in that order and as the only two checked Im partially not following I dont think or misunderstanding how add image in this case is supposed to function. One would "think" that irrespective of how you have your priority set, if you manually add an image through the GUI, it should show up in the list under Edit Game to be scrolled through. its certainly "in" the launchbox folder. I have a half dozen copies of it from trying to get it to function over and over lol manually added images should be added to whatever the priority folder is/default folder/folder associated with the game is in order to show up, after all thats why your adding them. Otherwise the option/feature loses a ton of its functionality if you have to go into explorer and move it manually anyways. (assuming thats what your getting at) Unless thats what its supposed to do and its not. no idea, hence my being here Ty for the reply btw.
-
worth mentioning my default is set to display boxart - front. This only happens if a boxart - front is present already. A game that was lacking a boxart - front and displaying the fallback 3d box, I was able to successfully add an image without trouble (a cover that displayed instantly as boxart - front)
-
Same question for feature requests - although thats not important atm. So as is probably obvious based on my post count - im a new user. Ive been adding as much as I can to my launchbox as quick as I can, but i run across items with artwork problems and if it irks me enough, i address it then and there. (attempt to anyhow) So far, pretty much every time - ive been unable to add artwork or unable to add it without jumping through significant hoops. Let me give you the current example that just put me here. (and what im attempting to report, as well as finding out where to report things in the future) I have a game that is displaying european artwork. I right click > edit> right click > add image and navigate to the american artwork. After selection, it displays in the Edit Game window. I select it, and click ok. The artwork on the entry stays unchanged. I refresh, the result is the same. Artwork still displaying euro. I right click > edit and look, and the artwork i added, seems to have disappeared. Simply not in the list anymore. Now if i use windows explorer to navigate to Images > platform > box - front I can see the image i added in the root of that directory. However it seems the image the entry is using, is coming from the sub directory "North America" I'm unsure if this is a user error thing, a launchbox shortcoming thing, or a bug. For some reason its either not placing the artwork in the folder needed to associate with the entry, or its not applying it properly irrespective of folder it gets placed in when added. This has happened a dozen times already. fortunately I have about 2 dozen more platforms to add so its not a huge deal to me, yet lol.

Steam Controller no longer works after updating to version 10.2-beta-2
klepp0906 replied to jedigu's topic in Beta Testing
Ironically enough - really strong chance it was literally the beta. I downgraded this morning, left to the gym - came home, put on my big boy pants and fired it up ready for more frustration and disappointment. Low and behold. the steam overlay wreaks havoc with it still which is a shame. it pops up improperly scaled, the graphics get stuck inside the screen/intermingled with the bigbox rendering etc. Ive disabled it for now, but the loss of functionality stinks, ESPECIALLY in this case where certain emulators could use from being able to change mappings on the fly (im looking at you cemu). still huge leap forward, now im faced with the more daunting prospecting of actually configuring it lol. The defaults wont do. Not with the options you guys have out there for themes n such. That coupled w/ my OCD - yea still gonna be a bit before i can play, but at least i can move forward One thing to note (i only caught this with the xbox one s controller) is during an attempt to test out the overlay and if it could be useable even with the glitchy scaling and rendering, when it popped up - my controller sort of hung and stopped working. I had to come to my pc to close bigbox/remote play that way and I saw that it had triggered steam to launch virtualhere which it shouldnt have done. Unsure if thats related to my previous problems (unlikely) or something unrelated to anything, or can help point to something that explains why the overlay and bigbox arent playing well (which is why i mentioned it). Its likely that if anything, the overlay causing some sort of breakdown in the passage of controls is what triggers virtualhere and not the other way around. Above my paygrade though >.< Either way, lessons have been learned. Ive always used betas, whenever I could. its the pc hobbyist in me i guess. Rarely has it ever presented any issue, even with the varying states of readiness that developers like to call beta. Still twice this week ive been bitten. Once with steam pushing that crazy library UI to the beta channel which wreaked havoc on my set up, and now (presumably) with this. (im certainly not going to roll back forward to find out lol) -

yw, thanks for all your work on the project. ive been really impressed thus far. Excited to flesh it out but Im not gonna put a minute more work into that until I figure out the control issue as that was by far my motivation for buying it. I'm getting old, my kids have beaten me up. When i game i do it from on my back in my bed lol. So far steam remote play has taken good care of me with minor obstacles along the way. Bigbox though I just cant get working no matter what I do. Do you think its possible that the controls not passing properly could be due to the fact im using a beta build? Is rolling back as simple downloading the stable version and extracting right over top? if so it would certainly be easy to test as a process of elimination at least. ive tried damn near everything else. -

klepp0906 replied to jedigu's topic in Beta Testing
wonder if its related to the issues im having. I literally JUST bought launchbox so beta 2 was my first go at it. the short of it is, I can control things fine at my pc, but over steam link with bigbox - cant even navigate the menus unless i map my controller to be a keyboard. this was tried with a steam controller. a xbox controller, and DS4 controller. -
The old story... controller not working in Big Box + Steam Link
klepp0906 replied to Middcore's topic in Troubleshooting
yea it wants to pass controls. If i hold a direction as it starts up, it'll scroll like 1 or 2 categories then stop. Also if you press the guide button and bring up the steam overlay while mashing a direction, it'll move a category or so before choking. has to be something to do with the window not taking or keeping focus. Not sure if its not drawn conventionally or its a shortcoming on steams side, but bigbox is the only time ive ran into this, at least so far.
