Beta 5 is out now with the following: Improved endless navigation in the new wall views Improved scrolling performance with the new wall views Corrected error when quickly scrolling through the search index Corrected error when returning to Big Box after launching a game through the wall views Improved the disposing of the FlowImage and FlowVideo controls Improved image caching logic and performance Fixed an issue where the FlowContext and FlowImage combination wasn't working correctly in platform wheel views Fixed an issue with scrolling when viewing manuals in Big Box We're doing more performance and memory testing with the upgraded wheels, CoverFlow and new wall views. Planning on spending this week focusing on bugfixes and performance improvements, and then hopefully we can put the official release out next week.

Program not exiting properly / Possible Corruption Issue
Jason Carr replied to DevarionArias's topic in Troubleshooting
Hmm, the 7-zip consoles still running is not normal and is probably the clue as far as what's going on. I haven't seen that happen myself, at least not recently. I can't think of any reason why they should still be running after the app closes. It's also possible that they could be the cause of the app not closing. But of course we need to pinpoint why they're not closing. Can you try unchecking this check box? That's something that you'll definitely want to keep checked in the long run, but it would good to know if that process is the one causing the issue. -
I see, interesting. I guess it's the first time I've really heard of that. What are the apps that require admin rights? Just to make sure it's not the issue, it would probably be good to test without admin rights to see if it happens to resolve the issue. It's a weird enough issue that it's not out of the question that it would be caused by the admin rights thing. No need to send us a bunch of log files again; we just need to know if you're still getting the issue without admin rights.

@LiL fleX Thanks for all that troubleshooting. One important thing to note first: it is never a good idea to run LaunchBox or Big Box as admin, and it should never be required. My first recommendation would be to stop running them as admin. We've seen some weird issues with that, so who knows, that could even be the stability problem. Why are you running it as admin in the first place?

Program not exiting properly / Possible Corruption Issue
Jason Carr replied to DevarionArias's topic in Troubleshooting
Hi @DevarionArias, LaunchBox works on saving all the data after it closes. So sometimes killing it like that can actually cause data issues. If lots of changes were made, sometimes it can take a bit to finish saving them. How long are you waiting for LaunchBox to properly close? -
In theory, Big Box supports "active marquees" with no issues if a theme developer built a theme that did it. We'll probably put something similar on the next poll. We do not plan to integrate Hyper Marquee (not much point in that), but we are interested in improving the Big Box marquee support.

Sorry for the late reply. You can create these folders: LaunchBox\Music\Background and then put your background music files there.
-
The new beta is out guys, so let us know if you're still experiencing issues with specific themes. Please turn on debug logging under Tools > Options > General > Debugging in LaunchBox and share the log files with us from when you get a crash; that will help us to figure it out. The log files are located in LaunchBox\Logs once you enable them.

Download link not working for email address
Jason Carr replied to EmulationNation's topic in Website/Forum Support
Welp, I'm really rather confused then. I just used Firefox to send you a download email (with your email address) without any issues. If the email isn't arriving, check your spam folder, of course. -
Hi @Wally, if you haven't reached out already, go ahead and make the purchase with your own email, and then contact us either with the contact us form, or at support@unbrokensoftware.com and we can get the license changed for the person you want to gift it to. Thanks!

Yes, unfortunately it's probably because that version of MAME is so old. You could use a newer version of MAME with the same older ROM set, but of course that will run you into issues as well. Older versions of LaunchBox in this situation would go ahead and run the import process, but it would have just imported games that won't always work with your ROM set and your version of MAME. So the best solution would be to download an updated ROM set and an updated version of MAME. Sorry I don't have better news.

Download link not working for email address
Jason Carr replied to EmulationNation's topic in Website/Forum Support
@EmulationNation Would like to get that resolved, if we can figure out exactly what the issue is. What browser are you using? Is it up to date? What version of Windows are you running? -
Hi @Camelo12, we'd rather there not be too many over-detailed genres in the database. Eventually, it would make sense to build nested genres with general categories and more specific children, but for now, card games can go under casino and roguelikes would go under Role Playing.

Hey all, beta 4 is out now with the following: Added a new FlowVideo control so that you can add Video elements to a FlowContext (FlowControl) - shown working in the Default theme's WallView2 Added a new FlowBadge control so that you can add badges to a FlowContext (FlowControl) - shown working in the Default theme's WallView3 Added a SelectedScale property to FlowControl so that you can scale the selected item Addressed several issues related to holding navigation buttons down in the wall views Corrected various animation issues when scrolling the wall views Corrected an issue where game details information wouldn't populate when first entering wall views Corrected issue that would make playing a game via the new wall views impossible when skipping GamesDetailView Corrected a rare data issue that could cause corrupted playlists to throw errors on LaunchBox startup Corrected an issue that would cause LaunchBox to error when importing ROM file names that end with "Disk" without a disk number Corrected reported issues of the FlowControl drawing more rows than set in the binding Corrected issue where clicking on Big Box with a mouse after being alt-tabbed would crash Big Box (newly introduced in these betas) This is a big one. Essentially we've added the ability to put videos and badges into the wheels, CoverFlow, and new wall views. As with the other betas for this version, there has been some major restructuring and major development, so we definitely need some heavy testing.

Hi guys, I believe this is because the *really old* MAME versions (like 8+ years old) don't have support for the -listxml feature that is required for the importer to work properly. Unfortunately your only options here are to either upgrade your ROM set and MAME version to something at least relatively modern, or use an older version of LaunchBox that just assumes that you have a modern version of MAME. However, even the older versions of LaunchBox would not have worked well with such an old version of MAME, because it would have imported a bunch of games that didn't previously work.

Launchbox keeps crashing when editing metadata
Jason Carr replied to jonnieboyrevel's topic in Troubleshooting
This isn't a thing that seems to be typical, judging by our feedback here on the forums. Still, it's good to know that it was causing the issue for you. What video playback engine were you using in LaunchBox? -
@Squalo I searched our support email for your email address (the one listed here on the forums) and I don't see anything in there. So for some reason, it doesn't look like we received it. If you are having trouble emailing us for some reason, you can always use the Contact Us form here on this site; that works too.

They should all be in there. Some translations might be missing because they're out of date, though.

Hi @vinylgamer, that CPU was released in 2012, so it's roughly nine years old. It only has two cores as well. I'm not overly familiar with the CPU beyond that, but unfortunately I would not expect that the system would be powerful enough to run Big Box with decent performance.
-
Yes, LaunchBox requires fairly decent, modern PC hardware. It is not as easy to run as Hyperspin. We work hard at optimizing the code to make it as performant as possible, but we use much newer and more modernized technologies than Hyperspin does, so better hardware is required.

Beta 3 is out now with the following: Improvement: The initial Add Games window that shows up for new users has been overhauled with all of the new import options Fix for custom images not drawing correctly Fix for sorting order incorrect FlowControl's "GameContext" was changed to "FlowContext" since it can be for a game or a platform FlowImage now has Stretch and StretchDirection properties Wheel views can now use the new controls We also have functionality working for putting videos and/or Badge images inside of the wall view items (and in theory wheel or CoverFlow items as well), but we're still fixing a few bugs with those, so that will be in a beta next week.

Awesome. Let's just start with Simplified Chinese for now. You can read the first few posts of this topic, which should give you instructions on how to get started. The Simplified Chinese translation package is there as well. Thank you very much for helping us out. Let me know if you run into any issues or have any questions.

BigBox Error Messages When Applying New Theme
Jason Carr replied to W3880's topic in Troubleshooting
Can you explain what you mean by "aren't linked to those folders anymore"? I don't understand how a symlink could be not linked. Maybe they're linked to the wrong folder? This might be a clue as to what's going on in rare situations, so it's worth figuring out. Thanks for chiming in. -
One of our policies is that we only take translations from native speakers. We do this in order to ensure high-quality translations. We definitely don't want to use Google Translate for the translations, because it's bound to result in confusion and subpar translations. Are you a native Chinese speaker then?
