Organizing ROMs after they have already been imported
SentaiBrad replied to GodSponge's topic in Noobs
Yea as long as you're moving drives then editing the XML in Notepad++ is simple really, but if you start going in to folders you'll need to do more passes with the Replace All function. That said, I have my roms in an Emulators\System\Roms Folder structure, the system folder being either the system name with emulators inside there or the system folder being an emulator folder directly with roms in there too. It really doesn't matter too much where your roms are, LaunchBox will read them the same. -
The guy who made that company also scares me. *shudder* I've never had a false positive with either Malwarebytes Anti Malware or IOBit's Malware Fighter (I don't usually use that second one, but it's still great and comes in Advanced System Care which I frikin love!) and the pro version is the best. It blocks malicious or certain connections going in and out (and tells you about it) and blocks certain known malicious sites from even loading. I've used this for 8 years now and it's been great if anyone wants to try it out.

Confessions (and Questions) of an Emulator Newbie
SentaiBrad replied to CadetStimpy's topic in Noobs
I've had failing discs images from certain sites but never a problem from No-Intro or Tosec, ever. So I agree with the above, as long as you get those sets it should be great. I'm also shocked MAME is recommended for Intellivision, but Nostalgia looks great. I honestly haven't bothered with systems that far out yet, but I might soon for a Tutorial on them. -
That's why a tiered image system is probably going to happen at some point so that users can change what they want on the front and it will help fill in the gaps of images. It's on the BitBucket.

Single Layered BluRays are 25GB, so some of that is probably junk data, but also you can go out and buy a Wii U and all of these games right now, so lets cool it a bit with the Cemu talk? I am all for this conversation but it's hard to condone when the console is still easily commercially available. If this was the 3DS emulator I'd be saying the same thing, the PS3 emulator not so much since that's almost out of production.

I forgot about that tool, also yea just plug your PS4 controller in and download a piece of software called InputMapper, it's what I use. If you have bluetooth built in or a dongle then InputMapper should be able to figure that out too.

SyrianBallaS said That's good to know, I have a ton of info on games ready in launchbox. Also I'd suggest allowing changes/additions to be made within LaunchBox and not just on the site. Yep, that was one of the first things Jason and I came up with together when we started working together like a year ago. We wanted to figure that out for GamesDB, and you see where that ended up. :P

Yea that line is in the Database Guidelines. I've approved Dragon Ball Z fanart for DBZ games, but that's different then a picture of a planet for an RPG.

Thanks for the kind words and the viewing, we're glad it's helping people out. If you want a super easy controller solution, grab a PS4 or Xbox One controller. Both work great and will automatically be pre-configured. Otherwise trying to configure a controller manually is a pain. I have a Generic N64 USB Controller that needs some work sometimes, but most of it's buttons are automatically set too. https://i.imgur.com/IzHVQja.png Just make sure that line under Input User 1 Binds has your device selected. If you start RA with your controller plugged in, it should automatically pick it up, but if not you can go in there and select it. The only other thing would be to make sure your path settings are correct for the System option, it didn't use to point to the System folder by default which is where your BIOS files should go when you start with the more complicated stuff. Otherwise you're not pestering us, so don't worry about it. :P

gamerforhire said Whaaaat, that's awesome! I'll definitely have to look into that, the whole "stacking" the games under one name. I'll give it a shot tonight. Side question: Do you know when you right-click, delete a ROM from LaunchBox, if it deletes the actual ROM or just the entry in LaunchBox? Thanks again for your help and quick answers! It just deletes the entry in LaunchBox. That feature is planned for the future though.

I saw, voted for it too.

It's a smart idea. Feel free to add it to the BitBucket, any one can suggest these things. Thanks for trying to find if someone else suggested it too, not a lot of users do that.

Personally I keep the exclusives from Europe and Japan, then everything else NTSC (USA / N. America). I also have a ton of English Translated Japanese roms myself. Otherwise I don't necessarily sort other than that. Later if I need a version of a game I got rid of (which has never happened actually) I would just grab that one. No Intro and Tosec sets are my favorites. Also, eventually there be an option to have the platform named what ever you want (in this case Famicom), and scrape it as another console (Nintendo Entertainment System (NES)). As you probably found out, some info was scraped as just 'Nintendo Entertainment System', but the official names are the only way we can guarantee the best level of scrap-ability. Once the display and scrape as naming is separate, this would be less of a problem but that is still a ways out. If you want more help then our Tutorial series would be a great place to start, especially if you are new to RetroArch. Even tutorials I did months ago still hold valuable information as each episode covers different platforms but also different subjects entirely, like patching a rom with IPS or BPS patching. Generally people say they start there. Otherwise, welcome to the forums and we appreciate you enjoying LaunchBox this much. If you do have more questions please feel free to ask them all you need. If you want to contribute any data you have to the LaunchBox Games Database then you are also free to do that if you wanna help out. Adding games will be in sometime this week hopefully, but you can edit existing games metadata and images. Also, as you can see from the two replies, we're ok with long posts. ;)

Outside of LB? You just load the core then load the cue sheet of the game you want to play. You have games launching so the cue sheets have the correct info inside, the only thing I can think of is trying a fresh cfg file (I would pull a clean one from the RetroArch download instead of deleting it and letting RA generate a new one for you), a completely fresh download with your system folder carried over or to double check your BIOS files. I had an RA version just crash on me before, but it was inside or outside of LB. Updating again is what fixed that problem (I update the nightlies every few weeks). Black screening and crashing is generally a BIOS problem, but you have games working in LaunchBox... so It might be a cfg problem if you load custom configs through LB?

That's a new one... it's always the other way around. That one stumps me honestly...
-
Nah, you're not an idiot. It happens to all of us. I am glad you got it fixed though, if you have more questions feel free to ask.

Unrar them and see if the game launches, my guess is yes.

Drybonz said I would use Antropus Lightspeed importing tool. There are enough filters included that you can completely and easily customize your game set. Easy as checking a few boxes. It will basically do exactly what you are wanting. https://www.launchbox-app.com/forum/emulation/lightspeed-ultra-fast-mame-importer-tool We realistically have the same check boxes for what to import and what not to import though, it doesn't really solve the problem. This is more a problem with how MAME is handled. I did forget about the hidden marker in LB though, that would be the best option @graf

Yea that should be one of the next updates this week. It should also come along with user names so that a mod knows who's making the edit, like if it's another mod.

So the last 24 hours I have been combing through what we have for SNES because I love Japanese games, and I have been finding a weird bug. Essentially, some games will have two front box art images, but when you click one it will be something completely different, usually a screenshot of the title. I had personally set it up so that games with missing artwork would have at least that, a long time ago now. Well some how the Database has mixed that up and assumes that the game has 2 Front Box Art's. I can even see that when I download the images for the game. When I download it though the second image doesn't show up and I get a proper front cover. https://i.imgur.com/XZyV2Id.png There is a screen shot to show what I am saying. When you click one of those the image completely changes. Jason knows of the bug, but sadly there isn't much we can do other than manually delete the wrong image. So if you see images from SNES being deleted that look like a proper box art, it's probably me, and they're an odd bug in the system.

Jason will be working on a way for users to take their submissions out of the moderation queue in case of errors or you've found something better since.
-
Also you said you haven't powered on the cabinent in a while? Are you updated to the latest beta? Jason recently got rid of some BigBox lag as well.
-
If all your other games are working but only 2 or 3 don't work, I would guess bad Rip. Certainly check the cue sheet first though.

Alternate Titles with the distinction of Language. Alternate Title (Japanese), Alternate Title (Greek), Alternate Title (French). That sort of thing.
