Launchbox and RetroArch 1.7.0 Troubleshooting
Lordmonkus replied to kidloser0426's topic in Troubleshooting
Bios go in the \system folder of your Retroarch folder but like I said those are only for the Sega CD and not for the regular Genesis games. As for why your games are crashing it out I am not sure what exactly would cause that. In Retroarch itself you should just be able to Load Core (load the Genesis core you are using, presumably GenesisGX) and then Load Content and browse to your games and load any of the roms up. If you are trying to load through Launchbox there could be a couple of different reasons such as an incorrect setting. -

For the cartridge based stuff and anything that has a No-Intro set, for the CD stuff Redump or Dark Water is recommended wherever possible. -

Ok for the Genesis itself it doesn't require any bios at all, it does need them for the Sega CD. If you look at the file extensions that are supported though make sure yours are of one of those types, .md and .bin are the most common Genesis rom extensions. As for where to get the bios I cannot tell you an exact spot to get them but if you look for the No-Intro rom set it does contain the bios files though they would need to be renamed. If you use Google though you should be able to find them. -

Are you trying to load a game in Retroarch on its own first ? What system and game are you trying to load ? Some systems require bios files and specific file types to work. If you just load a core and then go to Information > Core Information it will tell you that specific file extensions are supported and it will tell you what bios is any are required, it will tell you the exact file name (case sensitive) and MD5 checksums. Zip files are fine as long as the file inside is supported. -

You probably got a different video or menu driver selected in the drivers menu. XMB is the menu driver I have and is defaulted to with the GL video driver. Are you using on board video output ? If so it might be defaulting to the RGUI or something. -
Very nice, I like the "selected game" look much better.

Just the images folder would be fine, and videos if you have any of those as well. You could just copy your LB folder if you wanted, you would just have to adjust your emulator and rom paths if those are changing in the process.

You can go through all the services and disable anything you don't need. The link below has a chart for all the stuff you can tweak and recommended settings for performance. http://www.blackviper.com/service-configurations/black-vipers-windows-10-service-configurations/ You can remove all the unnecessary apps you don't want (with a couple of exceptions that simply won't allow their removal). https://www.howtogeek.com/224798/how-to-uninstall-windows-10s-built-in-apps-and-how-to-reinstall-them/

Hitting up arrow on keyboard takes me to Uplink(?!)

We just did some testing and can confirm this so we have passed it along to @Jason Carr -
Yeah it shows a screenshot if there is no video which is fine for most people, i'm just odd And i'm sure the yellow is just personal preference, other people probably like it. For me it's the white text with yellow highlight is not enough contrast making the game title a little rough to read but it's not like you can't just look at the clear logo at the bottom to see what it is either. Just minor stuff really.

Depending on how many games you have using a different core you may wanna create a 2nd instance of Retroarch in Launchbox called something like "Retroarch Alternate Cores" for example. That way you can have different cores being loaded with it for different platforms and then you can change the emulator for the game much more conveniently than setting the custom command line.

Ahh yes, we are fully aware of "Jacks" license it has been black listed for a while now. Why block it all of sudden ? It has been black listed but Jason put in some extra measures to prevent its use. Yeah it's DRM free for users to put on their own computers, not to pass around freely on the internet for whoever wants it. If you want your full BigBox functionality back all you have to do is purchase your own legitimate license and drop it in your folder after removing "Jacks" and it will work perfectly.

Launchbox and RetroArch 1.7.0 Troubleshooting
Lordmonkus replied to kidloser0426's topic in Troubleshooting
Hello and welcome, there are a few things to look out for though first make sure your Retroarch is setup and working with your games outside of Launchbox. I have a full written guide with pictures to help you with getting Retroarch setup if you are new to it and it can be found here: I also have a short tutorial video on setting up Retroarch with Launchbox which covers the basics and what to really watch for: -
@zeroa Unfortunately this means that somehow you're using a pirated license. Would you mind sharing where you got the license? You can easily recover all your effort by purchasing a legitimate license.

I think I understand what you are saying but if I am misunderstanding something let me know. Merged rom sets are not recommended for use with Launchbox at this point in time because how they are packaged makes it very difficult to determine which rom you want to run. We recommend Split or Non-Merged sets for now, plans for better supporting Merged sets are being made for the future and should be in the next batch of features on next poll in a couple of days. If you are trying to import 2 versions of the same game you will want to force LB to import duplicates, it is one of the options during import. I have this done for several Mame games that have 4 player and 2 player variants such as Gauntlet and TMNT for example.

It has a keypad you can bring up with a controller button so you can input keypad presses which a great many Intellivision games need.

new user, new install, Dolphin wont startup

You can check out a couple of videos on it, one is an older tutorial from Brad but still relevant and the other is from ETA Prime which covers some Launchbox installation that you may want to skip over. -
Not bad, I like the minimalist design but there are 2 things I would like to see different. One is the yellow highlight of the selected game is not something I like a whole lot, it makes the name of the game you have selected hard to read and it's a bit bright. The second thing I would like to see is if the user didn't have a video for the game it should show the box art
-
There is no "proper" name that is required or match up with some internal database naming. Launchbox does its best to ignore stuff in brackets and other junk in rom names but if you have really oddball named files it will throw off the the database scraping. We do recommend using No-Intro rom sets for cartridge based systems and Redump or Dark Water for CD based though since those are sensibly named.

Weird that it worked, still wondering what could be causing it and for that to be the fix.

Good to hear it worked, i'm guessing you were missing the command line parameters ? -
Hah, I have never seen that screen in RA Mame, didn't know it even had it.

The best way to deal with that for now is with notepad++ to do a find and replace all with the paths.
