  1. Other programs you may or may not need to resinstall, that really will be on a per program basis. Launchbox is designed to be portable so as long as your rom folder locations aren't changing drive letters or anything it should be fine outside of the dependencies I described in my first post.
  2. If you go into Settings (cog wheel) > Input > Input User 1 Binds and then User 1 Bind All it should go through the process of binding your controls. If things go the way I think they would set your C and Z buttons to L and R and for the actual L and R buttons on your Saturn pad set those to use L2 and R2. Then for the rest just don't press any thing and let them time out. If that doesn't work I really am at a loss as to what to tell you since I don't have or used that controller. Now, if the thought of maybe getting a new controller to use in place of it I can highly recommend one of the Hori Fighting Commander pads. I have one and absolutely love it, it has all the buttons you could need and an extremely good d-pad to go with it. The only thing missing from it would be analog sticks but it seems like you don't care about that since you are using the Saturn pad. https://www.amazon.com/HORI-Fighting-Commander-PlayStation-Officially-Licensed/dp/B01GVOFIAA/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1499197665&sr=8-1&keywords=hori%2Bfighting%2Bcomma Microsoft one if prefer the ABXY button naming: https://www.amazon.com/HORI-Fighting-Commander-Officially-Licensed-Microsoft/dp/B01MSEPQ55/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1499197665&sr=8-2&keywords=hori+fighting+commander
  3. It should be just fine. I did an update from Windows 8 to 10 a couple months ago with Launchbox on a separate drive and it was just fine. At most you should only have to reinstall .NET, Direct X and / or Visual C+ run times but that is all.
  4. Hmm, you should be able to press left or right til the button on the right hand side corresponds with the one you want to use on the controller. If you go into the normal controller set (not the core one) under the Settings (cog icon) > Input > Input User 1 can you setup all your controls in there ?
  5. Well "looks amazing" is very subjective, I think it looks like shit but that's only my opinion of it. I would imagine though that this is something that could be implemented along side regular bezels.
  6. I'd rather see actual bezel support first and I don't even care about bezels to begin with.
  7. I might be wrong here but maybe you could use an autohotkey script similar to this one from this thread for each emulator.
  8. If you load up a Saturn game and then bring up the Quick Menu > Controls does it look like this ?I know the stuff on the right hand side is probably going to look different because I am using a Hori FC pad but do you have the bindings for everything on the left ? Unfortunately I don't have a USB Saturn controller so I cannot say anything about it.
  9. This is a simple one for me. Ease of use. Before Launchbox I tried most of the other front end options and Launchbox was the only one where I had it up and running loading games with an emulator in 5-10 minutes without the need to read or watch a tutorial video first.
  10. The database is a constant work in progress and does work fine for the vast majority of stuff. It certainly isn't 100% perfect but it certainly is 95% or better as long as your games names are not completely jacked up. No one is dumbing it down but it is a databse built (and still being built) from scratch due to problems with the previous database and reliability issues. The old database tied into thegamesdb.com but there were problems with it being online so the decision was made to build our own and like I said is a constant work in progress. Building a database is a very big job and volunteers are working on it every day. There is no push back. I am repeating myself here but the DB is a big job and is a work in progress. Feel free to contribute to it if you have the time and desire to help make it better. This is where I do take issue though. You complain that the DB isn't complete but you find it unacceptable to work on helping to make it better when you have the assets yourself. Yeah, and in everyones perfect front end world it would just be install and go with every single little thing done for you and even reads your mind for you so you don't have to push any buttons to launch a game right ?
  11. There is nothing preventing anyone from just importing anything they want into any platform they want and not have Launchbox try and scrape it. You could then just do what you would have to do with any other front end in terms of artwork which is to obtain it and drop it into its appropriate folder and as long as it is named correctly it will just work.
  12. Yes, it is false equivalency. The reason being every emulator has a UI of some sort and in the case of Retroarch it is the UI for the cores / emulators that it runs. Whether the UI is a traditional Windows like UI that you see in most emulators or it's the PS3 style UI it is still just the UI to configure it all.
  13. It's all good, I wasn't taking it as an attack at all. Jason still does base his new features off the Bitbucket stuff but I think the problem is the requests are piling up on there and he uses the polls to help decide where to focus in on. I'm just hoping with this thread I can nudge him in the direction of polishing up existing features before adding some new features.
  14. @JaysArcade Bitbucket is used for bug reports and a way for people to voice what sort of features they would like. Once a suggestion on Bitbucket gets enough votes then it gets considered for a spot on the poll. As far as this thread is concerned this is my own personal initiative to get an idea on what sort of already existing features could use a coat of "spit and polish" to refine them a bit more instead new features.
  15. Yeah you need the UI version to audit the roms, though I think there is a command line parameter to audit as well (not sure though). And yeah Mame updates every month, this has been a thing for quite a while now. You don't have to update though unless there is a new game added that you HAVE to play or there is a new feature that really is worth it.
  16. Ok if it was a full set that makes life easier. Weird though if you are using both rom set and Mame version 185 and running into issues with games. I guess the next question is do you know if was a merged, non merged or split rom set ? merged can be problematic with Launchbox due to how they are packaged up, non merged and split work best.
  17. Yeah if using the UI version of Mame open it up and find the game you are having troubles with. Right click and there should be an "audit" option in the menu, click that and it should say if the rom is ok or if there is a problem with a missing file and what file it is expecting to find that file in. Bios files for Mame go right in the folder with all your Mame roms. I should ask though, did you download a full set or an update pack ? If it was an update pack and you just copied them into your Mame roms folder then I got some bad news for you. Update packs only contain updated rom files within the actual rom zip file. For example if you looked inside game.zip you would see a bunch of files such as 1.rom 2.rom 3.rom 4.rom Then an update for game.zip came out with an updated 2.rom file they don't put all 4 .rom files in it with the new 2.rom. The update game.zip file would only contain the updated 2.zip. You would need to use a tool like clrmamepro to combine the update rom pack into your old rom set. This is done for overall file size and bandwidth reasons.
  18. More often than not if you are having troubles with certain games not working in Mame it is a missing parent or bios file. It only becomes a Launchbox configuration issue if no games are loading at all. But since you mentioned Capcom games like Street Fighter there was a change in Mame 186 where you need an updated Qsound.zip bios file. You didn't say which version of Mame you are using. If you want to check what could be causing the issue of a game not loading you can audit the rom if using the UI version of Mame. If using the command line version open up a command window and go to your Mame folder and type in: mame64.exe sf2 as an example, just replace sf2 to the name of the zip file for the rom you are having trouble with. If there is a problem it will tell you in the command prompt window what it is looking for and cannot find.
  19. I always approach the topic of "best" emulator in terms of the whole package and that is where Retroarch for the 8, 16 and 32 systems as a rule are "best" for me. In some cases the Retroarch cores are in fact the best in every single way while other cases there may be a stand alone emulator is technically better in terms of accuracy but the difference is so minuscule that when combined with the benefits that Retroarch does bring it edges out the stand alone option. Two examples I will use here is Genesis and SNES. For the Genesis while Fusion was and still is a very good emulator the Genesis Plus GX core surpasses it in every possible way. It is more accurate, plays more games and has all the benefits of Retroarch. For the SNES while Higan is a fantastic emulator and is for all intents and purposes 100% accurate but it is cumbersome for front end use. Meanwhile in Retroarch we have the BSnes Accuracy core which is built off of an older version of Higan (back when Higan was actually called BSnes). While Higan itself has progressed and BSnes is built from an older code base has pretty much all the features required and many of the advancements Higan has made have been backported into the BSnes cores in Retroarch. So while Higan is possibly technically better under the hood the BSnes core is pretty much on par and it brings the benefits of Retroarch with it. I will generally only use a stand alone emulator over a Retroarch core when the stand alone is obviously superior. PPSSPP and Dolphin are 2 key examples but I also use the NES emulator puNES over Retroarch because puNES has support for Retroarchs shaders and is nearly 100% accurate. puNES gives me a significant accuracy and compatibility gap while also giving me shaders and palette choices, this makes it worth using over the Nestopia and Fceumm cores.
  20. If you can provide some more information on your computer like the CPU, GPU, RAM and operating system that might help some. I cannot say that no one has ever reported similar behavior but it is very rare. I have not noticed any performance loss in any emulator due to BigBox and I run it on a couple of systems ranging from a moderately decent gaming PC to a 10 year old PC with a somewhat okish GPU in it (not on board video). I just did a quick test to see how much CPU was being used by BigBox while running Demul and as you can see in the attached screencap it is using very little CPU resources. Although we have a thread dedicated to tweaks that you can use to improve the performance of BigBox itself there may be some tips there that can help increase your systems performance overall alleviating your issues.
  21. You can also go into your \LaunchBox\Data\Playlists\ folder and delete the .xml file for the playlist you no longer want.
  22. Thanks, I kept that one extremely simple and to the point and it applies to pretty much all the other cores.
  23. Atari 2600, 7800 and Jaguar I use and suggest Retroarch and their respective cores for those systems. Though keep in mind no matter which way you emulate the Jaguar it is going to be hit and miss, that's just how things are with it right now. As for Atari 5200 have a read on my thoughts on it in this thread here: There is a new Atari800 core in the works and not in the official downloads yet but it supports the 5200 and is quite nice already but does require some setup to get it working.
  24. Feel free to post asking for it over in this thread here. I am compiling a list of small things to polish up on current features in Launchbox already.
