  1. I am with you on the skipping MESS part, but this MAME/MESS integration, I think, is worth looking into. There just doesn't seem to be any documentation on how to set it up. The same can be said about the newest MAME RA core which I understand should also support Mess systems now.
  2. I'm not exactly sure when it happened, but I recently learned that MAME absorbed MESS. Tonight I wanted to sit down and get MAME 171 running, and maybe also the latest RA MAME core which I also hear will emulate MESS systems. The problem: I can't find any documentation on how to set this up. So my questions Does the new MAME require a set of MESS Bios? If so where to put them? If not... what? (I tried putting them into the roms folder in the mame directory, doesn't see them there) Same question for the RA MAME core. Any other tweaks needed to get these working? Thanks! PS, my final question: What is the plural form of Bios?
  3. Even after the update, connecting 2 Xbox One controllers wirelessly to windows freezes up LaunchBox. I wasn't going to post about it here, because LaunchBox isn't the only thing that's affected. Has to be a windows issue, or something. If I have two controllers plugged in and try and open LaunchBox, nothing happens. Then, If I take the batteries out of one of the controllers, LaunchBox immediately pops open. Anyone able to connect 2 Wireless Xbox One controllers with no problems?
  4. Not necessary, niche really. But I extract to a flash drive, for instance, to save the rewrites (I leave the games I play the most extracted). I also was reading that you can turn extra RAM into temporary storage and extract there. Personally, I don't think I'd go that far. Still, the feature is a good one to have, thanks for that!
  5. Dude awesome! So does it extract the rom to a directory we can choose? does it leave there, or can we have LB autodelete the extracted version?
  6. That's awesome! I want to ask a bunch of questions, but I'll test it later as well.
  7. You need to also make sure you're using the same version of MAME as your roms. I had an old set of NEO GEOS that didn't work at all. Updated ones work fine. (I'm not sure if this is true for the RA cores)
  8. Rocketlauncher will automatically unzip your roms for you and launch them through LaunchBox. There's a quick setup guide on this forum and plenty of other guides on the official forums.
  9. Official HyperSpin xmls don't include any file extensions. If you created your own xmls based on your rom path, they'll include the extensions but if you're using the official hyperspin stuff, you shouldn't have any problem. Don't quote me though, I'd manually rename one and test. The HS artwork shouldn't be affected either.
  10. My older sister had the nes, so mario/duck hunt was the first video game I ever played. As far as I know or remember, my parents never bought a single other game for it. The first console I had was the amazing.... VTECH SOCRATES https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VTech_Socrates#/media/File:Vtech_socrates.jpg Just last year I was finally able to emulate a game from it, and the memories. In the early 90s they bought me the SNES. In 1994ish my cousin and I took first and second place in the Donkey Kong Country contest at the local blockbuster, and we were able to rent 2 games for free every 2 weeks for the next year. It was this period that I became a fanatic. In case youre wondering, I took first place on that first day, but my parents wouldn't take me back on day 2, and his parents took HIM, and he beat my score. So he took the gold, me the silver. My first computer, maybe one of you can help me out, cause I can't even find it on google. It was a screen with a keyboard attached, like all in one. I THINK it ran DOS... as I think there was a command prompt, but there was also some kind of rudimentary operating system... My Uncle had bought it to use for work, he was an Accountant. It had... like a rudimentary Rolodex and calculator. There was no mouse or anything, you had to do everything on that keyboard. In retrospect, my uncle tossed the awful thing and my day snatched it and gave it to me as a gift. He acted like it was my fault I couldn't have any fun with it. Much later my dad bought another computer and AOL, and my first PC game was either Lands of Lore, or Redneck Rampage. I can't remember which came first. I had played a few other DOS games, Oregon Trail, Leisure Suit Larry, and Commander Keen, at friends or at school by that time.
  11. but LB did not re-add the platform in the platform list on the left I've noticed this happens if you add a platform without adding any games. If you add just one game with the platform it'll show up. I didn't report it as I wasn't sure if this was intentional, although now that I think about it, because LaunchBox is Drag and Drop, you should be able to add a platform with zero games.
  12. This may be obvious, but its actually really easy in LaunchBox to have just those three games Launch with Mame. I understand the desire for unification and symmetry on the back end though (as in only using 1 emulator). Keeps things more clean. Just in case you didn't know, you can right click those games in Launchbox, click edit, and change the emulator they launch with. I have over 100 emulators installed because its been my experience that no single emulator offers 100 percent compatibility. Having said that, I still use RetroArch for MAME and just ignore the quirks. If I ever hit a wall that makes a game I want to play unplayable, I'll just switch that game over to Mame.exe. Unfortunately, you seem to have tried all the ideas I know about in terms of how to fix the audio within RA.
  13. I have been experimenting with using the Dualshock 4 controller for the last week or so, and have had nothing but problems with it. I am running Windows 10 with the controller plugged into USB, and cannot get the controller to stay in exclusive mode for any length of time. It always seems to disconnect and reconnect, and change out exclusive mode when it does, which then adds a second controller to windows and stuffs up retroarch. I have tried InputMapper and DS4Windows, and the issue is there with both. I can get the controller to connect with bluetooth, but the latency was very high as soon as I started playing any game, and the input lag would be awful! Might have to just switch back to the wireless 360 controller, which I have never had any issues with connecting. This is exact process and problems I went through with it. It sucks too because it could have been the one. I switched back to the 360.
  14. Pardon my ignorance, I've never really used Mameuifx. At least, not to its full potential, it seems. What benefits does it have over standard Mame if you're launching through a front-end like LaunchBox already?
  15. That command looks wrong to me. Shouldn't it start with the associated platform? For instance: Super Nintendo -p LaunchBox -f "H:\LaunchBox\LaunchBox.exe" -s "Super Nintendo Entertainment System" -r I also notice that Commodore Amiga seems to be missing from the Platforms list in LaunchBox. Maybe it hasn't gotten there yet, and this is messing up the command. Does AmigaDOS emulate any other commodore system? If so, maybe try setting that up if its already listed as a platform in Launchbox.
  16. I must be old, but I had a scooby doo lunchbox until like high school.
  17. You know, I did this one for BizHawk a long time ago, before it supported autofullscreen. The Send keypress wouldn't work until I had it WAIT for a while. I can't remember exactly how I did it, but I figured out that the keypress was happening too quick, before the emu was ready for the command. I don't remember how, but you could try having the script wait for a moment before sending the keypress. Also do forgive me for not being more helpful, the only reason I'm here right now is that work sent me home with a 102 fever. I"m pretty loopy.
  18. Yeah. Its: Send, !{Enter} There's a whole bunch of other stuff in the module, WinGetPos, Loop, Sleep. I don't want to just post someone elses work, but the Send Keypress is as stated above.
  19. Ah. I apologize. I didn't see where you had posted a working script.
  20. Alright. Firstly, I can read AHK about as well as I can read Latin, which is to say, alright but not that well. It looks to me like the module (AHK Script) RL uses to make Desmume go fullscreen is a send keypress. The module also does some sleep stuff so that you can't see the emu going fullscreen, it just pops up like that. If you really want, you can download RL and the AHK script is located in RocketLauncher/Modules/Desmume. I just tested it though, I can say for certain that it works right out the box. Setting a game to verticle is almost just as easy, and you can do it one of two ways. The first is by populating a ini with a list of the games you want to be verticle. (This ini also comes installed with rocketlauncher, same folder as the module, however the name has (example) amended on the back of it, so it won't be used until you delete that. An easier way is just a few clicks in the UI. Example below:
  21. Some emulators have a "allow multiple instances of this emulator" option you might be able to turn off.
  22. I'm not sure of the extent of the functionality, honestly, as I've never needed the feature, and my RL Hayday was about a year ago. Also, since I never used the feature, and I've only really tested a few DS games, I'm hesitant to speak further on it. I figured there would be something about it on the wiki, but there isn't. However, if you give me an example of a game that requires a different orientation, when I get home from work, I can test it out and report the steps back. I'm pretty confident though that its possible to automate it, and I know the AHK script it uses to launch Desmume lets you launch it directly into fullscreen. I'm not sure what method it uses, but I could also read the module and figure that out if there's interest.
  23. The RetroArch core for MESS doesn't really work either. It does work. And well, actually. However, I could never get it to work for myself. Someone uploaded a version of RetroArch to an FTP with the mess core working (this was a while ago) and I have that version of RA (I think its a random nightly from last year) MESS core works fine and I threw a lot of old obscure systems at it. Its not fully featured, like I don't think there is savestate support etc. but, for me at least, every system I would care to use a savestate already has a much better emulator than Mess. Overall I do agree with the sentiment though, MESS is a Mess.
  24. RocketLauncher handles game rotation and fullscreen Desmume launching. Just an FYI.
