  1. fromlostdays OP says he has it working outside of LB so I would assume that if the core can run .zip files then LaunchBox would Launch them since it is really only dependent on what the emulator or core in RA's case can do. I'm like 90 percent sure RA doesn't mess with zips with the exception of just a few cores like Mame and FBA. If you select a zip file in RA it'll give you the option to "Run as zip" or something and it never works. It also gives you a another option which I think extracts the contents and then runs, or something, and that works. But LaunchBox doesn't automate that. He just needs to unzip them games. AND reinstall them into launchbox unzipped.
  2. Also, you can't run zips to RA directly from launchbox. (At least I don't think you can.) I use RocketLauncher to unzip my files, but really what you need to do is delete all your games from launchbox, unzip them, then readd them. Try this with one game to test.
  3. Yeah man. Just read through it again. I can't even tell you're not a native speaker. So now double thanks for writing in English as my German is non existent, heh.
  4. Much love and gratitude Cid. Having gone through the process years ago (and with much worse guides), you're inspiring me to get back on this.
  5. I had only marginal success with the DS4. All kinds of issues on windows 10 using the Ds4windows method, including conflicts with my other controllers. But it did work.... somehwhat. However, I bought a 20 dollar insignia bluetooth dongle for the PC, and my DS4 continually disconnected from just a few feet away on my couch. Plus its one more thing you have to run in the background compared to the 360 which is plug and play. I got fed up with the DS4 and gave up by the end of it. I also wouldn't say the DS4 is vastly superior to the 360 controller. The only thing it does better is the D-Pad, and even that benefit is marginal compared to a Wii Classic controller. DS4 analogs lose considerably to the 360. 360 Dpad is unusable. Wii Classic analogs are just awful. ... Maybe I'm just bitter... haha. I thought the DS4 would be the one so I never had to switch between 360 and Wii Classics again. If it had worked better for me, it very well could have been. But even then I wouldn't have said it was the best at anything.
  6. Yeah, I'm in the midde of a playthrough and it just happened to be the first game I tested. I ran a few more and didn't see any problems. Its a fantastic game. I keep seeing you mention using a high internal resolution for N64... Do you mean in RetroArch? There is a core option in there for resolution, but if I put it any higher, the entire play screen shrinks and I can't find any setting to stretch it. We're a far cry from just talking about shaders now, but thanks for all the advice.
  7. Yes, tested without shaders first. Still there. However, I turned "Dirthering Pattern" OFF (I think it was set to "1x Native" automatically and that fixed SOME of the issues. Mostly the broken background images, and if you look at the first screenshot in the bottom left box where they show the hit percentages, you can see a few little white dots. It fixed those too. I still have that dark bar across the center of the menu screens, unfortunately. Thankfully, it doesn't show up in game.
  8. I just got home and immediately tried the RA MEdnafen core upscale of the internal resolution. I see a slowdown at 4x, complete computer lock up at 8x, but at 2x I'm seeing Playstation like I've never seen it before. Its freaking gorgeous. Here's Chrono Cross with 5xbr+crt 2 passes linear, and 1 linear pass of Natural Vision (If you don't use this shader, try it, its in the misc folder, makes the colors pop, but does darken it a bit) However, seems like there's a cost. These anomalies appear regardless of 16:9 stretch, core provided ratio, or integer scaling on or off. Is there a way anyone can think of to fix this? I'm tempted to just leave it as the rest of the game looks so good.
  9. I didn't see this addressed, but you can certainly use your HS media for LaunchBox, at least, I've done it with boxes and videos. You can even leave them in your hyperspin folder, you just have to set the path (and be sure to refresh). Also welcome Keltoigael.
  10. I was having the same kind of issues, wanting to use Xbox controllers for PS1, N64 etc, but wii classic controllers for snes etc. On top of that, somehow the ids for my classic controllers are all messed up in windows, it was a nightmare. I did what Brad suggested and unplugged the thing. I'm going to try setting it to mode 1 as Drybonz suggests, and I'll report back, but I'm glad someone brought this up, as dolphinbar and 360 controllers do not place nice together.
  11. How to change the default scrapped artwork, how to correctly add (and subtract) games, a nice explanation on launchbox's directory structure, systems that require some special steps to import (DOS, MAME).
  12. But games that have a more "realistic" look like Final Fantasy 3 and Contra 3 those shaders really start to look bad IMHO I absolutely agree that one set of shaders per SYSTEM doesn't really cut it. Not to get too tangential, but is there a way to have RA launch Shaders per game? As of right now, I have RocketLauncher launching a per System config, but I'd be willing to go another route, at least for some games like you mentioned that SABR etc. doesn't work well for. Lastly, is that true about internal res scaling on the medafen core?! I did a lot of searching recently about it, and I mostly found posts by the mednafen devs saying they would never do it. (I don't blame them, they make a good point on some emulators should be accuracy based, some should be "best experience" based.) If so, I'm really excited about that. It must be an update of the core that was released after the new version of RA, as I haven't updated the core since then and do not have the options.
  13. On the other hand, I like the cartoony look. Never really got the scanlines either, EXCEPT on games like Super Mario Kart and Donkey Kong Country. I know it isn't as popular, but here's a showcase of Sabr v3: Compare that to XBR and for SNES at least, SABR wins: You can see the difference in the path leading to the cave. For Nintendo 64, I find 2 passes of linear Advanced-AA to be awesome: I am never satisfied with shaders for PS1. Oddly enough, I don't want to dull the edges fo this system, and would prefer some crisp polygons, but I have no idea how to go about it.
  14. For my two cents, this definitely sounds like it should be user contribution, and unless there is some starling breakthrough in graphics, there's no reason at all to do a video on an emu release. Not just a thread, but a dedicated section of the forum. ANDDDDD, unpopular opinion, but to save the credibility, accessibility and general sanity of it, you should only let a select few post to the section. People like you (Brad) and DOS and others who can actually parse the information in a changelog. Who bother testing, and can even speak on comparisons. Then let the COMMENTS be open to everyone. In that way, you guys would be more like journalists, you'd have an entire section of informative posts like these, and it would keep itself organized. It would also draw traffic to this site. Just my thoughts.
  15. As far as resolution goes, under Video, I set the Aspect Ratio Index to Core Provided. This way it is the proper aspect ratio for the RetroArch config that everything else was based on. If I need to change a cores aspect ratio later I only apply the change to that systems new custom config. I am with you though, I don't like the image to be stretched either. SNES should be in a box on your screen. However, I don't use fullscreen, and very short testing I can't figure out how to keep the aspect ratio correct in fullscreen either. Hopefully someone else figured that one out. I always run fullscreen (I read it reduces input lag) with SNES keeping 4:3 and black borders around it. I've never had a problem doing it, so I'm sort of unsure what results you two could possibly be getting? My settings: Full Screen = True Aspect = Core Provided The only other thing I can think of is that I have to turn... er i'm at work and I can't remember exactly but its something like "Integer Scaling" .... (same menu as fullscreen etc.) off. If I don't, the play screen just becomes a smaller box and doesn't reach the top and bottom of the screen. 1. I'm trying to get shaders working in SNES9X Next through RA, but not having much luck. When I apply a shader in RA, it doesn't seem to change anything visually. I could however get the 2x filter working through the RA menu (which is the look I'm going for - high res). I enabled shaders, chose 1 pass, selected the .cg shader (e.g. hq4x.cg), apply changes - but no difference. Is there something I'm missing there? Do any video settings e.g. bilinear filtering affect the shaders? I've never noticed any change using an hq4x filter on snes. I'm not even sure what its supposed to do. Maybe RetroArch fails on this one? At any rate, you seem to be applying the shaders correctly, it just doesn't have any affect that I could notice. Personally, I actually like the rounded cartoony look, and Sabr was a MUST... until I discovered XBr. There IS a shader that will make the image sharper and pixilate it a bit.... I think its called Sharp Bilinear.... and its either in the "Retro" folder or the "Misc" folder by default, can't remember which one. FYI I run BSNES Accuracy Mercury and as long as I have the dsp roms in the systems folder, its absolutely accurate.
  16. 3. I have added emulators and games, is there anything else I haven't thought of that will make the experience more streamlined from the sofa? This might seem like an odd answer to that question, but as a fellow Coucher, I recommend using RetroArch for every system it will emulate (many many of them). Here's why: Without taking my hands off the controller, (I have to open Kodi first, but I'm going to shell it soon): kodi is open, automatically syncs with my 360 controller. Navigate to bigbox. Bigbox is open, automatically syncs with my 360 controller, just one time set up. Navigate to game. RetroArch is now open, emulating game. RA automatically syncs with my 360 controller, no set up required, but I have some button mapping tweaks. Play Game. Realize I want to change a setting in RetroArch. Press in both sticks and this brings up the RetroArch Menu, which looks nice and can also function as a Pause. Menu auto synced to controller as well. Change shader, control settings, anything I want. Resume game. Now I'm done playing. To exit I can set keys to close RA in BigBox, OR I can reopen RA menu and just choose exit game from there. I'm back at BigBox. Navigate to Exit. I'm back on Kodi, play music while I cook dinner. I did all of this without taking my hands off the controller, with absolutely minimal set up, and without using Xpadder or Joy2key at all. Just a thought. Especially because you can bind "Open RetroArch Menu" to controller, it is the best for Couches IMO.
  17. You guys think the updates are worth switching from the wonderful compatibility of mednafen, or in my case RA with mednafen core, to Epsxe with these updates? I'd really like your opinion on it, in terms of compatibility, speed, hacks, saves, overall functionality, controller support and graphics etc. I play a lot of PS1 games. Also, I can't see the updates because the site is blocked at my work.

    MAME

Deadpool. Is. Awesome. I'm pretty antisocial but even I'll go to theaters. Why wouldn't you.... nevermind. I been meaning to ask where launchbox gets it info in order to parse the romset like that? How reliable are those settings? Lastly, will LaunchBox experience any slowdown if I import thousands of mame games? I'm really trying not to do it (import them all), but picking your favorites out of ten thousand arcades is.... daunting.

    MAME

Have only imported a few games, and there are mulitple threads on here you want to look at, but for starters call the Platform "Arcade" and not "Mame". This allows you to use some of the nifty mame import features of LB like excluding clones and preferring regions. https://www.launchbox-app.com/announcements/new-list-of-emulator-settings-and-mame-import-tools https://www.launchbox-app.com/forum/emulation/tool-to-import-metadata-for-mame-roms-from-mame-dat-or-arcadehits-net/page-2
  20. This is the video I followed: its pretty generic, uninstalling bloat and turning off certain services. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DwiHog2leMM
  21. Tangentially, I have almost 100 configs in my old RA setup I use with HyperSpin, all set up on some nightly from last year, all using the old GUI, and not optimized for my current display. I didn't want to change each config individually, and honestly I have too many systems on that setup, stuff I'll never really use except to show off to friends occasionally e.g Konix Multi System with 3 games. I decided with LaunchBox to focus on the dozen or so systems I actually use. It might be taboo to say here, but I actually have LaunchBox set to launch HyperSpin if I ever feel like scrolling through 50k games. Plus, I learned a lot about RA in the interim and so in the end it actually was easier just to make the new configs. I actually carry two versions of RA now. The newest one I was setting up in the LaunchBox folder, and my old one I renamed to RetroArchMess (as in I use it mainly for the mess core). At any rate, I played ALOT of PS1 games and also set up PS2 and got dirty with some old Devil May Cry last night but still no crash. I think there might be something to the idea that I had RocketLauncherUI open a lot when it was crashing. Or maybe it just doesn't like too much running in the background.. like Chrome, torrent service, etc. I also recently watched a video on how to optimize windows 10 for gaming and went through those steps, so maybe that helped? Just occured me, the only other thing that was different is that now I have my mayflash dolphinbar unplugged completely. Did that to see if I could get a handle on how windows and RA handle multiple 360 controllers. DOS, do you use the dolphinbar? I want to emphasize that for me it was crashing 2 or three times a night, not just occasionally. Now, seems to have stopped crashing completely.
  22. As someone who is shitlisted, can confirm its real, and also that PD is the best place to get up to date mame roms. Can also confirm that Clrmamepro works like a charm for updating, but I don't think its easier. Just faster. After I learned how to do it, I still just redownloaded the newer sets, as its one click then forget about it. Also Bitgamer has the 169 set, but its not complete. At this point I'm with SentinelBrad, I just don't try anymore.
  23. RocketLauncher does allow you to use AHK scripting for controller support. I don't personally use it, but the more I use Windows 10, the more I'm seeing SOME kinds of bugs.
  24. Since I posted this, it hasn't crashed once. And I left AHK set to on. I even had Chrono Cross paused for like an hour last night, as company came over, and when I got back everything was still working fine. The only thing I can think of is that when this was happening frequently, I was doing a lot more with RocketLauncher and LaunchBox in terms of set up. RocketLauncherUI was pretty much always open in the background, and I had usually added or subtracted some games or artwork or systems or something. I was also launching a lot, as I had just downloaded the latest version of RetroArch and was rebuilding my per system configs. More action in other words, but that's all I got.
  25. you have to be more specific man. But check and see if the one that won't import is in the ALL section. If it is, delete it.
