  1. I'm working a playlist video theme for Metal Vinnie's Black Box Collection, but I'd be happy to try making one for Metal Slug once I finish that one. I mocked up a couple of Metal Slug Collection Clear logos, too. If you like one over the other, I could use that one for the video. Or if you like neither, I can come up with something else :D

  2. I probably won't add it to the existing theme because it would make it too busy and unless you have clear logos for the games featured, it would look off next to the other clip that does have the logos. What I can do though is add this clip as an alternate version of the existing theme. Then people can have two options for whatever gameplay they want to see. I'll make the edit tomorrow with your footage and upload it as an alternate for you :). Thanks for providing!

  3. Hacks & Fan-Made Playlist Theme Video (16:9)

    View File

Hey Guys & Gals - I decided to re-visit making a theme for a Hacks & Fan-Made platform/playlist category (I think this is technically 3.0 of the theme). This was the first video I made after first starting to use After Effects back in late January/early February. I'm still no pro, but I've been wanting to learn to use cameras and lights, so thought I'd try a little with this theme. Once I really get the hang of those things, I might try a really epic theme video with swooping camera angles and lots of 3D goodness, but that is probably a ways off.

In any case, hope you all enjoy the new theme! You can use the image used for the thread if you need a clear logo and, I've linked the original theme below, too. Hopefully I've made some progress in skill since doing it :D:

Pixel art banner. Just put in the Banner folder in your Hacks/Fan-made Playlist folder.

  4. I'll take a look at that. I do have Virtual Jaguar configured to open fullscreen. I haven't run into any issues yet for systems I have emulated with RA cores.

I'm on that latest PCSX2 version that was released 2 days ago. Pretty sure dev-263 is pretty outdated, but with the frequency that PCSX2 and Dolphin/Ishiiruka get updated, who can keep up? :D

I just finished getting ScummVM working with Fades/Bezels, so I just have Amiga, MSX and Arcade Classics left to go, so I'll circle back to these problem platforms and hopefully find a solution... at least for the fades to work right with PS2/Gamecube/Wii/WiiWare; don't really need Bezels for them, but I generally prefer keeping games at their native aspect ratio, so it'd be nice to have the Bezels for them.

  5. I had no idea about that! Still fairly new to RocketLauncher in general. I checked the module's notes and for Virtual Jaguar, I'm on the version of the emulator specified. It does "technically" load the bezel; you just don't see it until the Fade out. I'm going to try a Retroarch core and see if it fares any better.

For Dolphin and PCSX2, I am on the latest dev releases, which is newer than what is specified to use, so maybe they need to update the modules for these platforms.

I figured out the image issue after I posted this :D

    Thanks for the information!

  6. Hi all,

For any of you that are savvy in the world of RocketLauncher, I'm wondering a couple of things. I recently decided to add Bezels and Fades through RocketLauncher and I have most systems setup great (thanks for the fantastic Fades @RetroHumanoid!). However, a handful of systems don't work right. All of the Fades are working, but, in some cases, the Bezels won't load or in a couple of cases, the Fades load, but the emulator appears to timeout. Additionally, on some of the Fade screens, I have an extra system logo appearing (screenshot example will be below). I'm hoping someone can help me fix these little issues.

    Systems with Bezel problems:

Atari Jaguar (emulator: Virtual Jaguar) - The Bezel technically loads. After the initial Fade when launching the game, the Bezel is not visible when the emulator starts. However, after exiting the emulator, the Bezel appears for a brief second before the Fade out screen displays.

Gamecube/Wii/WiiWare (emulator: Ishiiruka) - After the initial Fade loads, it sits there for several seconds and then RocketLauncher gives an error about using an incorrect emulator. I have also tried using the main Dolphin branch (thought maybe because the AHK module in RL uses "Dolphin" as the filename that was causing the issue, though Ishiiruka still uses "Dolphin" for the EXE filename), but it resulted in the same issue. I have a short video attached that shows the error. The emulator will actually be running in Task Manager, but the game doesn't load up until I change the emulator in LB back to Ishiiruka/Dolphin.

PlayStation 2 (emulator: PCSX2) - After the initial Fade loads, it sits there for several seconds and a different error from RL is given. This may be an issue with RL entirely, though, so maybe this one can't be fixed. The emulator and game still open in the background, but without the Bezel. A short video for that is also below.

    Extra, overlapping console logo problems:

Edit: I figured this one out. Under Fade info in RL, I set the Global for Game Info Text to disabled and that fixed it. I had apparently only set this for the Wii U itself, previously.

For a fair number of systems, an extra clear logo, console logo appears in the upper left of the Fade screen. It's redundant since the background wallpaper already has the logo on it. I have looked in all of the Media directories in RocketLauncher and in the RockeLauncherUI Media directory, but cannot find where these images are getting pulled from. This was happening for Wii U also, but somehow I managed to get it to go away, but can't recall what the heck I did to do it. Screenshot example below.

In any case, I would super appreciate if someone can help me out with these issues. Thank you! :)

Awesome! Can you input a video preview box here as well for a preview? I can send you a video if you don't have one

Are you talking about gameplay clips? I just haven't recorded any yet, but there will definitely be gameplay footage in the theme... unless you are talking about something different :) In which case, you'll have to spell it out for me more.

I usually do the adding of gameplay once I'm done with everything else. I'm going to add more character art and some special effects still, but will put the gameplay in after that!

  8. Decided to re-visit doing a theme for a Hacks & Fan-Made category. Still needs a lot more work, but this is what I've got so far. I'm incorporating art (where it fits) with palette swaps (i.e., Samus is the version from Hyper Metroid). The very first theme I did was one for Hacks & Fan-Made, but I don't like it much, so I'm re-doing it!! :D

  9. Still a ways off before being done with it, but this is showcase of my current BigBox setup. Showing off platforms and a number of the bezels I'm using for various platforms. It's a kinda long video, but if you're bored!!

  10. Sony PlayStation Game Themes (16:9)

    View File

Moving on to the PlayStation. I'll be uploading themes for games in my collection (around 80ish). If you are looking for themes for any of the PlayStation Final Fantasy games, I have themes for all of those available here:

Just an FYI: I won't be uploading themes for Crash Bandicoot or most of the Mega Man games since @hevenik uploaded video themes for most all of these already. I have, however, modified the videos I'm using from his collections to be 16:9 (added a wallpaper with a blur to fill up the black space on the sides) and incorporated music from the game instead of sound effects of the game since this is what I prefer. If there is any interest in those, I will upload them here; just let me know. Otherwise, Hevenik has you covered for practically all Mega Man and Crash games. I will be doing a theme for Mega Man 8: Anniversary Collector's Edition since that is about the only thing not covered in his set.

This wraps up themes for PlayStation, aside from any special requests that may come along. I'll either be doing PlayStation 2 next or filling in the holes I have for Super Nintendo; haven't decided. When I do get to Super Nintendo, those themes will be at 1440x1080 so they have a 4:3 aspect ratio since the majority of the themes I already have for that system are 4:3 (will make versions of the Final Fantasy SNES themes to match this too sine the ones I made before are 16:9).

  11. Hey @angelobodetti

Just want to chime in with my two cents. :)

First of all, just chiming in since I am a person contributing a lot of content to the site and I really appreciate your sentiment! I honestly enjoy making the theme videos and making them available to everyone else here. I only started using After Effects this last February, so I'm still pretty green, so it's always nice when other people enjoy them. That said, other than finding the art, maybe doing some clean-up on what I find and putting it all together into a video theme, I don't TECHNICALLY create anything; I'm using the work of others. This is why I don't watermark the video that I make or anything. They are free for anybody to use because I can't claim ownership of them in any way.

I can't speak for other content creators at all and there are many people here that do actually create the content they provide, but I wouldn't want to receive anything for what I put up here. It wouldn't feel right to me and I just have fun making them!

I also support Jason and the LaunchBox team via Patreon (which is something I don't do in general) because these guys, in my opinion, are the BIGGEST creators here (LB development, the YouTube channels, the servers and maintenance to house all the content other users provide, etc.) and I think we have a great community here and if my contributions help with keeping it thriving, then it's worth it all the way.

Anyway, can't speak for others and I definitely agree there are other folks are making content worthy of compensation, but I'm not one of them :D... I just like overloading the video theme section with more stuff to download. :D

I'm just happy if other people enjoy them too and that is good enough for me.

  12. Hey @igotdvds. I've started the playlist theme for you. It's still super early, but you can see the general idea I'm going for. I've still got to find more character art to use (just have Chun Li at the moment), but do you want any specific titles referenced in the theme? I don't have this playlist in my own setup, so any input you want to put in is a-ok. You'll have to excuse the low visual fidelity in the clip below. I only 32GBs of RAM on my system and I have the resolution set to a quarter so the preview will render faster since I've got a number of effects going on; definitely won't look like this once it's encoded out.

  13. Has anyone else seen this behavior? Notice the boxart on the lower right just appears as that line.

Initially, I thought it was something with the image file, but when I downloaded a new one, the same thing happened. Then I figured it was the theme (Minimal-AO) so I re-installed it, but it happens with other themes as well, but not all of them. For instance, in City Hunter, the box shows up like it's supposed to. Then I thought it was the view, but changing to other views in a theme where this happens does the same thing. Then thought it was something to do with the size, but I have other Amiga boxart at the same size (400x480) and they don't do this.

I'm out of ideas and haven't seen anyone post on something similar. As far as I have been able to determine, it only happens with this box, too. Figured I'd ask.

  14. Mario Playlist Theme (16:9)

    View File

Theme for a Mario series playlist.

Similar to Mega Man, I put all Mario games into a single category; Mario Kart to Super Mario Bros. However, since some people might use separate playlists for things like Mario Kart, I put focus on featuring gameplay from the platformers in the series and didn't incorporate any art from non-platformers in the theme.

    Hope you guys like it!

Pixel art banner. Just put in the Banner folder in your Mario Playlist folder.

    Perfect. Thank you!

Hey @igotdvds, I've started working on the Mario playlist theme, so I'll be following up with yours next. Do you have any preference for music (original tunes, remix, custom, or none at all). Granted I'll be making it available to the community, but if you have a specific preference for music, let me know.
