That is a issue i have never seen before personally, You need to set the controls in input general.
Lordmonkus
Yeah the General section is for all games and the Machine is just for that game or system if emulating a console or computer through Mame.
tallpr24
try it with a control pad, you will see , after mapping the buttons, if you re launch mame, the mappings are gone. are we allow to post urls here?

There is no secret just set it in the tab menu i showed you, set it as general then "this machine" for any game you want different than default. Lordmonkus
I wish I had a solution for you but unfortunately I do not. It could possibly be an issue with the UI version of Mame you are using, I have only used command line versions for a while now and never run into this issue. In that thread you linked they mention launching a game with no controller plugged in or turned on will cause the controls to reset.
tallpr24
are you using a xbox 360 wireless controller?, if you launch mame and the controller is not on, mame doesn't see the controller and it resets the controller settings. I tried reinstalling mame and different versions.
neil9000
The only way it will disapear is if you delete the "default" config here.
tallpr24
yea, i started with the command line only, and then i switched to ui but same problem.
Lordmonkus
The only other time I can think of causing this issue is with RocketLauncher because of how it has its own config files.

Drop this in your Cfg folder. default.cfg
