ThirdScreen Plugin for Platform Video Marquees, 3+ Screen Support, and more

Recommended Posts

Wow - this app looks awesome.    I am not near my arcade machine at the moment so I don't have a chance to download the plugin or hookup a second monitor.   I would love to use this as a way to show controls during game play. I'm assuming (if I read it correctly) the game view mode will cycle through the images while the game is playing.   I was wondering (I didn't see it in the screenshots or what I read) if you can progress through the screen shots with a keyboard button click (if no click then the image/video/gif is the only one displayed).

If not, I'll throw it out as a feature request.    I'm in the process of rebuilding my cabinet and I wanted to integrate a ultra wide bar monitor - looking as something with a small screen of 4"x10" at the moment.    I was thinking it would be pretty cool if I use an admin button (I have 4 that aren't assigned yet) to toggle through images/videos/etc.   When I have games like Mortal Kombat I can show combo moves on subsequent images (with a button push).

Thanks!

@flynnb1234 You can use it to display game controls but there is currently no option to cycle though images with a button press.

Hi, i want to know if ThirdScreen work with Hyperspin.

I want to see video marquees on my second screen, but rightnow i´am using Hypermarquee software and that target is imposible.

Thanks !

Hi. No it won't work with HyperSpin, you should just switch to LaunchBox :). HyperMarquee will display video files but they can't loop. Converting the video files to gifs was the only way I could get video marquees to loop forever back when I was using HyperSpin.

Hola.

Thank you very much for your reply. I have put too much work into my Hyperspin at the moment to change it right now. Without going off topic too much, could you tell me how I could display my video files in HyperMarquee, I can't get it to play either .mp4 or .flv. Thanks.

Sorry I won't be of any help. It's been too long since I've used it. Try asking in r/HyperSpin. If you do want to convert them to gifs though, I remember that Apple Keynote was the only program I could find that produced gifs that would work. Other programs would use optimizations that HyperMarquee would choke on.

I absolutely love the plugin -- it's making my four screen wall-installed monster feel like an arcade combined with an encyclopedia for each game.

I'm wondering if you're still planning to develop the project, and if so, if you are open to general requests/ideas?

  • Are you working with any of the theme developers to explore how elements like game scroll wheels, text, screenshots and fan art might be sent independently to other screens?
  • Are there plans to add slight transitions or animations between game/platforms? I'm thinking that a quick fade in/out or a push from one game box to another would look super cool.
  • I really appreciate the ability to stretch and not stretch elements - are you looking to add scaling or zooming beyond the bounds of the screen as well? The reason being is that many 4:3 images don't line up with 16:9 screens, so cropped screenshots could look kind of cool zoomed in.

Thanks for doing this!

Thanks, glad you are getting good use out of it. Yes, I'm still developing it as time permits. And yes, transitions and zoom stretch are things that are on my to do list. No plans to integrate it with themes, unless maybe if I write my own (ThirdTheme?).

Well, it would certainly stand out among the rest of you did! Thanks again 🙏
