  1. Hey guys, just put out a new beta. I'm hoping it helps significantly reduce the performance for clean up images and the initial image moving. And, if we're lucky it might help solve the other image lagging stuff. Let me know. I've also filled out all the options in Big Box for hiding and showing things in the details and the menus, as well as finally added @scree's platform metadata (thanks again @scree!).
  2. Agreed. I have some pretty neat ideas for library sharing/social features as well, though, so hopefully it'll at least be progressive.
  3. Hi Shades, unfortunately TGDB is almost completely unresponsive to requests/suggestions. I've tried a few times in the past couple years and I've had very little luck. In the future, we're ultimately going to be creating our own game metadata and images database partially for this reason. When we do it, we'll make sure we cover pretty much all grounds. :)
  4. Cool, so I see the solution just being a check box to hide or show the items, as well as a simple Sequence numeric box. Then we can allow you to move items up and down in the grid of additional applications.
  5. Ah, sure, I see. That definitely makes sense, though I might like to keep it a bit more generic. Would it be suitable to just add a check box that says "show in Big Box" or "show in right-click menu" to hide the rest? Or do we need those available as well?

    Local Metadata

Hi @Bil, thanks for that info. I still feel pretty in the dark about the possibilities for local metadata parsing, so that helps. What system do you have that generates those text files? I assume they would be stored in a separate folder, per platform, like the images are now? Depending on the final solution, we may implement this with the new database, or we may wait until afterwards. Not sure how it will all play out.
  7. @bd00, not sure what might have happened, but I just did a test with a standard forum account and I was able to edit the main wiki page. I was in the middle of changing things before, so it's possible that it messed with things while you were testing. Can you try again?
  8. Actually I'd rather keep images in the forums, Martin, though we can certainly link to forums articles from the Wiki. Didn't realize the root page was locked down, sorry for that. I'll jump on fixing that right away. I'm out of town so I've been back and forth with Internet access. Your list looks like a great start, @bd00. Thanks for that. :)
  9. Thanks Brad. I want to create a Retroarch Wiki for all these types of details.
  10. Yeah, I have kids ages 6, 4 (almost 5) and 3. You forget how hard it is, especially for little kids, to learn how to use one of those things lol. My oldest (6) does great with them now, and can actually beat me at racing games, but it took him a lot of effort to be able to do that. In fact, he became proficient at gaming with a keyboard much quicker than with a 360 controller. My 4 (almost 5) year old is just now interested in picking up the controller. She's still working on it; she's pretty useless at it for the moment. ;)
  11. I'm with you, ps4. Society today, especially American society, gets everything wrong. From parenting, to diet, to healthcare, to security; there is little that is done well. I tend to believe it has something to do with a society run entirely by money, but that's just a hypothesis.
  12. I think you're right; I don't think it's possible to edit the categories without an admin account. I'd create them but I don't really know what to put in them, so I think at first at least we'll just ignore categories. Thanks a ton for your help with this. :)
  13. Thanks, Mark. I did a bit of restructuring. The plugin I'm using for the wiki isn't completely customizable, so I can't do everything, but this should help. Now, the Wiki link takes you to the LaunchBox Wiki page, which seems to work a lot better. Everything can go underneath that page. Per the sidebar, I'm working on removing it. Looks like it'll take some code, surprisingly, but yeah, I agree; it needs removed. For tags, yup; they're comma-separated. Thanks again. :)
  14. Hehehehe...I believe that lies in the terrible ripoff category, bd. :P
  15. I just added the Wiki guys. Potentially we could move this kind of stuff (including the emulator settings thread into the Wiki). There should be a new Wiki item in the menu at the top. The structure and everything is up for the discussion. I believe anyone with a forum login should be able to edit the wikis. You can create new sub-wikis inside the two wikis by clicking the Create New tab. Let me know if you think this is a good direction, or if we should just keep using the forums (and/or how it's working for you).
  16. Very cool @bd000. I'll take a look at them. At least a couple of them ring a bell from before, but probably worth a second review.
  17. And we have a Wiki! There should be a new Wiki item in the menu at the top of the site. My understanding is that anyone who is logged in to the forums should also be able to edit the Wiki. I created wikis for LaunchBox and Big Box. We can discuss if we should change this structure. I believe everyone should have permissions to create sub wikis under these two wikis by clicking the Create New tab on top. Let me know how it's all working for you guys. Looking forward to seeing it populated. :)
  18. Good to know. Thanks, @Bil. More performance improvements there would probably be ideal.
  19. The LaunchBox site itself gets plenty of traffic, so yeah, I agree, it would be best to do it directly on the LB site itself. I am travelling today; I'll see if I can find a good wiki solution. I'm sure WordPress must have a good one. I know we looked a while back, but there wasn't enough interest to really continue it. Though now, I think it's probably about time. So I'll try and get the frame for it started, and leave it to you guys to populate it.
  20. Oh man, back when I originally implemented controller support, I tried for days to make that happen. Apparently that darn guide button is some kind of trade secret or something. I think they make it difficult to do on purpose. I eventually found a way to do it, but would have had to create a separate app in C++ just to make it happen. I didn't try AutoHotkey at the time, though. Let me know if anyone figures it out, I'll integrate it into LaunchBox in a heartbeat. I want that for my own personal use. The other thing that would be nice, is being able to use that as the "hold button" for other AutoHotkey functions.
  21. Indeed. I definitely have plans for that. :)
