  1. Yea you either need to tell MAME the proper location or put them in their roms folder. As for BitDefender, this is saddly a common problem with them, and they are completely wrong obviously. This is what's called a false positive. Add your LaunchBox directory to the Whitelist feature of BitDefender, add the setup as well, or get a new AV solution.
  2. Yea ROM's can be a bit of a grey area, at least some of them (Nintendo published games, especially ones they still sell, are not really a grey area), but BIOS certainly are not.
  3. Different settings, larger libraries, you'd be surprised how different results can be after 1 setting change.
  4. Whoa, ok I get choppiness in the new view, but nothing like this in the view that we've had since BigBox was created. We have similar PC's too. I have an i7 6700, 32GB of DDR4 and a GTX 970. Try turning off or changing the animations. Options -> Game Images, at the bottom of that list.
  5. You can drag and drop the exe, import it as MS-DOS (doesn't require you to specify an emulator, but that also works), then edit the game to take away the need for it to use MS-DOS. Jason is aware that importing shortcuts or drag and dropping windows games to specifically import them is a complete work around and he has expressed intrest in fixing that so you can more easily import PC game exe's or shortcuts without workarounds.
  6. The software needing to be installed for the PS4 controllers to work (and PS3) is minor, but it also helps you control the light bar, the track pad, etc. With the Light Bar turned off too, the battery life is a bit better, but I have mine wired.

  8. To be able to run them at good speeds, you need a fairly decent PC. Let's put it this way, the SNES is now considered to be perfectly emulated, 100% compatability and there are no speed hacks being run on an emulator like bsnes accuracy / higan or the Bsnes accuracy core in RetroArch. To run the accuracy core competently you need at least a 3Ghz CPU. Now not all CPU's are made equal, My 2016 i7 beats any Octa Core CPU or other i7 CPU's from even last year. I would say at least an i3 Dual Core 3Ghz from within the last few years for the SNES. So emulation requires an extremely more powerful PC, that said, most emulators employ a lot of speed hacks to make things run smoothly on lower end systems and early on in development when they are trying to get things right. So PCSX2 I could run on my older PC (same with GameCube and Wii), but sometimes it wasn't all that pretty. I had an i7 930 (from 2009) and a GTX 970 with 12GB of DDR3 ram. Now I have a i7 6700, a GTX 970 and 32GB of DDR4 RAM and I can play those systems really well. It also depends on the emulator and how far along they are or how sophisticated they are. The 3DS and Wii U emulator run very poorly because they are new (ignoring the fact that I personally think no one should really be emulating these unless they legit own the games because these are still readily available at affordable prices... but hey). For the controller, if you did try your PS4 controller and it didn't work that might have been because you need Input Mapper which allows the PS4 controller to work. That is one upside to the Xbox 360 and One controllers, they pretty much just work right away. The Xbox One and PS4 are the best controllers possible though. Better D-Pad's than the 360 controller and better sticks and triggers than the PS3 controller. https://www.inputmapper.com/
  9. A lot of the Japanese systems need love, they're some of my favorite too. To sum up pretty much what my posts are saying for others, it's complicated but regardless of the Database we want users to be able to have their library the way they want. Alternate Naming, Scrape As options etc.
  10. You can add anything you want as a platform. You can add anything you want to pretty much any category. If you want to make a platform called Home Video and populate it with Self Help books you could. xD
  11. That's true, that is a good point but can still be taken care of I think. Like I said, it's not perfect. Well a game is searched by Name first, then drilled down by what console you are searching under. So Super Mario Bros. 2 or Super Mario Bros. USA would be the two names on the page (probably displayed with the english naming front facing honestly... but who knows), and SMB2 would be marked as a NTSC / USA game while SMB USA will be marked as a Japanese NTSC-J game. Each with the appropriatly marked images. Super Mario Bros. 2 or Super Mario Bros The Lost Leves will be the same way. Further, each page has a unique ID attached to each page, but something like a a pop-up that asks you "Is this SMB2 / SMB USA or is this SMB2 or Lost Levels" ... potentially. There aren't too many of these cases I don't believe, but I think we can come to a way to figure it out... but I wonder if that would be too complicated. I wonder how it's handeled now... I don't have a Famicom specific section in my library but I am sure I have the original Japanese Super Mario Bros. 2. In the end, it's always been confusing so there may need to be a little leg work on some of these more confusing games unless we can also assign another specific marker to differentiate the games besides the Japanese and American naming not matching up. Final Fantasy get's a tad confusing too.
  12. I greatly prefer the PS4 controller for almost everything. I used a 360 controller previously because it's all I had, but the PS4 controller is greatly superior in my opinion, that D-Pad is so good. The Xbox One Controller I've heard great things about as well. I also use a USB N64 and GameCube controller for the respective consoles because of their uniqueness, and I would for the Wii too if I had a USB Wii Dolphin Bar. Otherwise that's pretty much it. An Arcade stick would be cool too, but it's less of a priority for me.
  13. Well first CD won't be merged with 16 those are separate beasts. However, the consoles are the same with different names. They're not exactly the same, but they're largely identical. The database will be able to handle them being merged, im not saying right now it could be handeled well but the whole point of changing the Database and how it interacts with LaunchBox is that something like what I've proposed will work seamlessly and not change how you prefer to keep your Library. TurboGrafx 16 and PC Engine are largely the same, so they'll have one destination but alternate or regional dating, naming, descriptions, images etc. So if you specify two seperate systems in the TurboGrafx 16 and PC Engine LaunchBox will pull the proper information. As is there is no complete set for any system, let alone proper duplicates with the proper naming scheme. So yea Legend of Zelda and Zeruda no Densetsu probably have two seperate entries, most other games don't. The point is to try and fill in the gaps as best as we can. If we had complete metadata and images to at least within 90% completion, maybe splitting the consoles wouldn't be a bad thing but with them combined if you seperate them on your end, the average user should not know. If a game doesn't exist though it still wont exist, but this will hopefully ensure that more metadata can properly make it's way out there. What happens to the user who puts English games in to the PC Engine category where they don't belong? Right now, more than likely nothing happens or very little happens. That same user with the proposed changes should still be able to find the proper metadata that they want. I also won't pretend that this is a perfect solution, it's a solution among many. I will also admit that it will take some tweaking like any other path we choose to go down, but I think merging them and making the Database a more clean destination can help. There is no need to have two sections for the same console.
  14. I don't think the first image is a re-creation, just a bigger scan then touched up with a bit of over exposure or even potentially upscaled with filters. The new image is a bit darker and a smaller resolution, but the woman on the cover is not completely washed out in the first one. They're also both blurry so that argument is pointless as they're the same in that regard. So in this case I would accept the second image because the box art is technically of better quality even though the resolution is smaller.

  17. I would advise against RetroArch in this case. There are only a few like PSP and DS, but I would certainly lump this in with that. With the way we are set up you would actually have to go out of your way to import it properly and with the way the importer works it would be severely broken. The DOS importer works really well and you can replace the default version of DOSBox for a more advanced fork of it like DOSBox Daum or DOSBox X or something like that.

  19. You can add any emulator, or anything at all really, to LaunchBox. I covered the PSP in our tutorial series and I used PPSSPP in fact. If it's not on the list, you can still manually add it. It's the platform name that needs to be default for the best possible scraping.

  21. Right but did you actually change the audio settings in Windows? It does seem like a settings issue with your Steam Link. Is it lagging on the host computer? Also are your Drivers updated?
  22. No we don't have templates, but the Platform images can be supplied by the user as Jason said and of course we can always probably update them. Make sure to select the default platform names from the drop down box when adding the platforms for the best compatibility.
  23. Did you change the audio on your Windows machine for it to work? Are your audio drivers updated? Also what MAME core are you using and have you tried regular MAME?

  25. Curiously, what PS1 core are you using? If the rest of your cores are working then this core could have been corrupted during download, it was built to GitHub wrongly so the download just doesn't work (even our updates sometimes do this), or that version of RetroArch could be bugged. The Mednafen PS1 core is the suggested core, and make sure to not use the one that has "hw" in the name, it's extremely buggy right now and is clearly in alpha.
