If you want newer Mame rom sets use pleasuredome, their Mame sets are ratio free so they are freely available to anyone.

That is up to you but just so you are aware updating using the update packs is not a simple extract to your roms folder and overwrite when asked, doing that will break any games that you are overwriting. You need to use a program that merges the files correctly such as clrmamepro and that is a very tricky program to use. The update files only contain the actual updated rom files so for example if game1.zip contains rom a,b and c and the updated game1.zip file has a new rom b it only contains that b file and not a and c. So now when you overwrite the old file the new one only has b which in turn breaks the rom completely.

The roms from their main site can be very out of date but their forums can be more up to date in terms of FBA sets. The newest full Mame set minus update packs they have available on the main site is 161 which is quite old now but still functional if you use a matching version of Mame.

Both FBA and Mame emulates the NeoGeo perfectly fine, they are pretty equal in terms of emulation quality with no perceivable differences in the 2. As for the "console" version as opposed to the "arcade" version there is no difference, they are the exact same hardware and rom files. The only difference is the console version had some options like free play and some other minor things more appropriate for a home console vs the arcade but this was in the bios of the home console. With FBA and Mame you can choose which bios you use and many people use the aftermarket bios known as Unibios. You can set things such as home or arcade version along with region. Ah yes, I forgot about the Qsound update, thanks for the reminder.

    Demul emulates those systems.

Another thing to take into possible consideration is that a little while back the encryption chip on the CPS2 games got hacked and is now a requirement in the roms for newer versions of Mame. The roms got updated to contain a key.txt file in each and every rom file. I have no idea whether or not the newer builds of the FBA core has this same requirement.

If games are simply failing to load it is most likely a missing file such as the qsound.zip or the rom set you got is incompatible with the version of FBA that the core you are using is based off of.

You need a rom set that matches with the core you are using. There are 2 main FBA cores, the one with no year in its name and the one with 2012 in the name. The other more specific cores are only for really low end hardware like Raspberry Pis and are a bit more optimized for speed. During the import process if you chose to copy or move your roms to the Launchbox folder this will mess it all up, there are bios files such as NeoGeo.zip and Qsound.zip (and others) which are essentially bios files along with other "parent" or "clone" files which may or may not be required for the games to work. Check your games in Retroarch outside of Launchbox if you haven't done so already. My advice for new users is to get a full Mame rom set and use the stand alone version of Mame that matches up with the rom set version you get. This will be much more reliable and easier ot get running. FBA is a good emulator and I don't want to take anything away from it at all but it is a bit more tricky to get a proper rom set for the FBA core. Mame is just so much easier and more reliable and emulates all of the same games just as well if not better.
  9. Retroarch Mame 185 Core View File I have seen several times over the last couple of months people looking for the old 185 version of the Mame core for Retroarch which is no longer available through their downloader. Many people still use older Mame rom sets and would like to have this version of the core over using the newer one and having to update their rom set to ensure full compatibility. I got permission from Hunterk over on the Retroarch forums to provide this core openly for people to download https://forums.libretro.com/t/where-can-i-redownload-the-mame-185-core/11335/17?u=lordmonkus but if I am asked to remove it at a later date I will do so. This is the 64 bit version, sorry I don't have the 32 bit version. Submitter Lordmonkus Submitted 02/02/2018 Category Third-party Apps and Plugins

  11. That's good to hear, I was foreseeing this being a big issue but if there is a way around it that is very good.
  12. Normally I wouldn't post this sort of MSU stuff but I figured this would appeal to some people. 3 new Actraiser PCM packs got uploaded: https://www.zeldix.net/t1536-actraiser-msu-1
  13. lol, glad it was helpful but you didn't need to make a full quote of the original post
  14. Without knowing what set you are using it could be the fact that the CPS3 games require a CHD file to function properly, this is especially true with Mame and I am not sure about it with FBA. I only know mine work without CHDs or dat files. This is why I have been saying without knowing what the exact rom set you have is it is very difficult to trouble shoot and getting an up to date version is best.
  15. Are you updated t the latest beta version of Launchbox ? Steam has invalidated the old API and Jason had to get a new one which is now in the latest beta and will be in the 8.0 official build when it releases soon.
  16. Yup, just download all the parts and extract them all into the same folder and import them, just make sure during the import you choose to use them in the current location.
  17. It's possible the database server could be slow right now. You should also check your internet speed if you haven't done so just to make sure it's not your internet having a slow period. Are you only downloading selected image types (boxart and gameplay screenshot for example) or are you downloading all the media including fanart ? Fanart can be quite big and several images for some games. Saying "it's only images" is really an informed statement because depending on the image type and quality it can get quite large in file size. I have a slower internet connection than you (12 Mbit) and I got all my images in a reasonable time frame though when you do Mame you will want to set that up and let it go over night.
  18. FBA supports CPS3 games and yes you can import them as easy as CPS1 and 2.
  19. Then you can look in the controller settings and see if what you want is there or not.
  20. Because it's set to use the d-pad which is the default. You can try changing it in the controller input settings, i've never tried to change that stuff to an analog stick. I prefer to use an actual d-pad for games that used a d-pad and my controller I use doesn't even have an analog stick.
  21. Go to the Settings > Input where I told you to check on the Player 1 Input controller and check the Player 2 Input and make sure its not using the same controller.
