Holy shit, I just noticed I have become 128-bit Self Aware on this forum! Are there any magical superpowers that come with this delegation?

I heard Home Depot will cut it to size for free. Oh yeah, but probably not the button holes! http://www.ehow.com/how_4881739_drill-holes-plexiglass.html

A new predefined setting aimed at LB/BB performance improvement when running on slower/older systems. Please vote on it if you like: https://bitbucket.org/jasondavidcarr/launchbox/issues/2646/light-mode

It might be cool if LB had a single setting with various performance levels that adjusted all the many LB/BB settings that are related to performance based on the setting chosen, but could be overwritten in individual settings afterwords. So, maybe setting "Light" could give you all settings that would improve performance as much as could possibly be set in an automatic way (yes it could mean things will look uglier!). That could be used on a slower system up to super computer. The settings could still be tweaked individually. This new setting would just let you reset them to a chosen set of settings right then and there. Maybe also the ability to save your current custom settings as name xxx as well. Seems like a fairly simple development effort that could possibly help people out a lot.

You shouldn't have to reinstall your entire OS just because one program isn't working very well. That's just nuts. Your specs seem more than enough for this application. I would suggest you try out some of the things at the link @lordmonkus gave you. Launchbox is a bit weird in my experience as far as performing what you would think would be a simple operation, such as opening an Options dialog. The Options dialog opens quite slow for me too, but that has been an on and off things in various versions of LB. Options opening slowly, while annoying, isn't really a huge deal to me, although quite curious Bigbox navigation is also quite slow and jerky for me too, but I've learned that's just the way it goes for now. I'm guessing it launches your emulators and games just fine, but you are having more of an issue with navigation and configuration slowness? As far as LB/BB crashing goes, that just shouldn't happen and you should click the Issues/Requests link at the top of this page and submit all the details you can so @Jason Carr can fix it. Just to somewhat rule out other programs on your system that are running in the background and possibly slowing LB/BB down for you, you might try booting up in Windows Safe Mode and seeing if the same slowness still exists with Launchbox. If it's much faster that way, then you know you need to start figuring out which program(s) are running in the background and slowing things down. Could be things like antivirus/malware apps, desktop indexing, system/file backup programs, or anything that is told to watch the execution of other programs or watch the files inside the folders in your LB folder and other places. All that said, LB/BB is really great and I love it, but I think this comes up enough that more development time should be put into making the program run better and smoother on less than a Hercules super computer system, even if that just means the ability to disable some things in LB. Just my two cents...

Maybe try looking at your display settings, like display main desktop on both monitors or something like that.

I would just try to download the LB installer and install it to the same install folder. You shouldn't lose any of your settings, but hopefully it will add the missing files.

Button 2 exits game while using Steam Link/Big Box
ckp replied to rampantlemming's topic in Troubleshooting
--nogui fixed it for me with pcsx2, but i never had that in the past and it used to work without that. the only emulator i can't get to work now with the more recent BB, even when removing the ahk scripts, is Demul. keyboard escape key works fine but controller automation throws to desktop with a zombie bigbox.exe process still running that you have to kill. in one of the many threads around this recent issue, Jason said he is aware and has it on his todo list. -
Tools->Manage Emulators->Edit Type a new name. If you add a new emulator, you can also type any name you want.
-
yeah i may try a newer Demul, but this was working for a long time with my current older Demul version. yeah , no problems with pcsx2.
-
it's not. no msi afterburner or diva is running at all. something simply changed in bigbox around controller automation. i never had the problem until recently
-
hey, it works!!! thanks a lot!!! Edit: spoke too soon. it worked once. then tried a few more times and it's still throwing back to desktop from BB with the bigbox process running and hidden.
-
actually the problem is that i just cant use my controller to exit Demul since it throws back to desktop. but the keyboard escape key works fine. so i can just do that even though it's irritating, until there is a BB fix.
-
hmm, i do have msi afterburner running in the background for GPU overclocking, but I'm not willing to stop running that. I guess I'll just have to setup Xpadder or Antimicro for Demul games. i wonder if there are any msi afterburner settings that can be made so it doesn't interfere though? Edit: actually i thought i had msi afterburner set to start with windows but i guess i don't. there are no msi after burner processes running. Edit: i just checked. afterburner only runs at startup to apply the overclock settings then exits. so i guess thats not the problem.

zombeaver told me the problem. i didn't have the right command line set in LB. i needed to add --nogui

i'm having one other steam link issue. when i play ps2 games with pcsx2, it throws me back to the steam big picture when pressing my xbox 360 B button? doesn't happen in other emulators and game or in Bigbox without steam link streaming. any idea?
-
ok, the new mame port audio settings were causing the audio to stop working with steam link. after removing port audio, the audio works fine. this was also figured out by @Malhavoc !
-
aha!, that's what is causing this for me! @Malhavoc you have now fixed my mame crashing and audio with steam link. thanks!!
-
@Malhavoc , thanks soooooo much!! you are the man!! i have been struggling with mame crashing through my new steam link since i got the link. i just tried this and MAME finally works now through steam link! nice job! now i just need to figure out why all my audio turns off for everything in MAME and everywhere else in steam link once i launch a mame game. maybe it's related to the new mame audio settings - ill have to try setting them back.

Mine works fine with Launchbox. The issue I'm having is with Bigbox. I'm running Windows 10. In any case, it sounds like things are working normally for @Sithel (maybe because it only affect Win 10?) and this has only started affecting some of us.
-
@Sithel, that's pretty much what i've always used, but it doesn't work anymore as of 7.7. i just get thrown back to the desktop on exit

controller automation is suddenly causing a big problem
ckp replied to ckp's topic in Troubleshooting
Yeah, it seems sometime in of the most recent releases (i'm on 7.7 now) this particular broke. For some emulators lie Demul, we always had to have an ahk line in the emulator ahk tab for closing demul.exe or parent process, and the same type of thing for some of the other emulators (sega model 2, etc). It always worked for me for a long time using Bigbox, but only recently it has started to throw to desktop exiting the game and leaving an invisible bigbox.exe running that you have to kill. -

ckp replied to ckp's topic in Troubleshooting
Thanks @Zeromod, I'm sure that would work and is a valid workaround, but I don't want to use Xpadder or CC, or Antimicro (this one is free) for emulators that support the native xbox xinput. Something seems to have changed with Bigbox and controller automation. Hoping it gets fixed asap.
