In Launchbox go to Tools>Manage Emulators. Find your Demul emulator in the box that pops up and edit it. In the Associated platforms tab enter the command lines that are in pic above. The platform name needs to also be entered, but make sure the name you enter is how the name of the platform appears in your Launchbox setup. So however you named the Dreamcast platform make sure that is how you enter the name there. Also I think you need to make sure the check box on the first tab for before Rom is checked.

Looking good @Mr. RetroLust ?

I know during beta, testing was pretty consistent in not showing exit issues with the new startup screens and me. I do not recall anyone really having issues with mame. I could be wrong though. What version mame are you using? Command line or something like MameUI or Arcade64? Does this happen as well in Launchbox?

Version 1.0.0
605 downloads
Second stab at a theme. This one will use a static background image for each platform when a game is launched. So it does not use fan art from each game. The images are those supplied in the BigBox Unified and Unified Redux themes. So I claim no credit to any images. I only copied them over from those themes. Credit to @Jason Carr and @CriticalCid for those themes. I claim no credit to any artwork displayed or included in the theme. If you know the creator please mention so I may credit. IMPORTANT: Launchbox 9.2 or higher required for Startup Themes. Version 1.0.0 Startup Theme: has a header style framed banner that will display "Now Loading..." (text color does change by platform. I used common brand colors or as close to), the game's clear logo, and the platform's clear logo. Main field will display 3D Box, Screenshot, and Cart or Spinning Disc (for CD based games) are in the main view. IMPORTANT: Make sure you set your image priorities in Launchbox for these categories. Also set backup images in case you are missing image types for a game. Shutdown Theme: uses a static image in its current default state with the words "Thank you for playing..." displayed. You can use any static image you want. However, please note the text in the default one is scaled to a size to fit in the background image's marquee. There is an alternate Shutdown xml file that will be pretty generic. The Shutdown text in that one is in the middle of the screen and would be better for those preferring their own image. There are read me files in the folders with simple steps to change the shutdown. If you prefer use the game specific backgrounds and games images in the shutdowns I will be uploading a version of this theme that will use the game fanart backgrounds. Installation: 1. Download the Framed Platform_Static Background v1.0.0.zip file and unzip it into the Launchbox\StartupThemes\ folder. 2. Install the supplied font. 3. In Launchbox go to Tools>Options>Game Startup and choose the appropriate named theme. I will be adding more platform xml files in an update after the holiday. There is probably about 100 in there now. -

X Arcade Tank Stick Was Working Fine, Then...
Retro808 replied to thejamestownoasis's topic in Troubleshooting
Its pretty easy to do. As long as your tankstick is plugged in just open a game in mame and hit tab on your wireless keyboard. You will see options to set input for general use and for machine (game specific). Just move up or down to each control option. Choose a control to map and hit enter on your keyboard then hit the correspondong button on the tankstick for the control. It will allow you to set player 1 and player 2 controls. I would set the general inputs (universal) first and not game specific. You will have to look around in the options as things for coin 1, coin 2, and setting your button options to exit mame are in a different menu. -
@Example Is there a particular emulator this happens with? I do not think anyone in the beta threads mentioned anything like this. It should not be affected by the theme code as the code only displays the images. It is not the actual code to startup and shutdown the transition between the frontend and the emulator.

X Arcade Tank Stick Was Working Fine, Then...
Retro808 replied to thejamestownoasis's topic in Troubleshooting
Did you test the Tankstick outside of Launchbox? Since the Tankstick replicates keystrokes just open a text document and hit buttons to see if they register. You could also try turning the NUMLOCK button on and see if that helps. Not sure how old your Tankstick is, but the NUMLOCK thing is something they have on their site. I used to have to use it until I updated the internals and got a newer board. -
@Boomerps2 Unfortunately per Jason Startup/Shutdown screens will not be compatible with Rocket Launcher for the time being. Turning them off for now if you are going to keep using RL is your best course. I do not think Jason mentioned anytime frame for possible compatibility "for the time being" so it does appear to be something he will eventually add. You can read his direct post on it in this beta thread. Look for his third post on this page.

What mame are you running? Command line mame or one of the offshoots like MameUI or Arcade64?
-
@Lprong Working ok here with PCSX2.
-
Just click on one game then CTRL+A to select all. Then choose edit and the bulk editor will come up and you can choose emulator as an option to change.

Though this is true I can say without even an ounce of coding knowledge I was able to modify one of the themes. It does take some trial and error and some frustration, but it is doable. This may likely not be something most want to do, but I just want to say it is possible with no prior knowledge. Maybe future LB will have a GUI way to do this with ease.

Startup and Shutdown are themeable. So it is possible, but would require the theme be coded that way.
-
@RetroHumanoid You're welcome. Looking forward to what you add to the Startup Themes options.
-
I got it to work just by creating a Backgrounds Folder and changing this area of the code. I pretty much just copied it from the xml codes from you and Jason's BigBox Unified themes. Just FYI the startup theme name in the code below was just me making a test to see if it worked. I copied your background images into it the folders to test. Probably pretty basic, but hey it works <Canvas Name="Canvas"> <Image Source="{}pack://siteoforigin:,,,/StartupThemes/Refried/Background Startup/Nintendo GameCube.jpg" Stretch="UniformToFill" RenderOptions.BitmapScalingMode="HighQuality" Height="{Binding ElementName=Canvas, Path=ActualHeight}" Width="{Binding ElementName=Canvas, Path=ActualWidth}" /> <Grid Height="{Binding ElementName=Canvas, Path=ActualHeight}" Width="{Binding ElementName=Canvas, Path=ActualWidth}">

@neil9000 Same here. Strange that BB was set to default but was using the Center Logo theme which I only set in LB. I was able to choose the other themes in BigBox though and it still worked. Having fun trying to learn xml stuff so messing around with another theme. I just made overlays that get pulled per platform to show the system logo and the grid lines. I am sure there is a code that can do this, but like I said...I do not know this stuff so just going about it in an elementary and likely a longer way than is possible. But I am having fun trying.

Hmm. Not sure what would be wrong. I have it working on a few set-ups. The different views for a platform do require your platform names match the names of the platform xml files in the themes folder. If the do not you can just change the xml file name to match. I used pretty standard naming for systems. Take a look at the xml platform names and compare how you have your platforms named. The alternate is only for disc based systems to show spinning discs. So anything else would use the default.

Demon Front works in Mame but not Launchbox/Bigbox
Retro808 replied to Dr_Bunsen's topic in Troubleshooting
Oddly enough I just tried and cannot get it to work either. Not sure what might have changed. I use the regular command line mame. But have MameUI and Arcade64 set up for testing. MameUI is no longer working through Launchbox even with the .ini in the main folder. For several games I tried. Demon Front launches fine with regular Mame and Arcade64 through Launchbox. -
Demon Front works in Mame but not Launchbox/Bigbox
Retro808 replied to Dr_Bunsen's topic in Troubleshooting
Can you confirm it is actually the mame.ini. Only reason I ask is there is also a MameUI.ini and some people confuse that with what Monkus talking about. it is not that it is a mame issue moreso it is a MameUI issue. Mame reads the mame.ini from the main folder so Launchbox looks for it there. For some reason a while back MameUI versions started putting the mame.ini in the Ini folder. With that change Launchbox had trouble working well with MameUI and Arcade64 offshoots of mame. -
how to disable "Loading Game" splash screen?

This already exist in a limited form with the Games DB. You can link Launchbox to the Games DB and it will sync your collection. It is limited in the data it shows and the breakdown for genres, but what you mentioned is basically there.
-
Custom backgrounds for the genre and play modes the prior member asked about (2-player, 4-player, etc...). Since implementing those playlist types in Launchbox Jason has not added new custom backgrounds for them to this theme's downloaded content. The user can of course create their own.
