Is there a way to pull additional Metadata from ROMs during import? All the below Metadata I know is available in MAMEUI, I don't know how that correlates to LaunchBox. When importing MAME Roms, I'd like to also pull; Type: Raster, Vector Screen: Horizontal, Vertical Trackball: Yes, No Lightgun: Yes, No Golden Age: Yes, No CHD: Yes, No Original Game: Yes, No

Just wanted to share my progress on my Project. I'm not quite sure where I'm going to take this, but I believe I'm going to try to make an all-in-one joystick/computer with HDMI output using either a NUC or an ODOO. Feel free to ask questions or send any feedback, this is my first time making a MAME/EMULATION Machine. Would love the feedback on any issues you might of ran into that I should watch out for. We created a Cut file in Adobe Illustrator and brought it to our Router for cutting. We also dado'ed in where the joystick sat so there would be no chance it moved on us. Removed the protective sheeting, this is where we used a material called "Glass Adhere" to print on for the graphic, it's a non-sticky adhesive material. Think Window cling. Got all the buttons in places. The Final Result for today's work.

So I I’m gonna go with Udoo, in your opinion, for emulation and running LaunchBox smoothly... the $100 difference between the Advanced with Intel Celeron N3160 2.24 Ghz & 4GB RAM or theUltra with the Intel Pentium N3710 2.56 GHZ & 8GB ram? From ETA’s video, the Advance will not handle Dreamcast and up very well, is the Ultra enough to make a difference or not worth it. it would also be nice to play some Steam/Arcade game, like Mortal Kombat X & Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3, which is only $15 on steam right now FYI.

@lordmonkus I would agree that is where the new emulators would move, my day job is as a 3D artist and this year we switched from a CPU rendering workflow to a GPU based one. The fact that we can pile on additional GPUs into our network for a fraction of the cost and render an insane amount faster, I think GPU processing is going to become very mainstream item in the near future.

Thanks @mothergoose729, yes my main pc is a ITX computer and I love how small it is, but I do have an i7 and a GTX1070 in it so it’s by far not underpowered. I really like the idea of making this ultra portable but a little more stronger then a pi. I also want to build off of LaunchBox which binds me to the NUC or UDOO at the moment. I honestly thought the GPU was the bottleneck of the emulators with lower end PCs but from what I’m understanding, it’s the single thread cpu I should be keeping an eye on. I may start with an UDOO just for price point and since I’m building off of a Windows base, can easily move to a NUC.

i5 NUC with 4GB of ram for $304... hmmm. maybe it’s a sign. https://slickdeals.net/f/10471244-intel-nuc-7th-gen-i5-boxnuc7i5bnh-w-free-4gb-ram-for-304-no-tax-free-s-h-at-newegg

Thanks for the insight @lordmonkus, I'm getting ready to make my own cabinet and I was trying to find a way to keep all the internals in the controller area, that way the controller part could transfer out of the cabinet when I needed it to be portable. I wish I could test out one of the Intel i5 NUC with the 640 GPU. It starts at $330 with/out memory or HD, But if it ends up not being that big of an improvement over the UDOO, that's a big price jump with little gain. https://www.amazon.com/Intel-BOXNUC7I5BNK-NUC-Kit-Components/dp/B01N2UMKZ5/ref=sr_1_3?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1502998391&sr=1-3&keywords=intel%2Bnuc%2Bi5&th=1

I also was looking at the Intel NUC computers, much more expensive though. I believe the i3 version starts at $270
-
Yup! that's why i was looking at the x86 UDOO's rather then any of the others.

I was looking at making an all-in-one joystick mame box. I wanted to use something a little more powerful then a Raspberry Pi and was hoping to us LB. I was looking at one of the UDOO x86 boards, has anyone had any experiences with these? Would you recommend something else? What's the GPU processing on this equivalent to discrete GPU? Can these handle highend emulators like Dreamcast, PS1, PS2, GameCube? Does anyone know what kind of board the Pandora's Box systems? Just looking for a discussion to see what peoples experiences are with these. I did find the ETA PRIME Video using the UDOO Advance Board (Intel Celeron N3160)

So I just finished adding my MAME Library and wanted to started adding separate emulators and Platforms for Naomi, Model 3, ect... Watching the tutorials on YouTube, it seemed to be this very extended action of using a script to having the ROMs in a different location and importing each system in separately. Once I did the full import of my MAME library I noticed it created all these wonderful playlist of the platforms I wanted to create and EVEN added them to the Platforms area. I then simply went to "Tools" and added the emulator for the given platform. After I went to the playlist(platform) selected all the game for that platform and chose the Bulk Edit option, simply changing the Emulator from MAME to the given platform. This was so much easier then using one of the scripts that copies ROMs out of the main MAME folder, and keeps the size down as I did not duplicate anything. Is this something others have figured out and I'm just late to the game? Because based on the "Arcade" YouTube tutorials I went threw first (for NAOMI), this seems to be a much easier way of doing Arcade Platforms that exist in the main MAME Set. I hope this helps others out there to speed up there import.

So I've just started my way into Launch Box and can't get enough of it so far... I'm currently just getting myself together, but can't wait to begin creating my own custom theme... ...Till then though, I wanted to donate to the community the 3D logo set I build, designed and rendered myself. Once you look at it you'll realize it's tailored to the GameEX front-end, but there are plenty of logos that can be transferred over to LaunchBox and once I get situated with LB I will begin updating the set to better suite this community. As long as you give credit when credit's due, I give this community permission to use these images for there themes. Feel free to ask any questions or request missing logos. Take Care! ...and this is by choosing "import" not "Download Metadata and Media", correct?
-
Okay, that's what I did earlier. though I couldn't confirm it "skipped" over the roms that were already imported.
-
What’s the best way to resume a rom import that needed to be canceled mid-stream? I’ve been transferring my external drive from work and Home so I can continue to do all the initial imports, but looking at the MAME Import, I don’t believe it will be complete by the time I leave from work and would like to continue once I get home. There’s also many other reason you would need to restart an import...
-
that or a collection of empty zip files with the correct names and change the location after with the new update... I know with GameEX front-end there was a dat file you could connect with the import and it said if you're look for a specific system, heres the list of file names, only check to see if they exist, if they do, then import ignore every other file in the folder.

I found it under the Platforms folder. This did fix having duplicate Naomi Roms in my MAME folder and using the Demul script to make copies of the Naomi ROMs to import. Once I did the import, i changed the rom location back to the original mame rom folder and deleted the copies that the Demul script created and everything is working great. It's one heck or a round-about to get there but it works if you're sort on HD space

After I imported a set of roms, I wanted to move those roms location. When I went to "Edit Platform" and chose my platform I want to change the location of. I went to "folders" and under the media type "Game" I changed the Folder Path to the new location. This however did not globally change the rom parent folder of the roms already imported. Is this a bug, or is there another way to go about this? ...or do I need to reimport? Thanks for the help, love'n this software so far.

MAME to Demul Rom Copier (MAME .184 & demul07a_180816)
natemac00 commented on SentaiBrad's file in Third-party Apps and Plugins
New here, just curious, once I use this script to to copy out all the needed roms and all the data and assets are scraped, can I then change the location of the ROM folder to the original folder and delete the duplicates? Since it already knows what file names to look for? I'm coming from GameEX front-end and there was a database file that pretty much said, here is the list of Naomi files, look in this giant ROM folder and check to see if they're there. -
Thanks for the reply, it's probably only an issue the first time Is the a tutorial for what to backup if I wanted to do a clean install of the software, so that I wouldn't need to re-download all the Image and video assets on a fresh install?
