Adult filter? Parental stuff?

Hi, Is there a way, or if not is it on your schedule to implement a parent/kid mode? In my library of games there are some violent games that I might not let kids see when letting them browse the games. Would be cool if you could tag games either based on rating or as Adult then have them be hidden if you launch it, then have them appear with a password.

any progress 4 years later?

It's something that gets added to the polls but never gets many votes for. I know Jason wants to do it and I think it should be added as well even though I have no use for it personally. Jason may just do it at some point but it's not something that is being prioritized at the moment at all.

Takes little time to create a child playlist..I have multiple..It's up to me what i want them to play.

This subject has always made  me scratch my head...You want a FE to do parenting skills?

you mean that would be a bad thing?

no really, take this example: I have in my Collection an Adult platform where i keep some interesting dirty pron stuff from mame (strictly only for histroric preservation reasons! never would even look into such)

- now when there are Kids i do not want them to be able to access those games

- when i have guets over i do not want them to appear during attract mode

- i would like a switch to hide "hidden" games completely out of Launchbox/Big Box

if there is no such feature and probably not wanted by the community, do you have any idea for a Workaround? in other frontends i would just rename the roms Folder to something not recognized by the FE and i am done… that would also be fine

i basically fully agree to the first post also.

Like I said, Jason wants to include this for his own reasons and will probably do it at some point despite the polls never showing much interest in the feature.

The best work around right now is to just make a 2nd install of LB for kids and guests who you don't want to have access to your naughty games. The simplest way to do this is to make a copy of your LB setup, assuming your games and emulators are stored outside of your LB install folder and go through and remove the games. Another possible temporary solutions is to go through and mark the adult games as broken and hide broken games.

I know neither of these solutions are as good as a proper adult filter mode but I do believe Jason will implement it sooner rather than much later.

If it’s not done before the next poll, I’ll try and remember to suggest adding it as “Party Mode”

give you the ability to hide/create playlists/platforms/games for those type of situations when your not in control.

It may gain more votes with Party in the title ? def a worthy addition imo

I like that idea! This might be a feasible concept. Do you know if hiding also acts on the bigbox attract mode?

Great idea, party mode is too appealing, this could work ?

Both LaunchBox and Big Box have separate settings to show or hide "hidden" and/or "broken" games. So you can hide both categories independently throughout all of LaunchBox and/or Big Box. You can't hide things *just* from attract mode though, currently.

Can you hide platforms so they only show up when unlocked?

Hmm this might be an ok workaround for me. If you hide all games of a platform, the whole platform is hidden... i only tested this in launchbox

Thank you, I’ll try that. Sharp X68000 seems to be a cesspool of porn games.

Everyone i bet there kids have access to tablets/ their own cell phone/PC  etc..And i see a post that Sharp X68000 is a cesspool of porn games..Your the one that downloaded them..If i cant trust my kids when im not around for video games  then I have a bigger problem than games .

It is a discussion because it is something that people are looking for feature wise. No different than someone wanting any one of the numerous features that have and will be requested. Arguing against it is likely moot anyways as Jason has said it is something he wants as well.

So fair warning lets keep it civil.

I don't see anything wrong with having a lock out mode that hides adult games. That way people can have their full library of games and have the adult ones hidden when they want them hidden while being able to show them when needed as well.

I personally have no need for this feature myself but I do believe it should be added. There has been plenty of requests for it, it just never does well on the polls.
