angelobodetti
Do any of you use MAME for CPS3 emulation? Is it better than the standalone CPS3 emulator? Also, is it a different romset for MAME than for CPS3? Edited June 11, 2017 by angelobodetti
bundangdon
There's a standalone cps3 emulator? I believe that if you have a pretty decent system (fast cpu) then MAME would be the best choice. However, FBA and WinKawaks will also work, especially for the older, slower systems

Do you have the launchboch XML for CPS3? i current have it standalone and would like to test the playlist before deleting my current cps3 setup
bundangdon
Not at the moment, sorry. I haven't set up CPS3 on launchbox yet. However, you can probably set it up (relatively) easily with the automatic playlist feature, after you have imported your mame roms
DOS76
I use the stand alone cps3 emulator it doesn't have any of the long load time that MAME has for those games. I have my own roms for this but testing by setting up sfiii2.zip from my MAME set as an additional app worked with launching the game from the CPS3 emulator. DOS76
I messed with this a little in MAME and 5 out of the 6 games have a no disc variant that load much faster if you don't mind using Asian and Japanese versions. Here is a list of the ROM names. sfiiin.zip sfiii2n.zip sfiii3n.zip jojon.zip jojoban.zip 1
angelobodetti
awesome, doesn't look like launchbox loaded those - so if i just load those zips, then i should be good to go and can delete my cps3 specific roms?
DOS76
I just went to the ones LB had imported for my MAME set and edited the rom path by adding the n to what was already there.
Charco
I use the RetroArch FBA core for CPS3, no particular reason, but I like the ease of use for shaders and control mapping. MAME is perfect for CPS3 too.

DOS76
Nice didn't realize I could fastforward
syntax_X
I noticed if you change those file names that the Mame playlist creator will not scrape them into CPS3. Must go off file names not game name. Or maybe because they are looked at as clones. Edited June 11, 2017 by syntax_X
Lordmonkus
I just use the FBA core in Retroarch but I also have a separated CPS3 rom set I pulled out of an FBA rom set from a while ago.

Lordmonkus
Mame works just fine, it was just something I did a while back when first setting up Launchbox. I had an FBA romset and pulled out the separated CPS rom sets and set them to use FBA. No special reason beyond that.
